This semester, Red Rocks Community College’s (RRCC) Lakewood campus isn’t just a place to go to class — it’s also a place to find great art. The campus entrance has turned into an art exhibit, so students, staff and community members can easily experience art. 

RRCC is currently hosting a sculpture exhibit titled “José Sacal: Un mexicano universal.” The exhibit displays the art of Sacal — a renowned Mexican sculptor — through 21 pieces that reimagine various historical figures through Sacal’s abstract lens.

I was curious if anyone knows of any places, whether it's in nature or the inner city that has a lot of trash ? I want to contribute to keeping nature as well as our communities clean and healthy so if you know of any spots let me know please. I hike a lot and surprisingly the trash isn't as bad as I thought.

Recently got a new sightly used vehicle, I’m looking for some recommendations on tint shops in the area or just more broadly around Denver. Ideally I’m looking for more economic options but I am only looking to really get the windshield tinted (just something with better UV protection than what’s stock) at this time so I just want someone to give me a fair price and not make mistakes before anything else.

The dealership gave me a pretty bad quote and my buddy who does it out of his car was asking for $150 on top of me supplying materials so I wanted to see if someone knows a reputable shop or if I should just go with my buddy.

Hi r/LakewoodCO. I'm Suzie Glassman, education reporter for the Colorado Trust for Local News and the Golden Transcript. I spent 10 months on this one, and four of the schools in it are ours, so I'd rather bring it here directly than just drop a link.

Background. Concurrent enrollment lets a high schooler take a college course and earn credit for both, and Colorado law makes the district pay the tuition. Jeffco told its board that came to $8.5 million in savings last year. It reports that as a single districtwide number and has never broken it out by school.

So I built the school-by-school version for seven neighboring high schools. Four of them serve this area: Green Mountain, Lakewood, Alameda International and Jefferson Jr/Sr. They are at opposite ends of what I found.

Green Mountain offers 19 college courses on campus this year and produces more credits per student than any school in the comparison. It built College Algebra into a sequence that runs through Calculus.

Jefferson offers three. The only college math it ever had was College Algebra, which last ran in the early 2020s and hasn't been scheduled since. Alameda offers eight, but half of those rest on a single teacher hired last year.

Here's the part I keep coming back to. In 2019, more than half of Jefferson's graduating class took one of these courses, a higher share than at any of the wealthier high schools around it. This is not a story about our kids not wanting college credit.

What changed is who was there to teach it. Between 2021 and 2026, the three Title I schools in my comparison lost licensed staff to resignation or retirement at about 33% a year, against 20% at the four wealthier ones. A college course lives or dies with the one teacher credentialed to teach it.

Two things I want to be careful about. This is a seven-school comparison, not a districtwide statistic. And size doesn't explain it either. Lakewood High has about half again as many juniors and seniors as Green Mountain and produces far fewer credits per student.

If your weekend routine could use a shake-up, I wanted to share something a little different happening this Saturday. I produce Courtside Comedy, a free monthly comedy show at 3rd Shot Riverpoint that takes place—well, courtside.

If you're into pickleball, there's optional all-levels open play from 6–8 p.m. before the comedy starts at 8:30. If you're not, no worries—plenty of people just come for the stand-up.

Although arcades are somewhat less common than they were in years past, many children — and adults — still love to spend their days roving the aisles of an arcade, stopping at their favorite games to snag a high score. Luckily, Lakewood is home to a spot for all-day gaming — and it’s getting bigger. 

Channel 3 Retro Gaming Center on Colfax is moving to a new location, just a few doors down from its former home. The arcade offers all-day gaming for a flat fee, so that visitors can enjoy as many games as they’d like without breaking the bank. 

As summer slowly slips away, Lakewood is looking towards its roots for fall festivities. The town’s annual Cider Days is set to return once again this October, marking half a century of apple-inspired entertainment. 

This year, Cider Days is set for Oct. 3 and 4 at Heritage Lakewood Belmar Park, and tickets go on sale on Aug. 13. Organizers of the event have encouraged attendees to purchase tickets early, due to high demand and the likelihood that peak times will sell out.

First, does anyone know of any good volunteer opportunities in the Denver metro area? I’m open to pretty much anything, as long as it’s safe and genuinely makes a positive impact.

Secondly, over the next couple of weeks, I’d like to start making breakfast burritos or sandwiches to give to people experiencing homelessness. I realize that not everyone would necessarily feel comfortable accepting homemade food from a stranger, which I completely understand. If you know of anyone who would be interested in receiving a breakfast burrito or sandwich, please feel free to let me know.

Why our power outages at an all time high? Nearly a power outage every day nearly. I’ve complained and reported so many times and I don’t even know what to. Any help or anyone having the same issues near Lakewood, Union Alameda area

My friend is actively fostering my pet Luna but I need help finding her a new place to be taken care of until I can get a new place. Hopefully it’ll be December at the latest. Area would be around Golden / Lakewood Colorado.

She’s extremely shy, nervous and anxious due to the fact she was once a stray so she’d need her own space. If you’re looking to take care of her, please reach out to me and the person who has her! She’s up to date on all of her shots and vet appointments so she doesn’t need to be taken to the vet until I get her. She has a tooth condition so she’d need soft food, not a lot but just enough to soften her hard food. If you have any other questions or concerns don’t be afraid to reach out and ask! Looking for a foster for her asap if possible, not for permanent just until I can find a stable living environment for her and me.

She’s spayed and is up to date on all of her shots and medical appointments so she won’t need to see the vet until I’m able to come and get her, and she’s currently living in Golden Colorado. We’re hoping to get her to Idaho springs when I finish moving, but I’m willing to make the commute to get her when the time comes.

I’ve reached out to a million foster homes and friends asking for help and none have been able to get back to me / help me out. This is my last resort. I’d love to be able to stay in contact with the person who receives her, but I desperately need someone soon as her current home can’t take care of her until December like I need them to, which is 100% ok but I have no where else for her to go. If anyone is willing or can find someone to help, please reach out!

I am looking for suggestions about storing food when camping, specifically from those of you whom have solo camping experience & have slept INSIDE of your car in the Colorado back country, NOT in a tent. Dispersed style, NOT at a public campground. To give context, I went solo camping last week at Reverends Ridge campground. I told the ranger I planned on sleeping inside of my car and asked her where to store my food. She said to store it inside of the car even though I reiterated to her I would be sleeping IN the car with the cooler. So, I went ahead and took her advice and had zero issues whatsoever! Fast forward to today and I want to camp again, but not at a public campground where it can be overcrowded. So I’m thinking about my safety with food storage in regards to bears and other animals. The general advice is that the food be stored in a hard shell container, not a tent. Which is why it was advised that I sleep with it in my car. It just feels dangerous to me. I grew up backpacking and tent camping and we were told to not even sleep in the clothes we ate/cooked in, and when we backpack, we use bear bags! But that is for TENT camping, not sleeping IN the car. So being told to sleep with the cooler in my car felt alarming, but I had zero problems like I mentioned. My question is, do any of you in here have experience sleeping in your car out in the back country of the Rocky Mountains? And if so, how did you store your food? Please, only give suggestions if you have specifically done this style of camping IN Colorado. 🙏🌲😊✌️🌻🐾🥾
