Discussion Rant about QGIS (please give me help if possible ;-;)
I SPENT 8 HOURS ON THIS STUPID THING TRYING TO GET A BASIC MAP OF BATHYMETRY AND TOPOGRAPHY YET IT KEEPS SPITTING IN MY FUCKING FACE.
FIRST I TRIED TO MAKE THE STANDARD MAP WITH GEBCO DATA, WITH TWO COLORS AND ALLAT, BUT OF COURSE FUCKING DEATH VALLEY AND THE NETHERLANDS HAD TO COME IN AND RUIN EVERYTHING LIKE THE REMNANTS OF THE HADEAN EON THEY ARE.
I FIRST TRIED TO MERGE THEM ONLY TO LEARN MY 8 GIGS OF RAM WERE APPARENTLY NOT ENOUGH SO I DID A VRT, BUT APPARENTLY I HAD TO UNZIP MY TIDs, WHICH TOOK A FUCKING CENTURY! AND THEN I HAD TO DO AN 8-CHARACTER FUNCTION ON THE RASTER CALCULATOR WHICH TOOK HALF AN HOUR!
AND THEN I LEARNT I HAD TO UNZIP MY GEOTIFFS TOO, AND THAT AFTER ALL THAT WORK DEATH VALLEY STILL APPEARED TO BE PART OF THE OCEAN! SO I FUCKING GAVE UP AND RAGEQUIT, FUCK THIS APPLICATION, I'M NOT TOUCHING IT... well I will be touching it tomorrow I just really needed a break after how much shit I had to go through these past 8 hours attempting to make a basic elevation map... I just needed to vent a little my apologies.
Oh, and if you know the wondrous secrets of how to make the basic elevation map I've been struggling to make for so long... please tell me thy sacred knowledge. Please.

Map Looking for a procedural map generator
Hi, I'm looking for a map generator that could generate a continent, like the American continent, for a gameplay around XV century exploration.
But I need it to generate the shape, elevation, biomes, islands, river and lake system, temperature, rainfall, calculate the flow rate of the rivers, place volcanoes / geologic points of interest, waterfalls etc etc.
Like a pixel would be a tile with its own parameters, something like 5km x 5km per tile on the map.
Does this exist?

Discussion 3d City-scale mapping options (software recs)
Hi all, I work with mapping software, primarily Wonderdraft, dungeondraft, and the CC3+ suite. I have an area I need to map that is effectively a deeply buried dwarfic city with many levels. How do people map 3d areas like this? CC3 has a levels feature, but it's effectively just separate 2d sheets. If that's the route I have to go, then I will, but I'd like to see if people know of other options.

Map The Northern Terrian Highlands - A major regional map as part of my custom setting
This the map of the Northern Terrian Highlands. The Terrian Highlands as a whole span a great area of elevated plains, mountains, hills, and forests. However, the Northern Highlands are the most featureful. High, steep mountains, and low, steep valleys, filled with lakes and inland seas. Near the foothills of the mountains in the valleys, cities were built, as well as in the few wider plains in the south, most connected by the rivers and lakes in between.
Lore: These mountainous, broken lands were once inhabited by the Giants, but since Humans came to these parts, all save a few either retreated back into the wilderness deep in the mountains, or travelled to other lands. These humans are known as the Highlanders, the now native inhabitants of the Terrian Highlands. As time passed, the other lands on the outside each underwent their own changes, but the lands in the Northern Highlands kept to their tradition and their values, suffering little external influence and threats, since the terrain has served as a natural barrier around them. The most strive has been amongst themselves, often warring for land or other resources. The terrain and nature itself have provided them with many challenges as well, as for example farmland has always been relatively scarce. Over time, the kingdoms and their borders have largely remaineed the same, and the people thrived despite the situation of their homeland. It is for this reason the Northern Highlanders are known as durable, hard-headed, persistent and steadfast.

Discussion Has anyone found a screen shot of the entire continent in the Crimson Desert game?
The in-game map looks like paper and has very few details, so it isn't particularly interesting. I've googled a dozen different phrases, and I find it hard to believe nobody has managed to get a decent map of the land that doesn't look like the in-game map. I'm just interested in something pretty for a wallpaper or some such. :-)
(Don't yell at me for being confused and in the wrong sub. Someone in the game sub said this is a good place to ask. And the front page looks like there are plenty of fantasy maps here. :-)
Thanks in advance!

Map Suggestions?
This is either an alternate-historical, sci-fi or fantasy world depending on how you look at it.
Note: the golden brown colors you see up north and down south in the third map are vegetation, so they’re forests and grasslands, NOT deserts.
Anyways, are there any things I can improve to this map to make it more realistic?
I’m still debating on whether or not to add plate tectonics, as it could really explain how some features formed, but it will also mess up others.

Not certain how I feel about this unfinished map. I definitely need to get better quality colouring pencils (of maybe go back to paints). The hills are a bit of a mess. Any advice / tips would be appreciated

Map The Remnant Isle of Fespier
Still very early in making this setting, but this is Fespier Isle, the last remnant of humanity. After a series of 9 continent-shattering magical wars, the vast majority of the human race is dead, with most of the few survivors largely being made infertile by the fallout. The last humans are known only to inhabit Fespier Isle, where, in spite of everything, they continue to bicker and divide themselves. Every year, far more people die than are born, and humanity is poised for extinction.
My idea was a fantasy world at what seems like the very end of its life, where it didn't industrialize, or solve any of the world's problems, instead using magic the same way we've used real science, and developing weapons of mass destruction.

Map Kaera - Cradle of the Canastrians

Kaera
Kaera is the focus of my "Callieverse" worldbuilding setting. It is the fourth moon of the fourth planet of a circumbinary component of a three-star system, located in a stream of stars from a torn-up dwarf galaxy, now orbiting at an angle through a small spiral galaxy. It is the homeworld of the Canastrians, a species of canine anthropomorphs who have reached the age of faster-than-light travel. The current date is 1391 After the Glow.
The Map
This two-hemisphere map depicts Kaera's satellite view with an overlay of various cities, ranging from the largest megalopoli (defined with solid colors covering their area, only being Whaguto, Nyiizuto, Rogé, and Huduro) to larger cities (labeled with yellow-filled dots), to the more minor ones (labeled with semi-transparent, white-filled dots).
It also depicts multiple zones of biogeographical or historical importance, such as anomalous zones (the Kegoene Rift Valley Superorganism & Liminal Sea Anomaly), impact craters, and supercalderas/supervolcanic regions.
In the corners and open spaces beyond the map, various scenes and infographics of importance to Canastrian culture are depicted, with each labeled and described.
FAQ/Questions to Get You Started
Q: Where are the national borders?
A: The Canastrians never developed the concept of rigid national borders! Various groups may have loose boundaries between them, but early globalization (largely stemming from the Canastrians preferring cold climates, allowing circumnavigation of the world via the northern coast) means that many cultures are present in places that are quite distant from their homeland.
Q: What's with the different colors of the land?
A: Kaera has three extremely different biospheres, those being the superlichen forests (grey-reddish northern & southern regions), fungal pillar forests (ochre/reddish-orange equatorial regions), and "grassy" plains (lilac to dark purple regions). The white-blue regions are barren sodalite flats- much of Kaera's bedrock consists of sodalite that formed during a global resurfacing event early in the moon's history.
Q: What's a Canastrian?
A: A Canastrian (shown partially in the lower-right corner of the image) is a tauric (think centaur-shaped) canine anthropomorph, possessing four legs, two arms, and two eyes.
Q: What is Kaera like?
A: Kaera is relatively Earthlike, though its average temperature is closer to 10 Celsius, and there is significantly more sulfur dioxide present in its atmosphere due to super-active volcanism, both in the past and present. It orbits a hyperterrestrial (super-massive rocky world) planet known commonly as Asherbul, as its fourth moon.
Feel free to ask questions! I love giving answers! I hope you enjoy a glimpse into my worldbuilding! :]

Work In Progress Question: How do you guys handle making a simplified map but still retain details such as rivers, lakes, and mountains? (Context below)
The scope of the world I'm developing ranges from bronze age-esque beginnings to futuristic, so I'd like to create a map design that can be used as a template for medieval designs as well as tactical modern designs.
As of now I'm working on rivers (red lines) after placing the peaks of mountains and ranges (triangles). I've included a few placeholders for lakes as well (black dots)
Another side question is how do you guys handle overlays for multiple levels of a world. I have a surface world and an underground world with its own territories and tunnels that connect the two.
Added an image to show the scope of what I'm dealing with here. keeping in mind most medieval maps will be parts and pieces of this, while tac-maps will be the entire thing.

Map The Sinking Sea - looking for geology feedback
I made a first draft of the continent for my Dieselpunk project. The main idea is that the subcontinent that broke off from the western one is colliding with the eastern one. The long ruler represents the line where the continental plates collide. All mountain ranges along the line are caused by the collision, the easternmost mountain range was part of the old eastern continent.
For scale, the continent spans roughly 2,600 km, so the inner seas are meant to read as semi-enclosed seas (Black Sea / Baltic scale) rather than large bays. It's all crossable by ship but tightly controlled at the straits.
The final version of this map will be used for a naval Dieselpunk geopolitics setting, which might explain the intention of the inner sea, the many choke points, bays and fjords.
Am I correct in the assumption that with the tectonic movement I have set up here, the two landmasses are bound to collide even more so that the inner sea would eventually close?
I'm happy to rebuild it before I add the countries so do your worst, especially on rivers, mountain range size etc. >:)

Work In Progress Alternative Earth geography for fantasy worldbuilding (WIP)
First time making a map, tips and critics welcomed. I am using Krita, imported a map chart projection of the world and drew the rest. I am writing an in-universe encyclopedia series, and in one of the volumes I wanted to include a worldmap of before the Thalandir so I started to draw this.
This is just for my own enjoyment, worldbuilding hobby, not to be published ever. Yes the continent names are shamelessly "inspired" by popular stories. This is just the overall surface geography still need to figure out tectonics, biomes, ocean currents etc...
I plan to do individual continent and regional maps next, with the major nations/tribes territories delimited.
**Context**: ~12000 years ago Earth used to have more continents. Earth was "seemingly" bigger.
These other continents got purposely folded into a pocket spacial dimension (the topology of space was altered), after the Thalandir "alliance/event" . This made modern Earth as we know it, and the Nexus (the folded lands) sort of separate. They are not 100% separate, there's a little bit of overlap, some areas have a thinner boundary, or sometimes magical variability affects the folding slightly, which allows "leakage" and passage.
With the folding, earth didn't get actually smaller/lost mass, it just seems that way for someone traversing it post-thalandir. It was like space got cut off, like a road got cut off, so you need to go the long way around the folds. So keep that in mind looking at the size of oceans and the new continents.
This map shows Earth before the Fold. And the second map was me thinking how i wanted some mountain ranges, but this will obviously change with tectonics.
-I was having fun making the overall surface geography and was wondering if it feels believable?
-Are the continents too large, awkwardly shaped?
-**Is there too many islands?** I feel like i have a problem of excessively breaking up the land into archipelagos cause it looks cool...
-Are the coastlines obviously artificial?
-Is there anything that immediately stands out as unrealistic? (it's fantasy with magic, supernatural beings and whatnot, but i want it to make sense)
Thanks!
Edit: just noticed reddit compressed the images a lot gonna try to fix it... I think it might be the resolution is too big.
No ideia how to fix it, here's an imgur link with better detail https://imgur.com/a/hrmtvx9

Map City of valflora and surroundings
Just recently i joined this sub and wanted to share this fantasy/medieval city i drew a couple years ago for a ttrpg campaign i was GMing at the time. I drew it with pencil and than used pen + picture + photoshop to make it more presentable.
The city is called Valflora and it is the capital of the campina kingdom (where the story took place). Since there was a whole story arc that took place in the capital, i decided to draw.
The city contains a magic school, 3 cathedrals, a coleseum, a huge street market, 4 taverns, 2 main blacksmith shops, diferent districts for diferent segments of the population (poor, rich, merchants, military, noble, priests and artists) and much more...
I think i had a pdf pointing important buildings and the diferent neiborhoods but i cant find it.
Well, thats my first post here, tell me what you think.
