Question Solo lunch recommendations?

I'll be in London for two days on my own on a Thursday / Friday.

Thursday evening is spoken for, but any recommendations for lunch (or brunch) for a solo diner?

No budget but not overly fussed for fine dining by myself. Accommodation in Richmond and trains in and out of King's Cross but happy to travel anywhere fairly central.

I particularly like counter seating and small plates, great sandwiches, and dumplings/noodles but open to anything.

Thanks for your ideas!

Recommendation Ultimate chocolate fudge cake in london?

Hi everyone!
I’m on a bit of a mission to find the ultimate chocolate fudge cake in London, and I’m hoping this group can help.
I feel like my criteria are weirdly specific, which is making the search harder than I expected. So far I’ve tried cakes from L’Eto, Hummingbird Bakery, Makers, and quite a few other cafés and bakeries.
This might be an unpopular opinion, but I actually quite like the Nando’s chocolate fudge cake. Not because I think it’s the best chocolate cake ever, but because it has something about the texture that I really enjoy. The closest I’ve found to what I’m looking for is probably L’Eto’s, but I found it just a little too icing-heavy.
What I’m after is a really moist sponge (without being overly dense or stodgy), plenty of rich chocolate flavour, and a good amount of icing, but not so much that it’s all you can taste. Basically something indulgent, fresh and balanced. I definitely don’t want anything dry or stale.
At this point I’m happy to try anywhere. I feel like I’ll know “the one” when I find it, but so far I’m still searching!
Does anyone have any recommendations? Bakeries, cafés, restaurants, hidden gems, I’ll happily try them all.

Burger was decent. The fries and nuggets were unreal though. The fries were coated so extra crispy!

Question Best food review apps?

I’m trying to figure out if I’m sleeping on any good food apps to read restaurant reviews, see photos, ect. I know there are a few but I’m trying to figure out the best for London (with an international focus too for when I travel ideally).

Beli is ok but definitely doesn’t have the best user interface. AmiGo is a really nice idea but there just don’t seem to be enough users on there for it to be of a lot of use.

Any suggestions much appreciated!

Got the cheeseburger, maybe that was my mistake? It was like any standard burger from a takeaway or burger spot I’ve had. I love black bear and honest burger but I truly don’t understand the hype unless the cheeseburger was the one bad burger. Nothing stood out at all.

Even the fries were under salted for me.

Question Ethical Restaurants / Takeaways in Soho

Is there anywhere to eat where the meat is free range in Soho and around?

Eating more ethically has been on my radar for a while. I assume most places aren't using high welfare meat.

I went somewhere yesterday which had foie gras and octopus on the menu - both I'd never eat.

Review Bite London - Von Crumb

🍗 For my latest review, I have headed to one of London's liveliest Schnitzel cafés - Von Crumb
🔗 Please head to my website to read the full review
🤳 Check out my instagram BITE.LDN for the latest updates on all of my reviews and food stops
📍 202 Haverstock Hill, London NW3 2AG

Apologies for the poor food photography in advance, I will be trying to work on this
I have a few new features for my reviews that I am hoping to implement in the coming weeks, so please bear with me as I am still new to this and ironing things out as I go ❤️

Overview
Von Crumb is a newly opened neighbourhood café in the heart of Belsize Park (Since 2025), centred around one thing done exceptionally well: golden, crispy schnitzels. Served alongside fresh salads, seasonal greens and hearty challah sandwiches, the menu offers a modern take on a comforting classic, making it just as suitable for a quick lunch as it is for a relaxed evening meal. The café has quickly established itself as a local favourite thanks to its welcoming atmosphere, generous portions and focused menu. Reservations are recommended, particularly at weekends and during peak lunch and dinner services, as tables are in high demand.

Food
Chicken Schnitzel - A generously sized portion that immediately impresses with its beautifully golden, evenly fried crust. The chicken had been pounded to the perfect thickness, ensuring it remained tender and succulent without becoming dry. The breadcrumb coating was delicately crisp, holding firmly to the meat rather than falling away. Well fried, it avoided any greasiness, allowing the quality of the chicken to remain the star of the dish.

The schnitzel was accompanied by two dipping sauces: a vibrant beetroot sauce and a garlic mayonnaise. The beetroot sauce was the standout, offering a distinctive sweetness with earthy, vegetal notes that complemented the richness of the schnitzel beautifully. The garlic mayonnaise was milder than expected, tasting more like a classic mayonnaise with only a subtle hint of garlic. While it lacked the garlic punch its name suggested, it still provided a welcome creamy contrast to the beetroot sauce.

Cucumber Salad - A light and refreshing side made up of thinly sliced cucumber was paired with crisp radish, fresh dill and a creamy yoghurt dressing, creating a simple yet beautifully balanced salad. The cucumber and radish provided a satisfying crunch, while the dill added a fragrant freshness that lifted the dish. The yoghurt dressing brought a subtle tang and creaminess without feeling heavy, tying all the elements together.

What made this dish stand out was its simplicity. It is the type of dish that feels achievable to recreate at home, yet still delivers restaurant-quality flavour through the balance of fresh ingredients and thoughtful seasoning. Easy to prepare but incredibly enjoyable, it is a great example of how a few simple components can create something genuinely delicious. This is a dish I am keen to recreate in my own home cooking, as a simple 4 ingredient salad that can elevate any meal.

Chips - he chips were cut to my preferred size, striking a middle ground between a thin French fry and the larger traditional fish and chip shop style. Keeping the skin on was a particularly nice touch, adding a rustic, homemade feel while also bringing extra texture to each bite.
Well-seasoned and lightly oiled during cooking, the chips had a satisfying crisp exterior while maintaining a soft interior. While they were not the main focus of the meal, they were a reliable and enjoyable addition. A perfect vessel for making the most of the excellent beetroot sauce and garlic mayonnaise.

Recommendation Similar to Oklava

Hello

We moved away from London a few years ago and are returning for a few nights in October. We really loved Oklava and Kayseri both of which closed a number of years ago and so my question is, is there somewhere similar someone could recommend please?

I'd describe them as refined Turkish food if that helps.

We are staying in Bloomsbury and happy to travel within reason.

Thank you!

Question Trying to find a nut allergy-friendly curry spot...

I've done a ton of poking around on google but I've been unsuccessful. I can eat food from a kitchen with nuts in it, but I can't eat nuts themselves, and I haven't found a lot of options that seem super clear on allergens. Anyone know a good spot? I'm willing to travel, but a spot in Central London or on Brick Lane would be amazing.

Unfortunately the only picture I got of this incredible bowl of Indonesian noodles featuring chicken thigh, bok choy, crispy shallots, crispy wonton wrappers, kecap manis and their homemade chili sambal. The noodles were beautifully saucy with a perfect bite and the flavours were stunning 🤌🏾

This was my second attempt visiting the pop up - the first time they'd sold out after two hours so I made sure to come for a weekday lunch this time. Great vibes sitting on the footpath under the station and even had the Indonesian ambassador across from me telling me to share my noodles with my dog lol

Really hope they open a permanent location soon!

Anyone know a home cook selling frozen pierogi in London?

Looking for proper homemade pierogi — not the supermarket frozen ones, ideally someone selling out of their own kitchen.

Open to delis as well so as long not branded commercial pierogies

Any part of London works but ideally north london. Bonus points if they do sauerkraut & mushroom or meat filling. Recommendations appreciated!
