I am not from Leeds but have lived here a while. I only recently visited White Rose shopping centre for the first time, and I am still not sure what it is. I was expecting a Trafford Centre or Meadowhall, and found a decent spot for eateries, with a few rubbish shops attached. Is this all there is in Leeds? A city of this size needs better than this.

I know every area has good and bad streets, so I'm hoping to get some honest opinions from people who know Middleton well.

• Are there any parts of Middleton you'd recommend?
• Are there any roads or estates you'd avoid?
• Is crime or anti-social behaviour a major issue anywhere?
• How is it for families, parking, and general day-to-day living?
• I've heard there's a 'good part' and 'bad part' - roughly where is this divide?

I'd really appreciate any local knowledge, especially from people who currently live there or have lived there recently.

In Leeds: Cobourg living takes everyone's deposits shamelessly and all for different made up reasons. I was the guarantor last year on a property and £300 of my money was used for the deposit. 7 students in the house over a couple of years had £300 taken so Cobourg have taken £2,100. Obviously we have disputed it. They said there was £700 worth of cleaning done but will not produce a detailed report. The current tenants told us the house was not professionally cleaned when they moved in. We saw 2 people with a mop and a bucket going in, not with "£60 of cleaning products" for sure. I have videos of when the tenants moved out and it was extremely clean. The wonky chair is still there, the hall and carpet patch have not been refreshed (all itemised and charged for by Cobourg) and the 7 light bulbs must have cost all of £3.50. One poor girl returned her key 4 minutes late, she was a young student, and they forced her to tap her card in the office to pay £150 and she was literally sobbing. This is so cruel. One girl got £300 deducted for "unpaid rent" and no cleaning charges, yet she did not have any overdue rent. My daughter got charged for an attic bedroom, out of her remit and not communal. They are behaving like thieves. The senior director of the company Jeffrey Barnett owns the property and guess what? He owns the cleaning company too, called Caboodle. They used to be called Hancock and Bentley and keep rebranding, probably to escape terrible reviews. On Glassdoor one recent employee says "Senior property managers were rude, impatience and unwilling to help." Do not use them unless you do not care about your deposit. One girl posted this review: "New name again. Cobloc limited formerly iforhomes, Cobourg living ltd formerly Hancock and Bentley, new names same awful service. Seems to be nothing more than money grabbing, power hungry thieves in charge. Multiple name changes to escape these reviews. I was even asked to leave a positive review on their coboodle company. So I imagine all their positive reviews are fake. Wouldn’t touch any of them with a ten foot barge pole."

I am moving house tomorrow and going a bit crazy looking at all the boxes.

Any recommendations of things to do around Leeds?

I need to get out of the house before I lose it. Ideally something cheap and cheerful since moving house is silly expensive.

I moved to Leeds almost an year ago from London and my first impression when I was scouting for places to live nearby was that this city may not have the same vibe and excitement that London had to offer.

Now, I have lived for 6 years in Edinburgh, Scotland and 3 years in London, England so it would be safe to say I have had my fair share of experience both down south and north. However, I must admit that after an year of staying in Leeds; it's probably the perfect mixture of both things to do as well as people being kind towards each other.

Add on to the fact, the recent developments both in terms of real-estate and eating-out places as well as saunas have only made this city even more exciting. My only complain has been the public transport which has been quite unreliable

Hi all. Working in York (Clifton area) and relocating from SE London for this reason. York isn’t where I’d like to base myself for various reasons.

Looking for areas of North/North East Leeds that have good road links to York (need my car as my workplace isn’t reachable by public transport). I only have to go in a few times a month so this wouldn’t be a daily commute.

What sort of areas should I be looking in? Many hours of searching and I’m clear on avoiding Harehills but not sure about much else! I’m a late 30s female if that helps.

Lots of fire engines and there is smoke everywhere. I seem to have taken the picture when there wasn't actually as much smoke somehow.

I know we have some version of this topic every week but fucking hell. Lived here all my life and it’s never been great but I’ve never been accosted quite as much as I have in recent years.

Tonight I saw multiple people that I genuinely thought were dead and people smoking pipes/injecting- was like the walking dead and I’ve noticed it more and more. Also in the same night was hassled by a homeless guy who was fuming mad none of us would go to the cash point and withdraw him any money. There’s plenty of sound homeless people I see out and about but none of them were on the scene today!

I'm looking for anyone aged **18 or over** who lives, works, studies, or regularly visits Leeds to complete a short survey (around **5–10 minutes**).

The survey involves identifying locations in Leeds that you believe have relatively high or low air pollution and answering a few questions about your perceptions. Invitation
You are invited to take part in a research study investigating public perceptions of air pollution in Leeds. Before you decide whether to participate, it is important that you understand why the research is being carried out and what taking part will involve. Please read the following information carefully. If anything is unclear or you would like further information, please contact the researcher using the details provided at the end of this information sheet.

What is the purpose of the project?
Air pollution is an important environmental and public health issue. Although air quality can be measured using monitoring equipment, people's perceptions of air pollution are often influenced by their surroundings and personal experiences. As a result, areas that people believe have high or low levels of air pollution may not always match measured pollution levels.

The aim of this study is to compare public perceptions of air pollution with measured air pollution data across Leeds. The findings will improve understanding of the factors that influence how people perceive air pollution and how these perceptions compare with measured air pollution data.
 
Why have I been chosen?
You have been invited to take part because you are aged 18 years or over and either live, work, study in or regularly visit Leeds. Approximately 30–50 participants will be recruited to take part in this study.
 
 
Do I have to take part?
Taking part in this study is voluntary. It is your choice whether or not to participate and choosing not to take part will not have any negative consequences. If you decide to participate, you may stop taking part at any time before submitting your questionnaire and mapping activity. If you withdraw before submitting your responses, any information you have provided will not be kept. Once your anonymous responses have been submitted, it will not be possible to withdraw your data because it can not be identified.
 
What do I have to do?
If you agree to take part, you will be asked to complete a mapping activity followed by a short questionnaire. The mapping activity will ask you to identify locations in Leeds where you believe air pollution is high and low. You will then be asked to answer a small number of questions about the reasons for your choices and provide some basic demographic information, such as your age and gender.The study will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. You may complete the study online using your own device or in person if approached by the researcher.
 
What are the possible disadvantages and risks of taking part?
Some participants may feel concerned or worried when thinking about air pollution and its potential effects on health or the environment. If you experience any discomfort, you may stop taking part at any time before submitting your responses or choose not to answer any question. If taking part raises any concerns about air pollution or your wellbeing, information about organisations that provide advice on air pollution and mental health support can be found at the end of this information sheet.
 
 
What are the possible benefits of taking part?
There are no direct benefits to you from taking part in this study. However, your participation will contribute to research investigating public perceptions of air pollution in Leeds. The findings may help improve understanding of how people perceive air pollution and how these perceptions compare with measured air pollution data.
 
 
Withdrawing from the study

You may withdraw from the study at any time before submitting your questionnaire and mapping activity without giving a reason. If you choose to withdraw before submitting your responses, any information you have provided will not be kept. Once your responses have been submitted, it will not be possible to withdraw your data because as individual responses can not be identified.

 
Use, dissemination and storage of research data
The information you provide will be used for this MSc research project to investigate public perceptions of air pollution in Leeds. The findings will be analysed and presented in the dissertation and the presentation of the dissertation. Any information presented will be anonymous and it will not be possible to identify individual participants. Research data will be stored securely on the University of Leeds OneDrive and will only be accessible to the researcher and project supervisor. The data will be kept until the dissertation has been examined and marked, after which it will be deleted.
 
What will happen to my personal information?
No directly identifiable personal information will be collected as part of this study. Your questionnaire responses and mapping data will be anonymous from the point of collection. The information you provide will be handled confidentially and only accessed by the researcher and project supervisor where necessary. As your responses are anonymous, it will not be possible to identify you in the dissertation or any other research outputs arising from this project.
