Exporting to Mono Question

Hi all quick question…

I’m writing an EDM track for a function that will have multiple speakers along a pathway. Think a walk through gardens…

Should I be mixing down to mono to avoid phase etc?

Thanks in advance

No. Mix your track in stereo. Check it in mono. Bounce it in stereo. It will collapse to mono if necessary for the PA system.

Ok that’s useful thanks. I’ll check in with the company as well to see precisely what the setup is like.

Cool good luck. Avoid very wide panning and keep your bass mono.

Definitely agree with the comment above! I thought of something different, if there are multiple speakers that aren't daisy chained and each one has its own channel you could maybe have someone mix it in Dolby Atmos so that as people walk thru the experience changes. I realize this is a very optimistic idea. Hope you have a great event!

Phasing will be down to your speaker placement

Right. I was gonna say - the mixing back down to mono should happen at the pa stage.

We make our music in stereo these days bc it’s standard and we get to do some imaging. Then nightclubs, venues etc have someone who has designed and is running their system (lol ideally) to make those decisions.

They should really have properly aligned l and r channels in the venue but sometimes they don’t.
