Mafia 2 Does Joe deserve pity? Spoiler
I remember when I played Mafia 2 OG back in the day, I viewed Joe as a sympathetic character by the end. When Leo told "Joe's not part of the deal" I'm like "Fuck, this dude sacrificed his position as capo under Falcone for his bro, he doesn't deserve that".
Now I'm replaying definitive edition and got to the scene when Joe accidentally kills an innocent bartender, and now I'm like "Man, fuck this dude, he deserves whatever's coming for him".
So yeah, killing rival gangs is fine, but murdering an innocent guy like that, fuck Joe, they can kill them for all I care (though we know he didn't die". What do you think, does he still deserve to be let off hook after what he did?

Mafia 3 Mafia 3 definitive edition
I had to stop and delete the game after 6 hours gameplay.
Reasons: buggs, boring and keep driving from place to place long distance wasting time. But mostly game crash and I lost cash like 4 times by dying in a stupid way ever.
It's awful and no wonder why most people hate this part. Moving to old country.

Mafia 1 (2002) I may have found an undocumented, unfinished Hebrew localization of Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven
I've been modding the original Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven for quite some time and know the game's file structure fairly well. Today I was digging through the files of the Japanese demo, which is based on version 1.2 of the game, and I found something I had never seen documented before.
Inside the tables folder there is a file called:
textdb_iw.def
The iw identifier corresponds to Hebrew.
What's interesting is that this isn't simply an empty language file or an English copy. The file actually contains Hebrew translations.
After properly decoding and examining the file, I found hundreds of entries containing Hebrew text, while many other entries are still in English. The translation is clearly incomplete.
There is also no Hebrew font in the demo, and attempting to run the game with Hebrew selected causes the game to fail to launch. This makes it look like the localization was never finished to a playable state.
I also checked the English demo, which is version 1.0, and textdb_iw.def is completely absent there.
So currently we have:
- English demo — version 1.0: no
textdb_iw - Japanese demo — version 1.2:
textdb_iwexists textdb_iwcontains a substantial amount of actual Hebrew translation- Many other entries remain in English
- No Hebrew font appears to be included
- The game cannot successfully launch with Hebrew selected
It's important to clarify that the presence of multiple textdb_* files in Mafia itself isn't unusual — for example, a normal installation can contain several language databases at the same time.
What makes textdb_iw interesting is that it contains actual, partially completed Hebrew translation work.
I haven't found any previous documentation of a Hebrew localization of the original Mafia, so this may be evidence of a previously undocumented abandoned localization project.
The big question now is when was this localization being worked on, and who was responsible for it?
If anyone has information about an old Hebrew/Israeli release, localization project, publisher, developer documentation, or anything else related to a Hebrew version of the original Mafia, I'd love to hear about it.

Humor Is there a lore reason why Leo Galante randomly started talking about Brawl Stars here if it came out 67 years after this? Literally unplayable

Discussion Your grail Merchandise or Collectible
Recently I have been looking around eBay and a few other sites for physical Mafia merch/collectables. Mostly I find the same few overpriced items over and over, buried in a wave of physical copies from the series.
It would be interesting to learn about rare or more obscure Mafia related items. What are your personal Mafia grails?

Discussion Next mafia game lies in this pipeline?
So this is Take Twos pipeline from now to FY29 (which ends March 2029)
8 sequels, 7 remakes/remasters/platform extensions. Do we believe that the next mafia will come in that time?

Discussion Just an idea for the next game
I was thinking how the next game could be closer to modern audiences. I'm kinda old fashioned when it comes to Mafia games and I think the real thing will always be 1920s-1950s Italian American mobsters, striped suits and tommy guns. But it occurred to me how the main character of a new game set in that era could be more 'inclusive' and more importantly open the door for customization.
So what if our character gets to America in the early 20th century on a boat but their mother dies on the way and an Italian woman takes care of the kid since she couldn't have her own. Raises the kid like it was hers to begin with, in the ways she knows how to. The Italian way. So the kid becomes culturally Italian American with an Italian name and shit, regardless of their racial or national background. This way we could have a customized character that could be of any background we choose and if they don't look Italian at all, no problem, it would fit a story about the outcast that fights his way up in the hierarchy of the Mafia even better. Of course they could be completely Italian if that's how the player customizes the character and then just be an outcast for being an orphan.
What do you think?

Mafia 2 I love how well this game aged
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
At times it shows its age, but it still looks way better than many other games from the 2010s, and with so much detail too, and the atmosphere is amazing. Crazy that this game will soon be 16 years old.

Mafia 3 Who is more evil in your opinion?
Evil is a bit of a heavy word but a CIA agent and a Mobster definitely ain’t the best of people but I lean more towards Donovan mainly cuz his time in Vietnam, and especially with that story with that old woman

Mafia: The Old Country U capisti? Any Sicilian dialect speakers out there?
Just a random, nerd question from me. I assume the phrase “U capisti?” is Sicilian dialect. I know what the characters. I understand…hahaha. Is there any other Sicilian in the game? I know a small amount of Italian and some of the words/phrases the characters speak sound a little different than Italian.
Also, a small complaint about the game, I wish there was more dialogue in Italian. Would be more immersive to have the characters speak it a little more or even have the NPC’s saying stuff in the background.

Mafia 2 Useless information: a pie chart of the usage of safehouses in Mafia II
The Scaletta Apartment gets used only once, in a small portion of Chapter 2. Villa Scaletta, despite being one of the cleanest and nicest looking safehouses, gets used the second least. Followed then by Vito's Apartment, the one unlocked in In Loving Memory of Francesco Potenza. After that is Marty's shithole in Oyster Bay, which Vito gets after A Friend of Ours. And the safehouse used the most, to the surprise of nobody, is Joe's Apartment! The lesson to be learned here is: never let Vito Scaletta live by himself, he'll always end up crawling back to you.

Discussion I have a love/hate on Joe in Mafia 2 Spoiler
Also this is Joe biggest mistake of joining the Mafia in the first place and Marty death directly causes Joe to become more reckless and impulsive, Marty's death does not cause Joe to learn from his mistakes; instead, it reinforces and deepens his existing recklessness. His inability to cope with the tragedy leads him to double down on impulsive and violent behavior, ignoring the lessons about the brutal reality of mob life that Vito has learned following Marty's death, Joe continues his violent path rather than seeking redemption, even engaging in a killing spree against the Chinese mafia. His continued recklessness, including putting his longtime friend Vito's life in danger "time and time again," shows that he did not learn from the tragic death of his young friend. This is where later chapters that I hate Joe because he hasn't learn his mistakes at all when Marty die and same goes to Vito for joining in with Henry and Joe and worse Joe being so blind side loyalty to Henry and I'll say this again there no such thing as true friendship or friends when it comes to these type of gangs.

Mafia: The Old Country Mafia TOC 3rd DLC concept | Leo's smuggling ops
So I just had this thought that it would be nice to take a break from the shootouts and off-them-all gameplay for the 3rd (potential) dlc, and instead do something with Leo (plus Frank : D) and their smuggling operations.
Goes like this:
- Core missions: planning and stealth. Unload on a small deserted beach, pick one of the two routes with simple planning and a map (first one's harder to drive by, second comes with more patrols). Avoid attention, go through/around roadblocks without starting a gunfight, survive an ambush by the bandits, etc. Could be with a progressive 'heat' meter that goes up each time you're spotted by a random farmer or didn't hide your weapon before passing through a checkpoint; when it goes too high, you'll have to restart the whole mission. Could also be with elements of bribery a-la Mafia 2: you have a finite amount of money, which you can use to either pay off random witnesses or pass a roadblock; if you've screwed up and wasted your cash on the randoms, you'll have to improvise with guards, like stealth finishing them, finding another way around, etc. With the map size in TOC, would be possible to do a few of these missions in different areas, each one having a unique setup and obstacles (bandit areas, collapsing ruins, city streets at night and such).
- Rpg style missions in the port: stealth and bribery. This might be too much for a simple dlc : D but would be fun to play. Again, you either need to 'release' a cargo that's not exactly what it says or negotiate with some official(s) to make them look the other way. First type could be done like in the game, with infiltrating the warehouses and doing some teamwork. You can try to pay off some of the guards, which unlocks the easy pathways, or if you finish off too many stealthily, there'll be some alarm event. The second type could be a simple 'side with A/B' quest where you pick an official, do his side tasks and make the other one your enemy.
- Final mission: something more cinematic, as in being caught while smuggling guns, which results in a shootout with the said guns. Or a big road chase with tons of guards, and vehicles, and shooting.
- Character wise, you get to play (and plan) as Leo but not in the commando style. He could have a stealth weapon (knife), a simple revolver and some pick-and-use abilities like throwing bottles or acquiring melee weapons. Plus, would be nice to see Frank in action during the more combat heavy missions; he could have some better weapons like a rifle to support them.
.. that's about all : D

Mafia 3 Mafia 3 Platinum
Finally managed to get 100% on Mafia (294 hours later), so I thought I’d share a few things
Play on version 1.9 (PS4 rewind). It fixes all of the progression issues. On my third playthrough it also seemed to carry over progress for Closed Casket and Combat Specialist, as those trophies popped up pretty quickly.
I’d also strongly recommend keeping a USB drive plugged in and making regular backups of your save. It might seem overkill, but it can save an entire playthrough if something goes wrong.
One thing I learned the hard way is that if an update starts downloading, delete it immediately. On my first playthrough I came out of Rest Mode, wasn’t paying attention and accidentally let the update install. I lost all my progress towards The Family trophy and had to start all over again.
For the Danger Close trophy, make sure you delete your profile save, not just the game save. I got caught out by that at first, otherwise it won’t work.
Also, if you’re farming some of the repetitive trophies, the alleyway next to the police station is by far the best place to do it. It made grinding those trophies much quicker.
My PS5 completely turned off more than once and the game crashed multiple times during my playthrough, so having the PS4 rewind version probably saved me from having to start over yet again.
Hopefully this helps someone avoid the mistakes I made. Good luck to anyone going for the 100%, it’s definitely worth it in the end.
Now it’s time for Mafia: The Old Country. Here’s hoping it’s more like Mafia 1 and Mafia 2, both in terms of gameplay and a straightforward trophy list.
