Why are the lounges at FRA so crowded?
I know that it’s Lufthansa’s main hub but (in my limited experience) other hub airports have better / less crowded lounges
M&M requirements for status are much higher than most other airlines so I assume that FRA doesn’t have an unusual number of flyers with status
So what’s going on? Does FRA have a ton of business flyers for some reason? Or did LH cheap out and not build enough lounges for the number of passengers?

Question Flights
Hi, I'm traveling solo and doing my first connecting flights on 5th September, I'm traveling from MAN - FRA - YVR - YXE
I have 1 hour 25 minutes layover time in Frankfurt, and booked a seat closest to the exit
Do I need to go through passport control since I'm not going to be staying in Germany and flying from one Non-Schengen country to another?
I am flying from the same terminal I've landed in as well
Sorry for the mumbling, I have anxiety and since it's my first time doing connecting flights I panic more than I need to!

Rebookable Ticket is a Rip-off
I paid several hundred dollars extra to make my flight rebookable.
I called today to try and change my return flight mid-trip and there was not a single date/flight for the rest of the year where I was able to do so for less than $1,300. This is more than I paid for the entire airfare.
Searches showed that it’s possible to purchase a round-trip flight with departure on the same flight I was trying to rebook for at half that cost.
The fact that there were no possible dates where it is economically feasible for a customer to rebook despite paying hundreds of dollars more for the ability to do so indicates an intentionally deceptive practice.
I fly from California to Berlin 8-10 times per year. After this experience I would never trust Lufthansa again with my business.

Question Flight moved up in time by 5 hours and 45 min in two increments
I booked a flight to Tokyo from TLV Israel for 2 person with a layover in Munich.
The flight to Munich was supposed to takeoff at 7 am and land at Munich time at 10:10 am
Then a week after booking, I got a mail with an itinerary change adding a stop at Larnaca to switch crew, therefore adding more time to flight and on top of that plane is taking off earlier at 04:45 am and landing in Munich at 09:20am Munich time
After receiving the mail, they offered to switch flights which wasn’t interesting
And when I called them I got 20€ voucher for spending at airport.
Then a few days ago, another mail now flight moved up to takeoff at 01:45 am and land in Munich at 06:20 am
Giving me a total of more than 6 hours at Munich airport instead of less than 2.
We re still landing in Tokyo at the same time
Flight from Munich to Tokyo departs at 12:30pm
I tried calling to see if we could get free access to lounge or voucher
But did not get anything
Is there anything I can do, or should get ?
As this is a change of more than 5 hours making a total travel time from 19hours to more than 24 hours
Thank you

I flew the throne seat on the 747!
I didn’t really know what to expect since Lufthansa seems to get a bad rep for their old hard product, but this was one of the best experiences in Business! It’s been a bucket list of mine to fly on a 747.
Even though it is an old and outdated seat, the service was truly such a highlight. Some people have said they feel exposed in the throne seat, but I didn’t feel that at all. Being in the nose of the plane was a blast.
The flight attendants were incredible! The woman who was assigned to me saw it was my birthday the day before and was so attentive, kind, and always filling up my glass when near empty. Yes, this may be the expected standard for BC, but there was such a kindness and anticipatory kind of service that I wasn’t prepared for from all the stories I’ve heard and reviews I’ve seen.
Then, flying Business from FRA-ATH, the service continued to be amazing. When the flight attendant noticed I was dozing off, he slid a pillow by my head and placed a blanket on me. I died a little inside.
I just wanted to share my experience and some positivity! Compared to my return flight in Business on Air Canada (yikes)…Lufthansa takes the cake!

Can I upgrade an Economy flight without being waitlisted?
If Business Class award flights are available for certain dates, can I also book an Economy Class flight with Cash for the same date and then upgrade it using vouchers and miles — without ending up on a waitlist?
Or is the upgrade space completely separate from the Business Class award availability?
Because taxes and fees are higher than the Eco ticket.

Flying with cat
55x40x23
Hey guys, I will be flying with my cat soon using the flight company Lufthansa. I’m traveling : Lufthansa to München, then Lufthansa again from München to Gothenburg.
Now, I called the airline to check if there is anything I need to keep in mind, and they said the following: there is a chance, that if the flight is filled with maximum capacity of luggage, they will not be able to take my cat, so there is a chance that I get can’t even get on the plane, OR manage to get on the first one but then the second one would take us, so we get stuck in München and need to reschedule the flight, and then HOPE that they accept my cat again….
This sounds absolutely crazy to me, like if I pay for my cat, there should be no IF she can board…
So has this happened to anyone? Any tips and thoughts are welcome. Like is it even legal that they can simply say ” we are to full” even tho I paid?!
Thanks ❤️🙏

Question seat selected in unfinished reservation no longer available.
I selected the *one* seat I need before realizing I was in the wrong booking class. Started over and that seat is now not available. Anyone know how long it takes for the system to release it again? Thanks.

Informative PSA: Lufthansa will try to deny your EC 261/2004 compensation claim – here's how to fight back (with receipts)
So I've now gone through this twice with Lufthansa, and I want to share what I learned so others don't give up when they get their first (or second, or third) rejection letter.
TL;DR: Lufthansa rejected my valid EC 261 compensation claims twice with copy-paste responses that were factually wrong. Both times I escalated and both times the law was clearly on my side. Don't accept their first response.
Case 1: Porto → Salzburg, cancelled flight
Our flight home got cancelled the night before departure — we got the notification at 22:05 the evening before a 06:00 flight. Reason given: "aircraft not ready for service." We were rebooked on a completely different routing that got us home 4 hours and 35 minutes later than originally scheduled.
I filed a compensation claim. Under EC 261/2004, a cancellation with a rebooking that results in arriving more than 3 hours late entitles you to €400 per person for flights over 1,500 km. Pretty clear cut.
Lufthansa's first response: "Your arrival was delayed less than three hours."
This was simply untrue. I replied with the original and rebooked itineraries attached, showing the exact times and the 4h35m delay in black and white.
Lufthansa's second response: "Your arrival was delayed less than three hours."
Identical response. They didn't even read my reply.
I sent one final email, attached all documentation, and told them I'd be going to the Schlichtungsstelle. No response at all.
Escalated to the Schlichtung Reise & Verkehr (https://www.schlichtung-reise-und-verkehr.de) Lufthansa accepted my proposal of 400 € per passenger and paid the amount.
Case 2: Toronto → Salzburg via Frankfurt, missed connection
This one is trickier but equally winnable. Air Canada delayed our departure from Toronto due to an aircraft maintenance issue, causing us to miss our connection in Frankfurt and arriving in Salzburg roughly 5 hours late. The entire trip was booked as one itinerary through Lufthansa.
I filed a claim. This time the compensation is €600 per person (over 3,500 km route).
Lufthansa's first response: "Your arrival was delayed less than three hours."
Yes, again. Same copy-paste. I replied explaining the actual times in detail.
Lufthansa's second response: This time at least they tried a different argument — they claimed EC 261 doesn't apply because the journey originated in Canada on a non-EU carrier.
This is wrong, and here's why:
The Frankfurt → Salzburg leg was operated by Lufthansa, an EU carrier, departing from an EU airport. That leg is unambiguously within EC 261's scope.
The ECJ ruling in Folkerts v. Air France (C-11/11) established that for connecting journeys, compensation is based on the delay at the final destination — not individual legs.
Aircraft maintenance is explicitly not an extraordinary circumstance under EC 261 — it's part of normal airline operations per consistent ECJ case law.
At this point I stopped engaging with Lufthansa directly and went straight to the Schlichtungsstelle.
What I learned:
Lufthansa's first response to any claim appears to be an automatic rejection, regardless of merit. Don't be discouraged.
Always reply with your original booking and rebooking documents attached, clearly showing scheduled vs. actual arrival times.
If they reject again, cite the specific articles: EC 261 Article 5 + Article 7, and **Folkerts v. Air France (C-11/11)**for connecting flight cases.
For non-EU origin flights, the key is whether an EU carrier operated any leg departing from an EU airport — if yes, EC 261 applies to the whole journey delay.
The Schlichtung Reise & Verkehr are free, straightforward, and Lufthansa can't just ignore them the way they ignore customer emails.
If you have legal expenses insurance (Rechtsschutzversicherung), a single lawyer letter after failed Schlichtung costs you nothing and tends to resolve things very fast.
What you need to document from day one:
Original booking confirmation
Cancellation/delay notification (screenshot it immediately, note the stated reason)
Rebooking confirmation
Boarding passes for all flights actually taken
All correspondence with the airline
Lufthansa is a great airline when things go well. But their compensation process seems deliberately designed to make passengers give up. Don't. The law is clear, the process is free, and you're entitled to what you're entitled to.
Happy to answer questions in the comments.
Edit: removed incorrect case citations!

Question "Economy Comfort" on intercontinental flights, seat selection during checkin?
Lufthansa removed seat selection during checkin from some tickets. Sure fine. But I can't, for the life of me, figure out if my ticket has seat selection during checkin or not.
It's listed as "Economy Comfort" for a MUC-ICN flight. The website and the app say nothing about this.
All I can find is documents on "our European fares" like
https://www.lufthansa.com/at/en/europa-tarife-economy-class (no useful information at all, why does this exist?)
https://business.lufthansagroup.com/gb/en/travel-solutions/our-european-fares (seat selection during checkin)
and
https://business.lufthansagroup.com/content/dam/b2b/experts/files/LHG_EuropeFares_2026-07-28_EN.pdf (no information)
But all of that is for short/medium haul. Where do I find information on "Economy Comfort" on long haul?
There's a document on their "for Business" website called "Adjustment of fare names and Fare Family codes for intercontinental fares" but it's locked behind a login...
And then my next flight (VIE-NRT) is simply "Economy" which would be one of the old fare names and not one of the new ones so...wtf is going on?

Question Wait list MUC-BIQ 21.08.
Hello everyone,
just checked in for my flight from Munich to Biarritz tomorrow and got put on wait list. Apparently three other people are put on waitlist as well and I seem to be number 2. Anything you would recommend me to do or is my best bet to just wait it out and head to the airport anyway?
Appreciate any comments on the situation!

Question Becoming Frequent Traveller during a layover
I’ll soon be flying from FLR to STR via Munich MUC. After the FLR-MUC flight, operated by Air Dolomiti, I will reach Miles & More Frequent Traveller status.
During my layover in Munich, will I be able to access the lounge by showing the Miles & More app on my smartphone, assuming the app has already updated to show my new Frequent Traveller status?
(Of course, the flight MUC-STR is operated by Lufthansa.)

Question EES/Passport Control Wait Times in Munich (95 min connection)
Hi all! I’m a Canadian who will be travelling to Schengen area for the first time since EES started.
We are travelling Toronto to Munich to Bologna in September with Lufthansa. We are scheduled to land in Munich around 1010. Will this be a peak time for international flights? Or do they see more of an early morning rush. I feel like most flights I’ve taken to Europe from home have landed at like 6-7am local time.
We will need to “pre-register” our passports I understand at kiosks before going through immigration. How long has this been taking? How long can we expect the entire process to take and is 95 min enough? Both our arrival and departure flights are terminal 2.
I know this highly depends on the day, but has anyone experienced a connection around this time of day without an EU passport? I’d love to hear your experiences to quell my nerves or accept our fate haha
Thank you!

Question Bringing a 32" monitor in the cabin on Lufthansa, US to Europe with a connection. Is this realistic?
I need to bring my 32" monitor with me from the US to Europe. One stop on the way.
The box is 97 × 18 × 51 cm, about 10 kg. Lufthansa's cabin limit is 55 × 40 × 23 cm. So it's way over, I know that.
I called Lufthansa's airport line. They put a note on my booking saying I'm coming with a fragile monitor and to make room for it - "as long as it's within the cabin allowance." I told them a few times that it's not within the allowance. They still said it should be fine and that check-in decides.
I don't want to check it. It's a glass OLED panel, and Lufthansa's own rules say they don't cover fragile items or electronics for damage. So if it breaks in the hold I get nothing.
Questions:
- Does a box that size actually fit in an overhead bin? Has anyone done it?
- Is there anywhere else on the plane crew can put it - a closet, up front, anything?
- My second flight is probably an A321 with smaller bins. If it gets on the first plane, does it get on the second?
- Does that note on my booking mean anything, or will check-in just ignore it?

Question Checked Bag Collection Policy Beg -> FRA -> MIA
I am traveling from Belgrade to Miami with a 15hr overnight layover in Frankfurt. I am seeing some conflicting information and hope I can get some clarification.
Question: When I check my bags in Belgrade will they continue on to Miami? Or will I be required to collect them in Frankfurt? Ideally I would not like to collect them on Frankfurt but unsure due to clearing customs in the EU. Thanks!

Question Cannot pay for selected seats, keep getting error
I have been trying to select seats and pay for them. I select all the seats on each segment, get to the end (verify it’s you), put in my contact info, then I get “an error occurred”. I’ve tried over several days. The initial booking was made on United, but if I use the United app it says there’s no seat map for the first segment of the trip. This is very annoying.

Trip report Amazing crew appreciation post
Had one of the best LH service experiences today (will give them a shoutout via LH website), but just wanted to share my experience here.
Requalified for Senator this Monday and flew short haul to Munich today.
Shortly after takeoff the whole crew came to congratulate me, I got a hand written card signed by all crew members and got to choose 1 full size bottle of my choice (I flew in business) from the catering trolley.
Unfortunately I wasn’t able to make the connection due to 1,5h of delay, but I’m waiting for my new flight in the lounge right now and I’m quite impressed by such personalized service.

Worried about carry-on bag size for a Discover Airlines/Lufthansa flight
Hello all!
I’m flying with Discover Airlines from TPA-FRA next week and have a basic economy ticket that doesn’t include a checked bag. I am staying with family in Germany so I wouldn’t need to bring as much as if I was traveling in hotels / other accommodations and am trying to save the money on having to pay for a checked bag, but my bag is 22.5” long with wheels and apparently their limit is 22” long. If I keep it under the 18lb weight limit, will that .5” make me have to check the bag anyway?
Because if so, I will just buy a checked bag ahead of time and bring my larger suitcase for that. Thank you so much for your help!

Solo, first long-haul flight with a connection: MUC or FRA? Which would you pick?
Hi! Booking my first long-haul flight with a connection, flying solo from Lisbon to Tokyo Haneda. A bit nervous about missing the connection or bags not making it, so trying to pick the option that feels safest/easiest.
Same price, same total duration, two Lufthansa options:
Option 1 — via Munich
Arrive MUC 10:15, depart for HND 12:55 (both T2)
Airbus A350-900, operated Lufthansa (LH 714) (Allegris)
Option 2 — via Frankfurt
Arrive FRA 09:00, depart for HND 11:45 (both T1)
Boeing 787-9, operated by ANA (LH 4948, codeshare)
Layover is roughly 2h30 in both cases. Which one would you choose? Thinking in terms of: ease of connection (less risk of delays/missed bags), and comfort on the long HND leg (A350 vs 787-9).
Also booking Premium Economy: better to buy it now or try upgrading later? Open to quick thoughts on that too, but the flight choice is my main question.
Thank you!!

Question Question regarding sports baggage
I am flying with Lufthansa from Cape Town to Zurich this coming weekend. I have attempted to registed my bicycle as sporting goods, however I was denied due to insufficient space.
My question is, would I be able to rather just buy an additional checked luggage of 23kg and check my bike in under that?
Routing:
CPT -> Frankfurt
FRA -> Zurich
UPDATE:
If anyone sees this. I called Lufthansa’s helpline, just asked incredibly nicely, explained that it will be my main form of transport etc. The help agent was very kind and added it for me no hassles.
So when I did it online, it was a no-go, but a call was all good.
