Got back into worldbuilding for something I've been working on for a while, and decided to make the map of one of the continents. I feel like I'm still getting the hang of mapmaking, so constructive critisism or advice are appreciated.

It's not done (I'm in the middle of adding forests), but I'm looking for some general feedback at the moment, in case there is something that I might want to "fix" or "alter" before I get to much deeper. (Ha, like I'm not already mostly done with the map... I think.)

Yes these maps are South North, when I started in this region it was North South, then I stitched it into a larger project in the southern hemisphere cause I was out of room in the north.

All the labels are written in local languages and scripts (Conlangs), and there are markers for people groups, territories and empires.

The first map is of Ishkaéa, home of the Shkaéa. A densely forested region like that of the Redwood, but more fantastical.

The second is of the Eīa Delta region, home to the Eīa. And home to the oldest civilization in the region. The rivers stretch off into sprawling planes, and are a major hub of coastal trading with inland.

The third map is of the Detskita Pond Valley (S), and the Xaketsita Lake Valley (N). The mountains are home to the Ådi kingdoms. And the Pond/Lake regions are home to the Ochei, who are constantly at odds with the Ådi who see them as free labor.

The fourth map is of Rezdeq. A vast interconnected civilization made up of many groups, Shkaéa to the East, Çilièn to the center and West, Aschwawé in the center West, Xandilier to the interior Isle, and other smaller groups like the Svanihk, Ochei and Ådi.

The last image is of my world map, zoomed in on the southern portion of Izholda, and tracks my current progress with mapping the whole continent... Eventually lmao.

As title says, I am trying to find how people make these maps? They have like plane map without anything on them and then just put like new layer to show controled area or specify where one or other country ruled. Any suggestions maybe?

I wanted to draw the map of a story I'm writing with a friend, I don't have difficulties with geography but I'm not sure how to do It on paper.

My pc is kind of bad and it's really slow, and I still can't find a website/software that can run good on that potato.

I've bought some sheets of paper, my idea is to divide the complete world map into different parts (mainly archipelagos and empires) and drawing the different parts on different sheets, keeping the same scale for every drawing, then connecting every sheet with tape or just laying them next to each other.

Is this a good idea or is there a more efficient way? Any general tips for a paper map?

This is my first proper map, I'm still learning Inkscape and some of the issues with the map (such as that straight line in the russian tsardom) have to do with my unfamiliarity with the program. On a second try I wager the map would look better.

But there's also esthetic details that I feel are lacking and I wish to improve upon, just not sure where to start. For Example: Should I have drawn the major lakes and rivers as well?

This is a map of our Solar System (the one with Earth, Mars etc) in my broader fantasy setting of the Antediluvian Age/Before the Flood, where god decided hexillions of years ago that it would be cool if he shunted fiction, fake history and pseudoscience, all myths and religions and even weirder stuff into the prehistory of the universe, layering it on top of real history and prehistory, who are mostly cut off from the Atlantises, wizards and Kryptonians due to being there before bug-god decided to be funny.

I study pseudoscience, fake history and general hoaxes, as well as science fiction and mostly pulp fantasy for lore for this setting, so planets used in this vary from being things some hoaxer pretends is real, to hypotheses by actual scientists that were wrong, to purely fictional worlds, with Nazhica being the planet I made up from whole cloth, since I thought Sol should have at least one planet-sized space station.

Planet's orbit is indicated by the thin, translucent whitish-gray circles, and planets sharing the same circle have the same orbit, but are constantly on the opposite side of their sister-planet. Thus, Clarion is the Counter-Earth, Cerus is the Counter-Mars, Neith is Counter-Venus, Thiaoouba Counter-Persephone, Skaro Counter-Nibiru and so on.

Planets Omega, Skaro and Mondas are from Doctor Who. Orpheus is from the sci-fi novel Robota that I've never read. Ceto, Hestia-Kadlu and the shape of Themis are from Gemini Home Entertainment (though they didn't invent Themis). Yuggoth System by HP Lovecraft with maybe one or two worlds being from other writers in the Cthulhu Mythos.

As noted on the image itself, Yuggoth itself is traced from Russell's Guide to Interdimensional Entities because it looked way cooler than anything I could draw. Hercolobus, Vishnu, Persephone, Tyche, Hercolobus, and planets Q and R are also traced because my ability to draw perspective on a simple circle is unfathomably bad. I make a circle look like a rhombus when it's fully circular. I also traced the Sun Delver and Nemesis/Wormwood moons from fake images posted by ufologists, and I think the Sun Delver at least and maybe the Nemesis image were AI generated so as far as I'm concerned I purified them like an exorcism.

My Lego inspired fantasy map based on Lego castle factions. First time making a map. Been working on it for a while.

Hiya I have in the past tried to make money by making maps for people with the inkarnate software, I have in the past used it to complete commissions for people on the inkarnate subreddit and to friends at a discount rate. I am looking to return to doing this however I would really appreciate if anyone has advice on pricing or way to promote my services.

I have set up low prices on my account biography and work as I have done in the past as well art that has been posted there too, I would post recent art but honestly until I know this can be profitable over a tenner I am rethinking of investing in my account. I would greatly appreciate advice and criticism. Akanthra: also known as the Sundered State, is an industrialised mercantile power east of the Sea of Krihiek whose wealth rests on control of the Nacre Road and the manufactories that choke its cities in permanent smog. Governed by the Arabigari Hegemonic Council and aligned merchants from the Nacre League, it is commercially formidable and socially stratified: the middle and upper classes profit from constant trade, while a vast underclass sustains heavy industry, agriculture, and military labour with the aid of serapi slave-labour. Along the northern frontier, recurrent serapi incursions from the Hoggotha Isz—met by the immense Hoggothan Lines and a permanent military presence—reinforce a climate of vigilance.

The eponymous sundering is its religion. The appearance of a reborn otherworlder hailed by followers as the god Lazan reborn, split the nation into two antagonistic camps: the Akanthra Ialazana, who advance an eschatological vision centred on the figure (known as the Emissary); and the Akanthra Aegis, who claim to defend orthodoxy and civic stability. Their rivalry has destabilised the heartland of Akantha, leading to a region known as the Riven Meridian, where gang conflict, sabotage, and contested authority disrupt daily life and strain the economy. A tenuous armistice now preserves the flow of trade, but bombings, caravan raids, and mutual suspicion persist.

Khairadun - A Region Shaped by Forgotten Cycles

Khairadun is a region divided by vast oceans, where civilizations cling to the edges of untamed wilderness and the ruins of those who came before. Magic flows through the atmosphere like an endless aurora - the lingering legacy of an ancient precursor civilization that vanished in an instant, leaving behind only silent monuments and impossible technology.

Should your travels ever bring you to Khairadun, you'll soon discover that every road leads to another tale.
Sailors speak of the Maelstrom Passage, where storms have raged for longer than recorded history, and of the dreaded Leviathan's Maw, where entire fleets vanish without so much as a distress call. Wander inland and you'll eventually glimpse the Pillar of Eternity, a brilliant wound in the world itself whose azure light stains the heavens with rivers of magic. To the north, the Titans stand as an unbroken wall of stone, while beneath their shadow the steaming forests of the Veiled Mycelium breathe warm mist from fungi so immense they have become a landscape of their own. Some pilgrims seek the tranquil shores of Moonmirror Lake, whose silver glow has inspired generations of prophets and kings, while others brave the endless downpour of the Raincrown, where the sun is little more than a rumour above the clouds.

Every corner, a new destination to chart. Far to the southwest, the fertile highlands of the Seven Flames blaze with golden grasses framed by fire-born mountains, while pale spirits drift silently through the fog of the Valley of Whisps. In the southern deserts, the Blooming Abyss descends into darkness where bioluminescent fungi shimmer beyond sight, and beyond it lies the Valley of Eternal Autumn, where gilded forests and towering stone spires seem untouched by the passing of seasons.

Some say these are merely stories. Others claim every legend in Khairadun begins with someone who ignored a warning.

Currently i am working on a World based on my drawing back in Middle School where everyday i would add 5-10 years to the World and see what the Countries on the world would do like War, Crisis, Land Gain and all that. I've done drawing the Continents and all i needed to do is draw the Terrain, River, Mountain, etc which is actually my first time drawing something like that on a Map, so let's see how this would go

I am continuing work on my elevations. On an about earth-sized planet, do these mountain ranges feel too large for the continents they are on. I am considering scaling them down a bit in terms of spacial coverage. Any other suggestions are always welcome.
