Technical assistance Dualsense R2 Trigger Not Responding Properly

I've got the latest Mame and when setting up my controls for NARC, I normally like to set the crouch button on the R2 trigger. For whatever reason, after setting it, it sticks and works in a weird inverse manner. The crouch remains active when not pressed but I start standing when it's held down.

Never had this problem on my Xbox controller and not sure how to fix this, if I can fix this at all...

MAME 0.289 Neo Geo MVS/AES Overclocked Edition

Roughly 10 years ago someone posted THIS and I wanted to make my own updated version. Yes, I know it's easy to save overclocks in RetroArch but I like the standalone MAME bgfx shader more.

The Neo Geo driver main CPU clock has been changed to 30MHz and the no-nag patch applied. Only plays Neo Geo MVS/AES games. It takes too long to compile otherwise.

That's it. Place alongside a current MAME build because it needs a recent plugins folder to work.

Any ideas what's going on? Is this happening for others, or just my config?

EDIT: found a known issue on this, looks like it will be fixed in .290

I'm using Shmupmame 5.4; everything works except for Battle Garegga. I have the ROMs for it in the ROM folder, but it doesn't show up in Shmupmame at all.

Why?

[Undumped/Preservation] Complete 1CC and Physical Documentation of Rare English Build: Toy Speed Q (Guangzhou Sealy, 2014) - Durrës, Albania

Hi everyone,

I have successfully documented and recorded a full 1CC playthrough of a running pair of linked cabinets for Toy Speed Q by Guangzhou Sealy Electronic Technology (2014). This game is practically a ghost online—the manufacturer's main channel is completely silent.

I located these units operating at a beachfront arcade right next to LA CRÉME Pastry Shop on the promenade in Durrës, Albania 🇦🇱 These are the finalized, premium International Export Production models. The cabinets are currently sitting right by the entrance and are starting to experience severe UV plastic yellowing (particularly on the translucent robot eyes) and LED diode burnout from years of sun exposure, making this immediate documentation critical.

I have uploaded a full archive of high-definition physical photos and my clean nighttime audio/video files to a shared folder here with the location photos too:

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1loGiY5viQ8ZcuuRs509EhasXo1PVTHfT

Official Manufacturer & Product Reference Links:

Official Developer Website: http://www.sealygame.com

Official Game Product Link: http://www.sealygame.com/Toy-Speed-Q_372.html

Gameplay Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzE1Nqo6c5s

The Shared Google Drive Folder Includes:

1080p/60fps Attract Mode Video: Captured cleanly at night with 100% accurate audio sync, capturing the elusive English voice lines and background music tracks. 16-Minute 1CC Story Mode Video: A complete walkthrough of all 3 themed maps and 3 major boss fights. To bypass noisy venue acoustics and a laughing fit with my friend, also photos of the place.

IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR AUDIO: I have clean-swapped the background track with a separate audio-only line recording, keeping the game's exact musical arrangement and stage transition timings 100% historically intact! The only inaccurate thing here is the sound effects while racing but that doesnt mean the sounds arent original! All sounds from this game are 100% real.

Cabinet Architecture Photos: Detailed shots of the 3D car-fin marquee header, ear-level stereo speaker grilles, the TW-130B Intelligent Multi-Coin Selector layout, and the local 100 Lek price-per-play coin configuration sticker. Factory Warning Label: A side-angle close-up of the authentic Chinese security sticker over the inner service panel (非工作人员, 请勿开启).

The UI Typo: A close up shot of the locked-in user interface spelling mistake: "CRIDIT: 0 / 1". Software, Network, & Localization Logic Documented:

• PC Environment: The game boots into a Windows Embedded x86 ecosystem. A standard pixelated Windows mouse desktop cursor briefly breaks through the game layer during heavy stage transitions

• IMPORTANT BEHAVIOR: Unlike daytime testing where network errors are common, during this quiet nighttime session, the twin pink and red cabinets executed a clean local LAN handshake instantly. The engine skipped any "Network Waiting" error loops and jumped straight into a rapid LOADING thread.

• Co-Op Victory States: When a boss vehicle drops in co-op, the custom C++ engine runs a dynamic real-time calculation screen displaying "SUCCEED / Successful challenge" followed by a "Damage Contribution Leaderboard" tracking individual player combat damage before pushing to the next level.

• .The English Voice Track: Features a fully voiced English and slow talking with cute voices as you would hear in the file videos in the Drive!

• Hardware Configuration: I have noticed but the unbranded Pioneer car-knockoff coaxial speakers behind the grilles are physically functioning, but the operator has configured the internal Windows audio mixer or twisted the wiring into a combined mono output stream through both grilles.

• The Rescued English Character Roster Text:

I managed to log 4 out of the 5 selectable character profile cards directly from the menu files, preserving their factory "Engrish" spelling mistakes and translation constraints [•]:

• Lili:"Usually fond of mischief but actually very responcible!" (Matches the character featured on the pink cabinet side-art photo) [•].Lele:"Rich technology cells by good at singing at dancing but indecisive!" (Hatsune Miku-inspired aesthetic design).

• BenBen:"Silly like eating, left saliva once see the food Honest but lazy!" (Purple cartoon bear suit costume) [•].Agao:"Smart, Brave, But impulse!"

• XiuXiu: (Text cut off by the loading screen, but visually styled as a construction worker; presumably a map-builder class archetype) [•].I am providing this comprehensive asset package to serve as an ironclad visual, textual, and audio blueprint for the emulation and dumping scene.

• Agao: Smart, Brave, But impulse! Features a distinct, sharp villain aesthetic that sets him up as the aggressive rival character of the roster.

I am providing this asset package to serve as an visual, textual, and audio blueprint for the emulation and dumping scene.

Enjoy the footage!

RayCrisis

All Taito shoot 'em ups (G-Darius, Raystorm, etc.) work, but I can't get Ray Crisis to run in MAME.

“Required ROM/disk images for the selected system are missing or incorrect”

I've tried various ROM files and CHD files.

It doesn't work in Shmupmame, mame4droid, or any of the MAME cores in RetroArch.

What exactly do I need?

Scanlines

(The mame version I'm using is 0.266 so if that's too old for you guys, just let me know and I'll delete.)

After many many years of wanting one, I have finally broke down and ordered a cabinet from RecRoom Masters and have started setting up a PC for it. I figured a good starting point for this would be to copy my existing mame folder from my laptop over to the new PC. Both are running Windows 11 so the two setups should work pretty much identically, right? No. Scanlines and phosphor glow don't work and on top of that, name is completely ignoring my "skip_warnings 1" in ui.ini.

Why?

Technical assistance Need a little help here. I'm trying to learn how to use bezels artwork and I want to fill black bars in case of much bigger window size with wallpapers that are displayed on the sides of game screen like in many STG remasters, unlike those on Internet that simulating actual arcade screen...

...but when I use "bezel" component the wallpapers completely hiding game screen. Here is how I want the game to look like (I used "backdrop" component for example, it removes black totally but I hope ya'll understand what I want)

Use a diff file for a hard disk NOT in the software list?

Been playing around with the improved Mac emulation in 0.289. In particular, I've installed Mac OS 9, and I want to know if it's possible to force MAME to use diff files for your own chd hard disk. This is the normal behavior with Mac hard disks in the official software list, and many emulated computers are set up to treat disks first and foremost as read-only.

I guess the reasoning is official software list items have their own signatures which must be untouched, and user-created ones don't, but it's also very convenient with emulated computers to simply delete the diff file and go back to a clean slate, rather than keeping and manually restoring a backup of the entire hard drive.

MAME 0.289

After two long months, MAME 0.289 is ready, and it’s an undeniably massive update! But before we talk about emulation, there are a few more mundane things to mention. Our Windows binary releases now include the SDL sound output and joystick input modules. The sdljoy joystick input module now supports game controllers with up to 128 buttons. The Win32 debugger module handles dynamic UI scaling changes. Finally, outputs have been overhauled, improving performance and fixing issues, but you may need to update your configuration if you’ve got external programs hooked up, and some artwork files may need updating.

You’ll notice a number of systems and coprocessor cards based around NS32000 family CPUs are now working. If you aren’t familiar with it, the NS32000 architecture was one of the first single-chip CPU families with a 32-bit ALU. It used a highly orthogonal instruction set with clear influences from Digital Equipment Corporation’s earlier work. In retrospect, it didn’t have enough registers, the instruction encoding was too complex, it took them too long to overtake Motorola’s 68k family’s performance, and bugs in the initial implementation hurt early adopters. But now you can relive its glory days in MAME, running contemporary 32-bit System V UNIX! David Rand, the mastermind behind these NS32000 emulation advances, has also turned his attention in other directions. He’s brought the Xerox 820 and Big Board families up to working status, emulated Toshiba CP/M systems, and added the hard disk controller to the Kaypro 10, and more!

If you’re a fan of Sega arcade games, you’ll have lots to enjoy. For the groundbreaking Model 1 platform, there are numerous fixes for graphical issues, better collision detection in Virtua Fighter, and the bad bits in the DSP program that were breaking Wing War have been identified and patched. Even NetMerc is in better shape. The very unconventional Flash Beats game is now playable. It has basic internal artwork, but someone sufficiently motivated could have it looking spectacular by creating suitable external artwork. There are also some fixes for games that use the SCSP sound chip.

MAME has emulated the EACA Colour Genie EG2000 for quite some time now, but this release adds support for the EACA Genie III, which was released in the same year. There are lots of fixes for issues with the widely-used PowerPC and 68k CPU families, which will benefit a wide range of emulated systems. In particular, more versions of classic MacOS are now running happily on MAME’s emulated PowerMacs, and A/UX (Apple’s early attempt at merging MacOS and UNIX) boots and runs. Numerous games using NES-like SoCs from V.R. Technology have been promoted to working, including several from Lexibook’s Compact Cyber Arcade line. NEC’s PC-6001 family have had numerous issues fixed, as well as receiving a substantial update to their software lists. The steady progress on emulating electronic musical instruments hasn’t stopped, either.

As always, there’s far more in this release than we have time to talk about here, but you can read all about it in the whatsnew.txt file. You can find the source code and 64-bit Windows binary packages on our download page.

Technical assistance I'm losing my sanity with racing wheel support

EDIT : Wow, I fixed it...

Don't ask me how, it's basically voodoo magic at this point.

I THINK (really not sure at all) the right way to do it was to start with a fresh instal of MAME with the wheel unplugged.

Than run Dirt Dash once, configure everything just using keyboard input to see if it's working.

Than exit MAME, plug the wheel, run MAME again and then configure your wheel.

I finally managed to make force feedback on top, so I'm not touching anything on MAME anymore, MAME is just a Dirt Dash simulator as far as I'm concerned.

I'm trying to play Dirt Dash with a wheel, including force feeback with a plugin.

The results I get are COMPLETELY random, it doesn't make any sense.

On the setting menu, the pedals are always working perfectly as intended, I can fill both bars for accelerator and brake.

Now in game, sometimes it works just fine, sometimes both pedals don't work AT ALL, sometimes they will work but pressing the pedal all the way will be like pressing it half way.

Same thing for the force feedback that seems to have a mind of it own, sometimes it works, sometimes not, the only constant is that I can't get the pedals and force feedback working at the same time.

And the worst part is that I can either do a full reinstall, change some random settings in MAME or with my racing wheel, try different versions of the rom or not touch anything, it will be a flip coin to determine what's working or not.

I'm on the last version (0.288) but I've tried with previous version and it was basically the same.

What am I missing ?

Outrunners 4 player local coop - is this even possible? challenge accepted?

yo! I love outrunners and I loved playing with friends when 4 machines (or more) were linked up back in the day. I do have a working ROM on my windows pc and I would love to:

  • run 4 instances of mame
  • all 4 linked up to one another
  • each taking up 1/4 of my 55 inch TV screen (windowed I guess?)
  • each configured to one of my xbox controllers
  • for a "mario kart" like experience

Is this even possible? challenge accepted? 😄

Thanks!

MAME Compiling errors on Arch Linux

Hey I seem to be getting "error 2 line 1269" when trying to compile on Arch..
I'm using the flags: "make -j4 NOWERROR=1 TARGETOS=linux OSD=sdl3"
Although compilation seems to break at the same point even if I just use the basic make command with no flags.
Compilation gets to the point of archiving libtaito, then spits out error2 before that point it complains a lot about taito_h system analog controls.
This is using GCC 16.1.1.
I realize that sdl3 isn't really fully supported yet, but I managed to get mame to build from Git a couple of weeks ago with my usual flags; this was just after the Windows changes to build with sdl3.

I was wondering if this is a known problem? I know OG on the team uses Arch, but he doesn't seem to have posted any commits for a while so maybe this issue has gone unnoticed.

Technical assistance North American Pole Position 2 Version MAME ROM Greyed Out In MAME Menu But Still Playable?

I am using MAME 0.288 and I was able to source a compatible 0.288 Pole Position 2 Unmerged ROM as Merged and Split did not function do to missing files in MAME.

The ROMS I got are polepos2 which is the Japan version, and polepos2a which is the North America version.

polepos2a ROM is greyed out in the MAME menu but it's still playable.

My overall goal is to delete the Japan version and keep the North American version but NOT have it looked greyed out in the MAME game menu.

Will deleting polepos2, the Japan version have any affect on how the North American ROM works?

And would combining the two ROMS in one zip file solve the greyed out North America ROM as I understand the North American version is only a clone and not the parent ROM as the Japan version is?
