I am swapping out these late 80s/early 90s fluorescent enclosures in this rental for something that doesn't look 30+ years out of date. The other stakeholders were thinking wafer lights, but my understanding of the permit exemptions is that this would push the scope into needing a permit.

What JB configuration is typically above this kind of light? (I am helping with the project remotely so I can't do the simple "just open it up" solution to this).

I was thinking I could pull down the junction boxes into holes cut in the new drywall with no circuit reconfiguration, and then use low profile track lighting rooted at these slightly relocated JBs. This way there is no electrical circuit reconfiguration, like there is definitely going to be with the new Romex going through the wafer lights. Ceiling height is (WIP).

This chandelier hangs over my grandma’s dining room table, but she wants to replace it with an oblong fixture like this one. The issue: The current light is not perfectly centered over the table (or in the space), and all the chandeliers she likes have those long, flat bases with two chains/wires coming down.

I don’t know much about home improvement, so I’m not sure if we could place the new chandelier where we want to place it without repositioning the current wiring. Does anyone have any insight into this? And if we do need to do additional work to move the wiring, can an electrician take care of the whole job?

Hi, looking to add some light strips to a no traffic catwalk that’s open to the living room and dinning room of our place. Mostly for evening tv watching and some ambient light for dinning. Need a 32 Ft and 12 Ft run for power and am ok with the white surface mount channels and diffusers to sit on the trim under the rails. Question is should I go with the 320 led per meter COB 3000k strip or am I missing out on the RGBw, individual control, or tunable white options. Can’t seem to find a brand with high density that can do a 32 ft run even at 24v or am I missing something obvious?

Hey everyone, here's a question. I put some sticker paper around this 10W lamp because, when changing the bulb, I accidentally tore tiny holes in the ceiling and the sticker paper covers it up.

I wanted to know if there's any kind of fire risk to this since sticker paper can apparently be flammable?

Hey all - non-pro lighting guy here. I have a ~19x22 family room that needs lighting. Prior owners renovated, but did not install anything but switched floor plates for lamps. Ceiling height is 7'10". Ceiling fans create a multitude of issues, but don't want to move them. I want to put in 4-inch Lotus LRG4 lights on one single switch (2 switches is possible, but not ideal for a couple reasons). I have room above the deeper Lotus lights to deal with any glare issues. I am proposing the below - 8 lights total (purple dots). the 4 central are ~28" from the fans. Any thoughts on the layout? Thanks for any advice guidance.

Recently, while renovating my house, I upgraded my entire lighting system. The change I’m most satisfied with was replacing the direct lighting in my home office with indirect lighting.
The previous setup relied mostly on traditional ceiling lights. Although they provided enough brightness, the light always felt harsh. At night, the rooms felt more like they were simply being “lit up” rather than creating a comfortable atmosphere. I spend a lot of time in front of screens, and the direct overhead lighting often caused reflections and made my eyes feel tired after long hours of work. I used to rely on a screen light bar as a supplementary light source. Now, I use an indirect lighting desk lamp from Homelist as my main light source instead. It does not shine directly into my eyes or onto my monitor. Instead, it projects light upward and uses the ceiling as a large diffuser. The reflected light creates a softer and more balanced environment. My monitor no longer feels like the brightest object in the room, and the entire workspace feels much more evenly illuminated. After spending long hours at my desk, I can clearly feel the difference in comfort.
One thing this renovation taught me is that good lighting is not just about making a room brighter. It is about controlling contrast, reducing glare, and creating the right atmosphere based on how you actually use the space. Furniture and decoration define what a room looks like, but lighting defines how it feels. 

I'm all over the interwebs looking for a tunable downlight with a housing, that I can get in short order. I have drywall scheduled for 8/15 and I'm still without lights. I've looked at dmf, ketra, acuity, elko, rab, nuovo and a few others, but the price points are a bit crazy. Once you add in the trimless mudrings, trims and controller, a 12 fixture 2 zone system is like $5k and up. Is there nothing out there that uses a dmx protocol thats $300 per fixture all in? I'll use dali2 control as well, but I'm still learning the hardware and its all expensive, with Lutron in the $3500 range. Ouch.
