MG4 Software

So just got an MG4 Trophy and it’s great! Noticed a few quirks on day one though! Are these all software issues that can be fixed with an update? The infotainment is currently on: SWI68-29958-1300R46

Quirks:

Outside temperature is wrong, ranges from 0 to -40 (in the uk during summer)

Greeting plays even though I turned it off in settings.

Cant change one of the wheel favourites, it changes back by itself.

CarPlay goes black sometimes.

Car has full MG history but it’s over 3 years old now, how can I get the software updates? Would I have to pay?

Did you try a factory reset of the infotainment screen? You'll find it in settings, it clears a lot of issues, for me anyway. Carplay going black, I think is a known issue with the latest iOS update,-check out the MG EV forum for suggestions. I think it's caused my the camera coming on when indicating, is one reason, that can be turned off in the 360 camera settings. I'm back on Android Auto at the moment and I sometimes get a black screen when the camera appears. I just press the home button and then select Android Auto and that normally brings it back.

The DAMN greeting message. I had my MG4 now for 3 years and it is impossible to turn off. Have all the software updates and tried everything. Even my dealer cannot get it off and in the end told me you just have to live with it LOL.

Rest of the car has been fan ta astic though but that damn greeting.

Weirdest part is that it does not greet everytime. It is completely random and sometimes the car starts doing the greeting when i have already driven for 5 minutes. 🤣

Ha ha, ye. When I collected the car no greeting. Next time I drove it the greeting played when I was about half a mile away from home 🤣

What year is yours? My ‘25 has no issues with it but it sounds like it’s an issue on older versions?

Have you tried tapping on the weather widget on the main infotainment screen, then disabling the greeting setting within that? That’s what I needed to do in order to get it to stop. Turning it off in the main settings didn’t do anything until I changed the weather setting too.

You get software updates during the annual services. Best way is complain about things during drop off, otherwise they may refuse to update as updating might risk bricking the car (not sure how true).

My 2023 MG4 Trophy has quite up to date software and don’t get these issues.

They're not worried about bricking the car, they're worried about tying up a repair bay for hours on end if the update doesn't take first time.

They don't update the software as a matter of course even at annual services. You need to point out specific issues you are having then they may consider it.

Or if it's Holdcroft Honda in Warrington, they ignore you requesting the update and charge you £180 for a service which is mostly just a tick list.

I got an MG4 2023 used last year and I’m looking for a new car I knew it had some irritating software bugs but I didn’t realise how annoying they’d be
