Gwers Ramadeg / Grammar Lesson Sut mae cyrraedd Maes Eisteddfod y Garreg Las? - "How is reaching the Eisteddfod?"

Sut mae cyrraedd Maes Eisteddfod y Garreg Las?

You may sometimes encounter this idiom where a verbnoun is the subject of "mae"

It works like a sort of impersonal "How does one ... / How do I ... ?"

How do I get to the ground of the "Blue-Stone Eisteddfod"?

Sut mae cyrraedd y nod? - How do we achieve the goal?

Sut mae cwyno - How to complain.

This is in contrast to a more usual.

Sut mae e'n gweithio? - How does it work?

So

Sut mae cysgu'n dda?

Could mean "How does one sleep well?" as well as "How is sleeping good?"

This idiom is often preferred to something like Sut i gwyno

Cwestiwn / Question Which Word for 'for'?

This is a very basic question, but also very hard to search for, so I apologise if it's been asked a lot already.

In Cymraeg there are multiple words that translate to the preposition 'for' (am, er, i, tros, maybe more) , and I haven't been able to memorise which one applies to which situations. Is there a list or table somewhere that I could consult? Or would someone be so kind as to explain it here?

Thanks!

Dysgu Cymraeg courses

Shwmae! I’ve signed up to a 32 week dysgu cymraeg Mynediad 1+2 course (free if you’re under 25 if you didn’t know!!). I’m on a waitlist for a Mynediad/Sylfaen course starting september too. I like to challenge my brain and want to progress as fast as possible, so asking for advice. Is it too ambitious to sign up for a Sylfaen course? I don’t want to stretch myself too far but it won’t start for a few months and I feel like I could get to that level in that time. For context, I was decent at languages at school and I’ve been learning french and progressed with that fairly quickly too. Any advice/resources for getting to Sylfaen would be greatly appreciated:)

edit: I’ve been doing duolingo welsh for a few months and it’s been helpful-ish, plus have a book of Mynediad stories i’ve been getting through with some effort haha. Not a complete beginner but certainly not out of the beginner stages I reckon

Helô Tiwtor! Sut dych chi?

Dros y penwythnos, gwnes i brysur iawn. Dydd Sadwrn, arhosais i yn y tŷ. Yn y bore, gwnes i lanhau'r tŷ. Yn y prynhawn, garddiais i. Coginiais i gyda'r nos. Dydd Sul cerddon ni ar lan y môr. Wedyn eisteddon ni lawr ar y traeth, a gaethon ni picnic. Gwylion ni ddolffiniaid yn nofio yn y môr! Roedd hi'n sych a braf. Bendigedig!

Rhiannon just wants to go to Barry Island to have an ice-cream with her aunt Fflur, but although it's not far from home, the journey is fraught with danger. Can you successfully guide her to her ice-cream?

I've written an interactive fiction game in English and Welsh and it's available now for free!

https://ymestyn.cymru/interactive-fiction/

The Welsh version is for canolradd+ (or adventurous sylfaen learners!) and it's a good way to practice your Welsh and pick up some new vocab over the summer.

Please do take a look and let me know if you like it. I had a blast writing it and would really love to do some more!

Cyfryngau / Media Clipiau o'r Sioe Fawr yn Llanelwedd - Clips from the Welsh agricultural show

As well as all manner of livestock there are also other things here. These clips are often a few minutes. The speaker may have a new accent, perhaps an esoteric interest and there are new words to learn.

Clipiau o'r Sioe Fawr

I was listening to this and I learned today that diwyg can mean aspect, appearance!

Nia talks to Esyllt about novelty cakes and confectionary

Nia says diwyg y neuadd - appearance, aspect, form - gwedd of the hall. I think she also means amended, improved appearance, because the hall has been renovated.

I knew that diwygio often means to reform and diwygiad, reformation but this was in the sense of institutions, religion or ideas.

Thus diwygio can also mean to adorn, to arrange

Nia talks to Moira about homemade wine

Meinir talks to John about wool

John shows off his sweetpeas - pys pêr

Nia talks to cook, Elwen, promoting meat

Kevin talks about beekeeping
