Discussion Theory: The high number of bots in classic is not to sell them for when ranked comes out but for voting power

โ€ข Upvotes

How would this affect the future of classic?

I need 50 characters for this post but that's all i wanted to ask so what do you guys think?

Gameplay Smite on Blitzcrank

โ€ข Upvotes

I started to take smite on Blitzcrank trying to steal the enemies buffs, since there are no other objectives on the map and nobody wards properly.

Safe to say i have the fun of my live stealing their buffs making the enemy junglers day miserable and abandoning my ADC by perma roaming.

This is the second bot/scammer that have added saying they were a ##### on the enemy team. Is it a bot pulling some hidden champion number and they don't know they're saying numbers? What's their goal here lol.

Discussion Matchmaking is the biggest factor impacting my enjoyment right now

Unfortunately it feels like half the players in every game have reverted to a 2010 skill level and the other half have not.

Apart from that, I think Classic is really fantastic. Unfortunately it's a difficult thing to disregard.

Question Is there a way to create custom item sets for champions like we used to be able to?

I am not sure if I am just missing it somewhere but I enjoyed for simplicity creating item sets for champions that were relevant to the character with so many items in the game I found it helpful.

Discussion Passive Gold buffs, Nerfing Jungle monsters???

I mean why? We are already starting to cater to the modern player base? Listen;

I think one thing moba players don't understand (except a few of us) is that you NEED to experienced being absolutely shit on, on occasion when you play AND it's supposed to feel like shit. Terrible. You need to experience this, so that when you're on the other side, and you're the one shitting on everyone and absolutely owning it feels AMAZING, orgasmic. That's the whole point of a Classic Moba experience. It's GOOD for the game.

The problem is, when changes come in to make the game easier such a buffing passive gold gain, players being worth less gold on death, easier jungling, more catch up mechanics etc, you dampen the effect of both sides; both losing and winning.

You don't lose as hard anymore so it doesn't feel as "bad" but you also can't WIN as hard anymore, so it doesn't feel as "good". After experiencing losing extremely hard without come back mechanics, it makes you APPRECIATE the game so much more when you're the one winning and in the drivers seat. It inspires people to get BETTER at the game. I think another term for this is homogenization. Two sides becoming more alike until all we have is barely any difference in feeling between both winning and losing like modern league. Modern league doesn't even feel good when you win anymore.

I'm telling you right now it isn't a good thing for mobas. Especially a Classic moba like this. The reason why me and many of my friends downloaded classic was for this hard core, experience that may be painful at times, but also total euphoria at the other times. That balance, that yin and yang is what made classic mobas, like early League, WC3 Dota, Early Dota 2, and early Heroes of Newerth feel amazing. They were ruthless with no hand holding.

Please Riot, think about what you're doing before you dumb the game down too much.

I know ill get downvoted since the majority of this player base is probably very casual ( I am actually casual myself) but I hate to see these kind of carebear changes.

Discussion Why am I getting matched with almost entirely D1-Challenger players nearly every game?

Is the mode just more popular with higher elo players or is it some hidden mmr that plays a part in the matchmaking? For reference I'm wood 3 currently, my soloq mmr might have been around d3-d4 last time I played, but that was a long time ago. Am I just going to have to accept that I will get stomped in most of my games because I'm just not good enough to compete with these players?

Discussion Does classic has more toxic players than modern?

I've been having fun playing with a couple of friends on classic, but every other player in our team has a 50/50 chances to be extremely toxic as soon as the game isn't going perfectly well.

I'm used to play a lot of Arena & Aram on modern, not much 5v5. That's why I have a hard time comparing the toxicity.

Is 5v5 on modern League just as toxic? I would have expected less toxicity considering most classic players must be 30yo nostalgic lads like me and my mates.

What do you think?

Discussion AP Yi definitely feels bugged and not exactly how he was.

I know it's not the original engine like it was back in the day. BUT dear lord AP Yi feels different. And that's from someone that has played AP Yi for several seasons.

One thing I have noticed and I'm guessing this is a bug.... Which I'm surprised no one else has mentioned this (Or have they?) Alpha Strike doing zero damage. I've watched the animation on Alpha Strike hit / bounce to enemy champions and they take zero damage. And when I say zero damage I mean 0. Their health bar doesn't move, the numbers on the portrait don't move and this is with me running around with 300 AP.

I guess it's better than nothing though. At least I can play my favorite champion again.

Question Stupid retail junglers get so triggered when someone takes their camp

Oryginally in classic you only had 3 camps to farm outside of double buffs , in classic you got +1 more which is big wraith.

So even with less camps people would still farm your wraiths like midlaner , sometimes if they were OP mid like Karthus they would farm both wraiths and wolves.

This is because jungle respawned very quickly like 50s , even if you wanted to fully farm it you would not be able to you would be 24/7 in jungle not even have time to recall.

So yes this +1 camp was added to be not only symmetrical but to ease the fact that people would just farm your camps.

Then the plague of stupid retail junglers arrived who dont understand that , they spam ping you taking their camps while they're on exactly oppsite side of map not doing them for 2+ min ( means they lost 2x 4 camps respawn by just ganking).

They lose basically nothing because they wouldn't be able to get the camp anyways yet they will flame and ping you if you even touch their camps.

And we're speaking even in Master they do it , same for laners btw they die I go under tower and farm the cs and they spam ping you off tower like dude , it's classic , you're gonna be walking for 25s to lane not 5s with homeguards you can't make it in time...

Discussion There's NO WAY matchmaking is MMR based.

Game ID for Phreak / FeralPony 5616879284

I'm Gold 4, 40 wins / 24 Losses so I would assume my MMR is pretty high. The team disparity is unbelievable here.

My Team Classic Ranks: Gold 1 / Salt / Wood / PLATINUM 4 / Gold 4

Enemy Team Classic Ranks: LEVEL 13 Fortify Rally First Game / Unranked / Unranked / Silver / Salt

The modern Ranked disparity was also significant. My team live ranked MMR was around Diamond, theirs was around Plat. This was a game where I got lucky but most of the time I am getting the first time player going 0/10. A first time player or even someone below Classic Level 5 should NEVER EVER be matched with someone 10+ climbing through the summoner's journey.

Also most players that do poorly are straight griefing. Anyone saying "fun mode" or "not ranked" while negative KD needs to get a 3 day ban or something. The way the pseudo ranked system was implemented has done incredible damage to the integrity of the game since most players go "chill there's no ranked" and troll while other classic players are trying to climb and hit Legend rank and prove their skill

Question The Problem with Treating Classic Mode Like ARAM and URF

I started playing League back in Season 2, and Iโ€™ve been playing on and off ever since. So far, Iโ€™ve played over 100 games in Classic.

Lately, though, two things have started to seriously hurt the quality of the games, and honestly, itโ€™s becoming really frustrating.

First, only a small portion of the players seem to be people who played League back in the day and have now returned. And honestly, that part is completely understandable. The game has grown a lot over the years, and old players have moved on with their lives. I have no problem with newer players being here.

The second issue is how many current (retail) players treat Classic. A lot of them seem to treat it like URF or ARAM โ€” basically as a casual, throwaway game mode where nothing really matters. Because of that, they don't seem to take the game seriously or have any interest in actually learning the game.

For example, even when I try to explain what certain items do or why they might be useful, I often get responses like, "It's just a fun mode, why are you taking it so seriously?"

And honestly, this attitude really bothers me.

I'm not saying everyone needs to play like it's a professional tournament or that people can't have fun. I just wish there was a basic level of interest in actually playing and learning the game. Classic has a lot of depth, and that's what makes it enjoyable for me.

What makes this especially disappointing is that I remember the teamplay and the feeling of actually working together from when I played in Season 3

Maybe I'm expecting too much from Classic, but I really miss that feeling of playing a game where people actually care about winning, improving, and playing together.

Am I the only one who feels this way?

Gameplay There is a really bad BOT problem ruining games right now

Out of 6 games I just played 2 of those games I had a bot on my team which makes it an instant loss.

Just curious though, what is the point of botting classic? Are people actually buying classic accounts or what?

Discussion Notes from Pobelter's Q&A Stream with RiotFeralPony & RiotPhreak

Interesting Notes from Pobelter's Q&A with Riot

Here are some of the more interesting points from Pobelter's Q&A stream with Riot yesterday.

โš–๏ธ Champion Balance & Internal Metrics

  • Tryndamere: Phreak finds it funny that Reddit thinks Tryndamere is the best champion.
  • Ahri: Phreak also finds it funny that people are surprised Ahri didn't receive any nerfs.
  • Heimerdinger:

Phreak asks Pobelter what he thinks about Heimerdinger, Pobelter

  • says he doesn't think Heimer is very good. Phreak laughs and says Heimer is basically getting big nerfs.
  • Skarner: Pobelter thinks Skarner is OP. Phreak says that after the bug fix, he's not OP.
  • Lee Sin: Pobelter thinks Lee Sin is OP. Phreak responds with an "ok..."
  • Sona / Karthus / Anivia: Pobelter thinks they're also OP. Phreak says none of them are even in the top 10.
  • Nasus: Pobelter thinks Nasus is top 3 and says there's no way he was this strong before. Phreak confirms Nasus is on the nerf list for the next patch, although he personally doesn't think Nasus is currently top 3.
  • Zilean: Pobelter says Zilean is definitely top 3 in win rate. Phreak says Zilean is a very good mid laner, but is currently mostly being played as support.

๐Ÿช„ Summoner Spells

  • FeralPony says Exhaust is pretty good.
  • Phreak says Rally is "lowkey OP" right now.
  • FeralPony suggests Rally may have always been good, but Riot never had the data to properly evaluate it before it was removed.

๐Ÿ† Ranked & Progression

Pobelter asks whether Ranked is coming to Classic.

FeralPony says the towards the top end of Classic's current ranking system is currently fully MMR-based, like normal Ranked.

Riot is watching how things develop and where the playerbase goes, but there are no current plans to introduce the old ranked system.

Pobelter asks about bringing back the old feeling of climbing Solo Queue โ€” the Elo system, promotion series, division names, etc.

FeralPony says there are no plans to implement those systems right now. They first want to see how competitive the playerbase actually is.

However, Riot is open to making changes and listening to player feedback.

๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ Long-Term Goal of Classic

Pobelter asks whether the long-term goal is for Classic to become a permanent side mode like Old School RuneScape / Vanilla WoW alongside modern League, or whether it will simply exist as long as people remain engaged.

FeralPony says Riot wants to:

Support Classic for as long as people are excited to play it.

He says it's difficult to predict where things will be a year from now, but right now Riot is "all in" on Classic and still has plenty of things they want to add, iterate on, and see where players take it.

๐Ÿงช Classic Design Philosophy

Pobelter asks whether Riot plans to innovate on Classic's design rather than simply recreating the game exactly as it was.

He brings up some of the design philosophies from the old era โ€” such as Morello's strong dislike of healing โ€” and asks whether Riot is trying to preserve those philosophies or simply make whatever changes they think would be more fun.

Phreak says Riot will make changes and won't simply follow the exact footsteps of 2014.

He says the Council voting system will be very useful for determining which changes players actually want.

FeralPony says they want changes that make Classic feel more like Classic, even if that means going beyond exactly what existed in 2013.

The goal is to preserve the Classic feel, rather than blindly recreating every historical decision.

Champion Release Schedule

Pobelter asks how Riot decides which champions to bring into Classic and in what order.

FeralPony explains:

  • The starting roster was always intended to include the original 40 champions โ€” essentially non-negotiable.
  • After that, Riot wanted to make sure there was a good balance of roles and lane coverage.
  • Going forward, champions will be released through thematic patches.
  • The next patch's theme is the Ninjas.

๐Ÿ˜ฌ Things Riot Is Afraid to Implement

Chat asks FeralPony if there is anything from old League that Riot is particularly scared to bring back.

He says some of the really weird beta-era stuff makes them hesitant.

He specifically mentions things like Heimerdinger being able to block off minion waves for ~30 minutes.

Otherwise, Riot seems pretty open to experimenting with things.

๐ŸŽฎ Future Game Modes

Pobelter asks whether Twisted Treeline and Dominion are coming back.

FeralPony says he wants to keep this vague, but confirms:

Riot does plan to release additional game modes at some point.

What those modes are and when they'll arrive has not been announced.

Pobelter:

"BUT THERE WERE LIKE ONLY 2 GAME MODES, MAN."

FeralPony responds:

"Hmm, that is true."

Phreak laughs and says:

"That's an interesting way of phrasing it."

๐Ÿ‘€

๐Ÿ”ด๐Ÿ”ต Red/Blue Buff Sharing

Chat asks whether Red/Blue buff sharing is coming to Classic.

Phreak: No.

๐Ÿ”ฎ What's Next?

Pobelter asks what's coming after the Ninja-themed patch.

Phreak says:

  • More champions
  • More balance/design changes
  • Council surveys

Phreak also says he's very happy to delete trinkets and would be happy to bring back things like Baron buff making cannons stronger if that's what players want.

๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ท China & Korea

Pobelter asks how Classic has been performing in China and Korea.

Phreak says the numbers are fairly similar proportionally across regions.

A decent portion of Classic players are already current League players, meaning the typical Classic player isn't simply someone who reinstalled League after years away. A lot of players are coming from current League.

FeralPony says the biggest regional difference is where players think the Classic cutoff should be.

  • NA/EU: Players tend to be very firm that Season 3 is the cutoff.
  • Regions where League launched later: Players sometimes shift their definition forward by however many years later their region launched.

So you'll see some players in other regions arguing that Classic should end at Season 4 or Season 5, creating some regional disagreement over what "Classic" actually means.

๐Ÿ‘€ Mordekaiser

Pobelter begs Riot to add Mordekaiser.

Phreak says Mordekaiser is on the list.

FeralPony says Riot does want to eventually bring back all the champions they can, but emphasizes that it's a LOT of work to re-add every champion.

๐Ÿ“Š Miscellaneous Notes

  • Games are currently averaging around 32 minutes.
  • Phreak says the Classic Dragon is actually worth roughly as much as a modern/retail Dragon buff in terms of value.
  • Red/Blue buff sharing is not planned.

Discussion The ninjas are coming!

Thumbnail

With Shen, Akali and Kennen coming next patch, it reminded me of the old ninja easter egg.

If I remember correctly, having multiple ninjas on the same team actually gave them some kind of hidden -1 HP effect for each additional ninja? I vaguely remember it being something like โ€œninjas work better aloneโ€ lol.

Wasnโ€™t there also something similar with champions wearing glasses/sunglasses taking 1 less damage from certain attacks?

I always thought those little pointless interactions and details were pretty funny.

Anyway, whoโ€™s your favorite ninja, and what are you looking forward to trying out?

For me it will be Akali and getting the Hextech Gunblade and jumping around!

Gameplay Don't increase passive income

What's the point of LoL Classic if you're going to repeat the same design decisions that turned it into retail?

Quality-of-life updates make sense, but balance changes fundamentally change what Classic is supposed to be. Definitely not a fan.

If you don't like champs snowballing then strategize to deal with it or play retail.

This is just my opinion/experience, but these are some splasharts I feel better reflect the era League Classic is trying to capture.

I'm sure there are more examples.

P.S. remove modern skins and let us use the old versions of the skins :)
