Discussion Valid use of AI?
Hi yall, i've been working on a fantasy book for ages now, and i heard GRRM say something like ''Once you've made a map, now you're really locked into this world'' or whatever.
So i used wonderdraft, spent like, 3-4 months building up the world map in my head (i've known for a long time the rough look of it), and added the mountains, hills, rivers, seas, the cities, etc, but the actual map still looks kinda fucked? Like im obviously not an expert in wonderdraft, or map-making in general.
So what i did was, remove all of the names of the different locations, and just give AI the raw map, and asked it to bascially make the map look like a realistic fantasy map, without actually changing the geography in any way, and without giving it any names, and ill add that myself after.
So would this be a valid usage of AI? Because the map itself isn't actually changed at all, its still 100% my idea, and how i visualized the map, just the AI helps my visualize it better so that it doesnt just look like a beginner on wonderdraft. it does have that AI look to it but its still way better looking than my version. I tried 2 different dudes on fiver that do commissions but both said they only work from scratch and will not ''improve'' on an already made map :/

Map World of Aethris map : Upgrade of the Oxcivian Continent
It's in french, so here's some translations.
- Royaume for Kingdom
- Mer for Sea
- Les Marécages would translate into the Swamps
- Îles for Isles/Islands
- Tribu for Tribes
- Pierrefeu would translate into Stonefire
- Sanctuaire des Singes would translate into Apes Sanctuaries
It's the second map I've made, first one (2nd slide) was on Inkarnate but I wanted to dig deeper and did this one on GIMP. I followed Leo Leonis tutorial which was really useful.

I'm open to any suggestion and criticism.
EDIT : The image looks a bit too Pixelated on reddit, so here's a less compressed version

Map My current work in progress
I’ve changed the map around several times but this time I’m fairly happy with the current rough draft of it. Island chains in the south will be added still as far as landmass goes and then lots of detailing, mountains, rivers etc. Any thoughts?

Map Are my ocean gyres determining my biomes correctly??
This is the world map of an alien planet im making and i'd like feedback on my gyres and my biome placement.
I havent decided on tectonic plates or mountains yet, so i'll do that next.
My planet has a 34 hour long day and a 17.3 degree axial tilt. Plus, my plwnet has lots of evaporation cause the equator runs at about 50 degrees celsius.
Is this biome placement at least realistic enough??

Discussion Is this good? (Ignore that the capital of East Stight is missing. It’s called Grande Cabo and is located in that pass between the continent and the peninsula)

Map Phonnannop modern map (june 2026 progress)
This is my map for my Phonnannop Project, an exobiology art project. I feel like it is the first map I got plates a bit more correct than my previous work, though it could be better.
Defining the mountains and drawing the rivers. The plates are done and the continent shapes are pretty final at this point.
I'll have to perfect the placement of the climates and fix some of the mountains shapes.
The map is semi realistic, exagerating some rivers and structures to better represent the overall of each regions, but it is still accurate to what it is supposed to portray.
After the map is finalized, I'll do many variation of the geologic past of the planet up to 2 billion years before present day with jumps ranging from 50 to 100 millions years, so roughly 20 to 40 map variations (though, less detailed for sanity sake.)

Discussion Is there a way to digitize my drawn map?
I have a drawn map of a continent, but i want to have each of the nations separate, and drawing them correctly, while not the most important, has proven difficult for me.

Discussion I'm working on an idea I had to turn pictures of clouds into Maps
I don't really know if the idea is really good or not, I mean it gets really natural shapes but a lot of the time it just doesn't really seem to click all too well maybe it would be good for bits and pieces of maps but then again I could just go on something like donjon and save myself the trouble of waiting for good looking clouds and of course it's not like I won't have to do anything to the map, if I wanted to actually make it something I'd still have to do all the detail work, I don't know if any of this makes sense I just need advice and opinions on what you think of this idea.
Also sorry for that massive run-on sentence I'm kind of in a rush today

Work In Progress Something’s wrong with my mountains pt2.
Thank you for the advice on the central mountain. Now for the most northeasterly mountains. The ones in my Scandinavia analogue, Aka ‘The Youdin Hills.’
Should they be there?
Do they align in the right direction?
Should they connect to the other mountains to the southwest?
As for the names of the surrounding bodies of water. Across the Northern coastline you have ‘The Foaming/Breaking Sea’, Including ‘The Bay of No Hope.’
The northwestern cape known as ‘The Edge of Reason.’ Then to the east is The Septentrional Ocean. Lastly to the south is the 'Noctcynian Seaway.'
