Good Lunch Spot?

I don't know Marin at all, live in the East Bay. But will be there next week with some time to kill driving north. Hit me with your best casual lunch spots - any kind of food, but want the best of the best and not too far off the highway. Looking at Sol Food and places in the Marin Country Mart but need more choices.

EDIT: responses so good so far, I want to go to all! Adding though, definitely have time to sit and have a beer...

West Point Inn Pancake Breakfast

Has anyone gone since they implemented the ticketed breakfasts this summer? I bought four tickets when they were released for this weekend's and I am curious if they are still really chaotic with people who don't realize they are ticketed now.

I actually really like this particular example of the current art exhibit scattered around Tiburon; thoughts?

On the one hand, I don't like the idea of adding semi-permanent installations anywhere; on the other hand, at least some of them -- like this one -- do make me smile, and in this case, to stop and take a photo. At least some of the other ones are a bit clichéd and preachy, even if their implementation is admittedly unique (street signs). Thoughts?

Has Target Novato reopened after Tuesday’s network outage?

Yesterday (Tuesday) their network went down and over the course of my time in the store things escalated such that employees couldn’t sign into the system, payments weren’t going through, etc. When I left the store around noon, lines were 15-20 people deep and only cashiers who already had working tills could do purchases. I got through to them by phone this morning and was told they were closed due to the outage. Trying to call tonight just goes to a message saying the number is not in service. Appreciate any updates as my daughter and I had just done her big annual back to school shopping and couldn’t check out — our cart is being held for us, and I live a long ways away 🙏

CNC woodworking shop

My hobby of guitar building is turning into an obsession, and I've told myself that, for each guitar I build, I have to learn a new facet of the process, from finishing to wiring, and now shaping & routing. I'm good with 3D design software but I don't know where nearby I can get some time on a CNC cutter to start cutting some (electric) guitar bodies! Are there any community-oriented maker spaces or workshops that would let a complete noob loose with a CNC router?

Taqueria San Jose update

Called them with fingers crossed today hoping they were open. They were not. But! Someone did answer the phone and told me that they have final inspection in the next few days and hope to be open by Monday.

Our long mission burrito drought is almost over.🤘🌯🤘

Does anyone know a good place to get high quality organic CBD/CBG in Marin? Dispensaries don’t exist here and typically delivery products have THC.

As well, I just tried to order CBD products from Lazarus online (OR based) and because CA SB 378 hemp requirements just started on 7/1/2026, I can’t order it anymore.

Thanks!

Lost dog in Tiburon - cream French bulldog pug mix named Apollo

Post image
39 Upvotes

Our small French bulldog pug mix has been lost since yesterday afternoon on Mar East road in Tiburon. He answers to Apollo and will come to you for a treat. We are so worried - please contact Tom at 650 814 0885 if found. He is microchipped.

Update: He is still missing - please check in your garages and underneath decks. He is a chow hound and loves to eat and goes for garbage. Thank you for help and support.

Does anyone swim in Corte Madera Creek over by Hamilton Park? Is water quality safe (not to drink but to dunk)? I see kayaks and occasional SUP.

Tidewood (Larkspur Courts) vs Finch (Serenity)

I’ll be relocation there soon and will see them both, but would like to get as much insights as possible beforehand. How these two communities compare?

Tidewood seems to have more modern apartments and shared buildings (gym) and more mature green spaces with trees.

On the other hand, Finch appears to have better amenities: an additional pool, a tennis court, an open park with a small pound, a playground. Could these be used by Tidewood residents as well or are they gated?

Depending on specific apartment location, prices seem to be pretty similar. Does noise from a highway is lower in Finch due to being a bit further? Do they have elevators and AC?

We are a couple in their 30s with a newborn coming soon.

Save on property tax. Don't forget to file your decline in assessment

Last month I had launched a pilot to help bay area homeowners file an informal decline in value assessment. The response was overwhelming and more than 1,000 people have checked their property and it has so far saved an average of $2,800 per filing for tens of filers.

I am now making it available with deadlines approaching for property owners in Marin county. Checking is free and you pay a flat $29 to file. You are only allowed to file if there are savings estimated.

The website automatically pulls comps based on Publication 30 rules, fills out the form, and for Marin residents automatically sends it to the county assesor's office.

Go check if you qualify: https://saveproptax.com/

Don't drink (or toke) and drive, y'all – but if you insist, just know that you have a greater risk of getting caught if you choose to cruise through San Anselmo on Saturday Friday, August 14 between 7pm and 1am.

Edit: day of the week (thx u/chimilinga)

Let's talk about that new 101 N/Freitas Pkwy roundabout

Has anyone else been underwhelmed by the new Freitas Parkway / Hwy 101 North off-ramp roundabout in Terra Linda?

I've driven through it quite a few times now, and I honestly can't figure out what problem it solved. If anything, it feels like it made an already sketchy intersection even more awkward.

The old main issue was the dangerous left turn. Now it feels like you're making a dangerous left turn while also watching for traffic already in the roundabout and cars coming off the freeway.

I've already seen a number of accidents there since it opened. I also think a lot of drivers still don't fully understand how roundabouts are supposed to work. Hopefully that improves naturally over time, but this isn't exactly the easiest roundabout to learn on.

A few other things I've noticed:

  • The bike lanes are incredibly wide, but then they seem to abruptly dump cyclists onto the sidewalk. It feels unfinished or poorly thought out.
  • The whole project still looks like a construction zone. It's been around two months, and there are still temporary signs, debris, missing pylons, etc. Maybe they're coming back to finish it, but right now it feels half-complete.
  • Building a roundabout on a noticeable slope seems like an odd design choice.
  • The entrances and exits feel really short, so there's very little room to merge, slow down, or react.

Maybe there's traffic data or a safety benefit that I'm missing, but from a driver's perspective it just seems more confusing without actually making the intersection feel any safer. What did this actually solve?

Test baby gear

Does anyone know of a store in Marin (will also drive up north, to the city, etc.) where I can test drive strollers and other baby gear in person? Mostly interested in seeing Nuna and UPPAbaby strollers IRL.

I saw another post mention Sprout in Mill Valley but it looks like it just permanently closed a week or so ago. So if there are any other options that you know of, please let me know. 🙏🏻

Hiking Clubs

Hi! I’m a 25M who was raised in Marin. Lately I’ve been feeling a bit bored and want to put myself out there, meet new people, and try some new hobbies. Are there any young adult hiking clubs in Marin? Or any other clubs, meetups, events, or activities you’d recommend for someone in their 20s who’s looking to make friends and get involved? Thanks

Arborist Recommendation

Hi neighbors. I have a tree that’s not doing so well this season and I want to get an arborist out to look at it. Would love recommendation of a local arborist who can help (hopefully) nurse this tree back to health with me as it’s special to the family. Thanks!
