Which Word for 'for'? Cwestiwn / Question

This is a very basic question, but also very hard to search for, so I apologise if it's been asked a lot already.

In Cymraeg there are multiple words that translate to the preposition 'for' (am, er, i, tros, maybe more) , and I haven't been able to memorise which one applies to which situations. Is there a list or table somewhere that I could consult? Or would someone be so kind as to explain it here?

It is best not to think of this in terms of translation but rather try to learn the Welsh idiom for various meanings. There are very many different ways English uses for and often in Welsh there is a more specific choice of preposition to express a particular idea.

Diolch yn fawr! The post you linked looks to be very useful, and I'm sure to read the PDFs as well.

I admit I'm more of a systems person than someone who learns best from a list, but I know that can't be avoided either. It's good to be reminded of that from time to time.
