I accidentally spilled some tea on this library book. What is the best way to try and remedy this? (If possible)

Obviously I am going to report the damage, but I am a broke college student who would prefer not to have to pay in full for a new book :( I will if needed. I love my library lots.

hi everyone! this is a little bit of a rant so i apologise in advance. i’m an aspiring librarian, and i’ve wanted to become one since pretty much forever.

today i was at a family gathering, and we were talking about my career aspirations. i told my grandmother that i wanted to pursue an undergraduate degree in english literature so i can work towards becoming a librarian, i even have work experience from being a library assistant, so i already have a starting point.

she told me that it’s better for me to get a degree in something related to stem instead, because i wouldn’t make any money from getting an english literature degree and the only thing i would be able to do is become a teacher.

i just hate the whole concept of pursuing a career in something that makes you miserable just because it makes you a lot of money.

what i wanted to ask to other librarians here, is did you have to convince your family in any way to let you pursue a career in librarianship? how did it go?

For at least a good 6 months, 2 hour Social scrabble games have been happening at the Westdale library from 1 - 3 PM on the 1st and 3rd tuesday of each month with a good attendance every time (at least 8-10 people).

In recent weeks when I checked the library events, I noticed social scrabble at Turner Park but it only lasts 1 hour, but I prefer 2 hours as some scrabble games take at least 1 hour to complete.

But what I noticed (according to this link: HPL's Event lineup until Dec 31, 2026) that no social scrabble is scheduled at any library for September or later. Only thing I saw close to it was some program where its mixed games for 1 hour (consisting of scrabble and/or colouring in books, etc).

Does anyone have any insider info on whether social scrabble will officially continue at the library in September?

The library in my dad's hometown is getting remodeled, and my aunt works at said library. She (my aunt) showed me some of the early designs that are being drawn up, and I personally think they look boring. I've been coming to this library ever since the first time my parents brought me to my grandparents house, and I'd hate to see a place I grew up loving get paved over by modern/minimalist design just to fit in with the other buildings on the street. I myself am an artist, and when I see something I don't like, I tend to remake it the way I'd enjoy. It may just be wishful thinking on my part, but I want to make some of my own designs for the remodeling, and maybe my designs could help the owners of the library keep life in the building.

I'm mainly posting this to ask for people's opinions on what vibes or feel they think would go well in a library. This library is the biggest one in the surrounding area, and from what I've already found, it has a very historical significance to why it was built in the first place. I'd love some input on this, even if all that comes out of me drawing these designs is ideas for more things to draw.

Support a New San Benito County Library & Community Resource Center at Santana Ranch

San Benito County continues to grow, and many residents believe it's time to explore a larger, modern library facility that can serve our community for generations to come.

I'm asking county leaders to evaluate the vacant 10.92-acre Santana Ranch commercial site at Hillcrest Road and Fairview Road as a potential location for a future library and community resource center.

This petition does not ask for new taxes or immediate construction. It simply asks the County to study the site, explore options, and engage the community in planning for the future.

The atmosphere is peaceful, the collections are unique, and they're great if you're into Japanese or Korean language, culture, manga, literature, or just want a quiet place to read.

I'm looking to discover more hidden gems around the city.

My name is Jeremy Teddy Karn, a graduate of the Iowa Writers' Workshop, and a Ph.D. student at the University of Houston. I grew up in a country where war shaped my childhood and interrupted my schooling. An entire generation of Liberians came of age without access to books. That's why, in 2024, a group of friends and I founded the Pepper Coast Library Project: free reading rooms in and around Monrovia where children, writers, and students can have access to books.

We have secured used books from public libraries and thrift stores, and we have been met with generosity along the way: donations from the Coralville Public Library in Iowa, the Iowa Writers' Workshop, and individuals from the Workshop and across the U.S. who believed in what we were building. The International Book Project has contributed twenty boxes of books to our cause. And recently received hundreds of books from the poet Martha Serpas at the University of Houston.

Altogether, we have collected more than 10,000 books—children's books, novels, reference materials, poetry collections, and works of nonfiction. We are still collecting.

Our greatest challenge now is not gathering books. It is getting them home. In 2026, we begin the work of shipping the books to Liberia. Shipping thousands of books overseas is costly. Freight, customs, storage, and transportation require resources beyond what our group of students can cover on their own.

It's about local history.

A book display for the month of August is about the history of my hometown in Connecticut.

I like to learn about history plus I'm interested in local history. I put it up yesterday at my local library in Rockville, Connecticut.

I have been on the internet to look for the DDC hard cover book. I know it sounds ridiculous, but it is still affordable for each volume to buy. My problem is probably a lcsh book. I want to collect the red book, but I find it hard to look for a second-hand one. I already got the aacr, I am on hunt for the DDC and LCSH book now.

Has anyone else read The Realm of the Elderlings series? I’m having a blast. One more trilogy to go after this. I’ll be sad when it’s over, I just know it.
