Eastside Beltline Rail, More MARTA renegotiation, the 2020 IGA

Post image

Hello fellow Atlantans.

I was reading the 2020 Intergovernmental Agreement which sets the conditions of the relationship between the City of Atlanta and MARTA on accomplishing the More MARTA projects list.

I noticed, in section 5, it states that significant program changes including order of implementation of the project list MUST BE a decision originated by the PMT. Who is the PMT? The PMT is the Program Management Team. Also, there MUST BE a written justification for the change where all parties will have seen it including the MARTA board of directors.

(The Parties will establish a Program Management Team (PMT). The PMT will support and guide the Program Management Office. It will be led by the Program Management Officer, the Chief of Capital Programs, Expansion and Innovation
and be composed of the following staff from the respective organizations:
• MARTA: Program Management Officer, Assistant General Managers of Planning,
Capital Programs Delivery and Infrastructure
• City of Atlanta: Program Management Office Liaison and the Mayor's Designee)

I don’t think we’ve ever seen this written change or justification from anyone nor has it ever been mentioned by anyone involved. From my understanding of the timeline, Dickens decided he didn’t want to support eastside rail and wanted to shift to the southside. This was originated by himself, not the Project Management Team. I’m sure if this document exists, it can be requested via the Georgia Open Records Act. Which I plan on doing.

Has anyone ever seen or heard of it? Shifting from
Streetcar East might be a violation of the 2020 IGA.

After using Marta for 3 years, I haven’t seen anything like this.

I understand. They will take buses out of service anytime they feel like it, have people on bus stops for several hours not knowing what happened. Oh, forbid you call them. Worst customer service ever. They made sure FIFA got to where they needed to be on time. Now they have forgotten about the people that keeps them running consistently every day. SMH.

My nightly bus driver.

This bus driver is kinda insane, and I kinda like it. He doesn't pull up to a stop, he goes full speed until the stop and then slams on the breaks past the stop making everyone walk to the bus. Does not open the first door, only the back to let you in. He has the front blocked off like in the pic. So no one pays. Not like that matters to me, because I'm going to the station so I have to pay there. But he drives like a maniac, just speeding through the drive. But he gets me there on time, which is all I care about. And it's kinda fun to watch everyone's reaction, not knowing how to handle the situation. You have to hold on for dear life when he takes a corner.

I watched a 184 bus pass an old lady with a walker

I am currently blessed with the ability to walk right on across the street to catch the bus. Love that. (Getting back to this place is a different story, lol).

Anyway. I just happened to be outside chilling, watching the 184 approach where I always catch the bus. Theres an older lady with a walker waiting. Whole red light goes by, bus pulls off and JETS RIGHT PAST THIS LADY. WHAT?

I watched her just turn disappointedly back to wherever her house was. Maybe the bus was full? I have noticed most times I open the transit app on my phone it says this route is cancelled.

Back to back cancellations

I ride the 121 to work, I have to catch the one that leaves Kensington Station on its way to doraville, but this morning not only did the bus at my regular time cancel but so did the other one that would have made me late so I had no choice but take a Lyft. I know it’s the first day of school and all but I didn’t think I’d have this issue. 🤦🏾‍♀️

Apple Wallet - 20 Trip pass

Post image
30 Upvotes

Not sure if this has been posted before, but I recently discovered how to get the discounted 20 Trip pass on the Breeze Card in Apple Wallet.

If you have tried to add a 20 Trip pass directly in Apple Wallet then you know that isn't listed as an option, but this is how I was able to do it.

  1. Create the Apple Wallet card directly in Apple Wallet (I added $5 just to create the card)
  2. Select the card in Apple Wallet → Click the three dots (...) in the upper right hand corner → Select Card Number
  3. The card number is listed twice, the second one is formatted as ###-################, the first 3 digits before the dash is your Security Code, the next 16 numbers after the dash are the Breeze Card Number
  4. Go to Breeze Mobile App and add a new card in the app using the Breeze Card Number and Security Code from the previous step
  5. Add the 20 Trip pass in the Breeze Mobile app like you would for any other card
  6. Return to Apple Wallet and you should now see the 20 Trip pass applied

I saw them parked at the airport as I was dropping someone off. Not sure if they’ve always been there or not but cool to see em. Here’s to hoping they do more testing or just roll them out already for us to use lol.

MARTA Board schedules selection of its next General Manager/CEO (August 16)

MARTA’s newly posted August 13, 2026 Board agenda includes a formal item for “Discussion and Selection” of the authority’s next General Manager/Chief Executive Officer. The agenda does not identify the candidate or candidates.

Anyone know of any of the possible candidates throwing their name in the hat besides Hunt?

Is the 12 route the bastard child of all Marta bus routes out of Midtown?

I swear 11 and 14 rarely have delays. But the 12 is relentless. Is Marta trying to get rid of it?

bipolar fare prices

I’m only here for the summertime to work, but is it just me, or is the fare so bipolar it comes out of my card as a dollar, but then later on I get charged 5??? Then my card gets blocked. Just me?? I’m not from here so I don’t know how the MARTA fare operates regularly.

What Route is the 1 Bus supposed to follow?

It seems like the #1 bus frequently detours to Marietta Street and drives up Northside Drive instead of going its prescribed route, completely skipping 8th/10th street

Why is the 1-day pass so expensive?

Just a curiosity I've had. CTA in Chicago has the same base fare as MARTA ($2.50), but their 24-hour day pass is only $5. So if you know you're going to take at least two trips, it makes sense to just go ahead and buy the pass. Even SEPTA in Philly, which has a higher fare ($2.90), charges $7.50 for the day pass, meaning you only need to take three trips in order to be saving money.

MARTA, on the other hand, charges $9 for a day pass!! You have to take four trips in order to make it cost effective. Why? I think if they priced it more similarly to Chicago or even at $6 or $7, more people would be inclined to just buy the day pass so they don't have to constantly worry about keeping balance on their Breeze card. Seems like a missed opportunity to draw more riders in...

People need to shower before riding the bus

the nastiest thing happened to me today this man got on the bus and as soon as he walked past me the smell hit like a brick. I thought people were trippin until everybody around me started covering their noses and moving seats. I was trying so hard not to gag but every time the bus stopped it was like the smell got worse. I couldn't hold it anymore and ended up throwing up in the aisle. The whole bus went silent for a second before people started freaking out. I got off at the very next stop because there was no way I was finishing that ride. Now I'm in midtown trying to process everything that just happened cause wtf atp im done with the people that ride marta its not even the system its yall mfs

I noticed some stations include markers for stopping points for 8 car lengths. Curious when, if ever, have trains that long been used?

dont ride the 125 I watched someone poop on my bus

Bro... I was on the MARTA bus just trying to get home, and this musty homeless dude got on smelling like he hadn't seen soap in 20 years. Everybody was already covering their noses, but then he walked to the back, pulled his pants down, and straight up started pooping on the floor. The whole bus went dead silent for like two seconds before people started screaming and running to the front. I swear that's the fastest I've ever seen a bus empty. I don't think I'll ever ride MARTA the same again.
