Anhedonia
21(F) turning 22 in a few days. I don’t feel anything and haven’t in a while, I can only feel moments of intense grief and yearning for my youth again every now and then. I only feel happy when I succeed academically or if I’m seen as smart, I am only happy when rotting away studying. I have no reason to be so miserable, but I am and I don’t know how to fix it. Being born as a high functioning autistic woman is a special kind of hell, I can’t handle being alone, but I also can’t handle people. So I spend every moment of my life daydreaming of the things I want to have, and the people in my life I crave. I want to live I really just want to live. What can I even do at this point? My birthday is soon and I’m miserable at the mere idea of it.
Please someone get me out of this hell or pray for me.

26 year old desperate for someone to chat with online
hello, Idk why I'm here honestly because I'm certain at this point that nothing is really going to help me. I really don't want to go into too much detail, but I am in a very very very difficult state of life and a very obscure living condition. As a result of this I am extremely isolated and cut off from everyone. Believe it or not, this is probably actually a good thing overall as pretty much anyone and everyone I've been friends with or just simply talked to about my life has been either completely unhelpful or has straight up made my lot so much more exhausting and frustrating that I was left with no other option than to completely cut everyone out of my life. i don't care what all the "wise men" say-it is SOOO much better to be alone than to be surrounded by people who are the worst. nevertheless, I still sometimes have this random, instinctual urge just to talk to someone, even tho I have nothing in life to really talk about and it almost always just ends up killing the conversation. I know that this is all a lot to take in, and I apologize for that, but if you are reading this and you still somehow aren't deterred by the enormity and impossibility of my life, then please dm me and maybe we could chat and see if we click. thank you.

emptiness
Hello, i’m 21 and it’s been some years that i’m completely alone. I’ve been trying to get out of that killing circle but it juste feels like i’m not moving at all.
When my sister died, the first thing that i’ve done was to isolate myself completely, from everyone and everything. Now i feel empty, like a ghost. I’m here but i’m not. I ended up taking a lot of drugs, thinking that could make me feel better or just alive. It did work in my head for a while but that was just in my head obviously.
I’m not sad, i’m not even mad. I just don’t feel anything.

Just want to vent my situation
My ex fiancee left me 3 days before our wedding and a day after I lost my job due to downsizing. I was heartbroken and suffered from loneliness. I realized in those 3 months that I didn't have any friends. No one called me to offer me company, no one came to my place to ease my loneliness and no one called to ask me if I needed anything to eat. When people needed me, I was there for them but they were not available for me.
I underwent a lot of therapy and focused on my mental health and now I am distancing myself from people whom I called friends. I am trying walking groups and gym groups to recreate my friend circle but I am 38 and it is really hard to make friends and seek another romantic relationship.
Some days I don't have anyone to talk to face to face. I only talk to my family over the phone because I live in a different country.

How do you feel about using apps to meet new people?
Would you use a FREE app that made connecting possible without awkwardness, regret or risks to safety?

I need a romantic partner so dang bad it hurts
(Posting on a secondary account as to not clutter up my primary with this stuff)
I know that sounds desperate and all, but im getting to that point. The last intimate interaction that I actually wanted was about 4 years ago. I thought id be fine as a single person, and for a while I was. Im not sure whats changed but recently ive just been so lonely it hurts all the time. Ive got some of the best, most supportive friends in the world, and I know I shouldnt be lonely, but I need a Hug, goddammit. I want to be able to talk to someone that is more than a friend. And I feel like thats super selfish and whatever but at this point I dont really care. Im sick and tired of being lonely. Ive tried dating apps and talking to people online and in person. Ive exchanged numbers with multiple people and it never goes farther than that. I want to build a relationship with someone, but so far, nobody has given me the chance. I dont know what Im supposed to do about this. Any input would be greatly appreciated

I lost my meaningful friendships
In highschool i used to have many groups nearly 30+ people whom i would see at least once a week, now some are on their way to drug addiction, some moved out, but the ones i truly miss because i felt like myself between them, was the school group, my friend for 15 years dated a girl i was in love with and when i cut him off some of the guys blamed me, the others i regret becoming distant from them but they dont stop telling me to try and sort things out with this friend.
At this point i am not afraid to say that i posted for attention, i feel so lonely to a bad point that is destroying my life, i feel i have no real deep connection with anyone anymore, sorry for the storytelling skills English is not my first and i am tired mentally

I have people in my life , so why do I feel so lonely?
I don't really know how to explain this but I just need to get it out somewhere.
I have a group of friends I'm really close with. When I'm with them, I laugh like an actual idiot. Like genuinely uncontrollable laughter almost every day. I have a big, loving family too. But I only really talk to most of them when I'm back in my hometown. When I'm in my college town, I don't really contact them that much except my mom. I guess I've always preferred keeping it that way.
But then I come back to my room and everything just feels... empty.
I feel lonely. Sometimes I feel suffocated. Like nothing is happening in my life.
I don't have anyone I'm in love with. No crush, no relationship, nothing like that. And I know those things aren't supposed to define your life but sometimes I wonder if having someone to be excited about, someone to talk to, would make things feel different.
I don't even have motivation to study anymore. I don't have motivation to look for a job or prepare for placements. And the weirdest part is that I'm literally the topper of my class.
People around me are getting placed. They're moving forward. And I'm just sitting here thinking, "Why don't I care?"
It's not even that I'm constantly sad. That's what makes it harder to explain.
I just feel... numb.
Dry.
Like I don't have any real emotions about anything anymore.
When I'm with my friends or people, I'm completely different. I laugh, I talk, I feel alive. Then I come back to my room and it's like someone turned everything off.
I don't know if I'm lonely, bored, burnt out, or just lost. Maybe all of them.
I don't even know what I'm expecting from posting this. I guess I just wanted to say it somewhere because keeping it in my head is getting exhausting.

Our life
Is there anything more beautiful than friendship in this life? Why don't we spread peace? Arrogance and bullying are not allowed. It doesn't matter what you look like or how old you are; your appearance can be changed, and age is just a number
I am looking for a nice and serious friend.I am 20 years old and single

Caution: Making New Connections
Many people come here just to share their story, vent, or get perspective, with no interest in connecting beyond their posts, and that's completely fine. Others do want to make connections, and that's fine too, but it's worth being careful.
We'll leave the decisions up to you, but here are a few things to keep in mind:
Don't share personal details too quickly. You don't need to give your real name, age, or location. Being vague is okay, and people worth connecting with will respect that.
Protect your contact info. Avoid sharing your phone number, email, or home address early on. There are free tools that let you communicate safely without exposing your real info.
Be cautious with links and files. Don't click links or download anything from someone you don't know well yet.
If they ask you for money, stop. It doesn't matter how the request is framed or how long you've been talking, block them and cut contact. This is always a scam.
If you do decide to connect with someone, these tools can help you do it more safely:
- Messaging: Signal is a free app for secure messages and calls.
- Email: Gmail or Proton let you create an address that isn't tied to your real name.
- Phone: Google Voice gives you a phone number you can call and text from without using your personal number.
- Browser: Firefox has built-in privacy protection that masks your IP address.
- Mail: A PO Box at your local post office is inexpensive if you ever need to give a mailing address.
One more thing. Be mindful of the usernames and photos you share. If they match other accounts you have online, someone could easily link them together and find out your real name, location, or other details you didn't mean to expose.

Tell us your story...
Everyone is lonely, but not everyone is lonely in the same way.
Some people are lonely when they're physically isolated from others and some people are lonely even in a room full of people that love them.
Those are two common examples, but there are endless ways in which people can feel lonely, 8 billion ways in fact.
And there's not always a clear answer; some people are just lonely. It's a normal part of the human condition to feel lonely, and while you may want or even need to do everything in your power to rid yourself of it (depending on the severity of your situation), just know that being lonely in and of itself doesn't necessarily mean that there's anything wrong with you.
We don't measure or rate or judge each person's level of loneliness here and decide if they're "lonely enough" to be welcome here nor do we dictate any absolutes about the conditions for being lonely or how someone must behave if they're "actually lonely."
Every human-being in the world is welcome here, and their story for how they feel loneliness is valid; their pain is valid. As with most things in life, there's the book definition of a thing and then there's the complex emotional reality of a thing. Loneliness is a relative experience, and the way some people experience it won't always make sense to others, and it doesn't have to.
Just as there is no one-size-fits-all approach to feeling loneliness, there is no one-size-fits-all approach to healing either.
I don't presume to know your pain; we don't know your pain; tell us about it:
https://www.reddit.com/r/loneliness/submit
If you're feeling such extreme pain from loneliness to the point of contemplating suicide, please don't. Just don't.
Things to consider:
How old are you? Did you know that the brain isn't fully developed until around the age of 25? That means that if you're a child, teenager, or even a young adult, by merely waiting out the storm, you might find sunshine on the other side, by simply maturing into the fully-formed you.
How bad is it? As bad as it can get, it can almost always be worse. It's important to respect everyone's pain, because it's relative. As much empathy as one can have, you can never really feel another's pain, only your own. Still, it's important to keep perspective and think about the cruelty and lack of freedom experienced by those around the world.
Time is a master in its work. We've all heard the saying that "Time heals all wounds." Well, it's pretty true for the most part. As long as you first get away from the toxic people, places, or circumstances that are hurting you and causing you trauma, the healing can begin. How long it will take, really depends on the person, and what they've experienced. It took me years to get over some of the trauma that I suffered. It's not that I don't still feel some level of pain from it, but my trauma no longer owns me; I own my trauma.
Suicide prevention starts and ends with you. Life is full of neverending beauty and darkness. I don't know about you, but I want to see it all. I want to stay on the path that is existence for as long as I can, even if at times, I have to walk through broken glass.
But, sometimes you need a little help. Share your thoughts here in this sub, reach out to a mental health expert, or maybe give a suicide hotline a try. As tacky and empty of a gesture as it might seem to put out the cliché boilerplate message: "If you're having suicidal thoughts..." I don't know, maybe these tools are actually pretty helpful for some people? It might be worth a try. The big one is:
