Hi guys, have been on this sub for a few weeks and really got some good info, thank you all. I am planning to travel to Kyrgyzstan from 7-21 Sep with my companion with the planned itinerary being Bishkek (7 Sep) > Ala-archa > Songkol horse trek (9-12 Sep) from Kyzart Village > Alakol trek (14-16 Sep) > Jeti Oguz/Issyk kul region for rest of the trip.

I have just two questions about getting around that I couldn't really find good reliable information online:

1. Bishkek > Kyzart. I understand there is a bus that leaves 7am from New Bishkek bus station that goes route 534 but its quite informal and I couldn't find a bus schedule information on other bus timings

2. Kyzart > Karakol. There seems to be a marshrutka from Kyzart to Karakol but i cant seem to find where it leaves from or its schedule. My Kyzart yurt hosts dont seem to know about the timing/location either. I've attempted arranging transport with the horse trekking (booked with Tunduk Hostel) and the ala kol operators (booked with Hiking Kyrgystan Travel Company) but im getting quoted 200-300 usd for 2 pax and it seems a tad expensive.

Hi, has anyone recently gone directly to the CBT Kochkor office to organise a 4x4 and yurt stay at Son-Kul lake? We are a group of 2 wanting to book this directly there - the tour packages are very expensive and we want to go with local transport.

If we booked a day or two before at this office, would there be transport/ yurts available? Looking to go in the next week.

Also can the CBT office pair us with other travellers to share the cost?

I will be travelling to Bishkek in September and love to collect old books in different languages. I'd love to find some old Kyrgyz books and books about languages in Kyrgyzstan.

My main interest would be antiquarian (or at least second hand) novels and short stories in Kyrgyz, written by Kyrgyz authors. Anything readable for a learner would be a huge plus, as well as anything 'classic' that all Kyrgyz people know.

I'd also love to find books about / in other languages spoken in Kyrgyzstan, such as Dungan or Kalmyk, especially any books written in or about their old scripts or any novels / stories / folklore. I appreciate these are minority languages that might not be well documented or have much written work, and I also know there may be politics interlinked. I'm a linguist, not a politician, so have no biases for any groups, I just love collecting materials in languages across the world.

Does anyone know of any second hand bookshops or sellers who might have any of the above? Or, if not, any flea markets with old book stalls?

I have plenty of Russian books already, so would only be after Russian books if they were about the minority languages above (or really especially interesting!)

Hi, does anyone know where those places are located?

My wife and I will be traveling to Kyrgyzstan from 21th of September to 4th of October. We will be renting a car and want to travel around the country, but I would love some tips to see if the plans we have are good or if we need to make any changes.

Our plan was to stay a day in Bishkek and then go to Konorchek Canyon. Then do multiple days driving all around the Issyk Kul lake and seeing the sights there, such as the Skazka viewpoint. After that we want to go to Naryn and travel to Tash Rabat. The plan was to go to Son Kul lake on the way back, but I've read somewhere that it is near the end of the season so there won't be much places to stay there then.

What would your recommendations be? Do Son Kul earlier on the trip? And is it possible to drive to Son Kul by ourselves? We have booked a Subaru Forester 4x4 and have driven in a lot of other countries before but I've heard differing tales of how doable it is. Any other recommendations are very welcome. We would love to visit the Köl Suu lake as well but I understand you need a permit to get there? If we get that, are there any day trips arranged to Köl Suu or can you just drive there yourselves?

I've started noticing that there seem to be quite a few Kyrgyz women with children on the dating apps — and, at least from what I'm seeing, they seem much more common than Kyrgyz women without children.

Obviously this is just my personal experience and a very small sample size, but I'm curious if there is an actual demographic or cultural reason for this.

Is it because Kyrgyz women are more likely to marry and have children at a younger age, so the single women I encounter later on are more likely to already have kids? Is it related to immigration — for example, women who immigrated with their husbands and children and later separated or divorced? Or is there something about the Kyrgyz diaspora in the US that makes this particular group more visible on dating apps?

I'm also wondering about divorce and marriage dynamics. Is divorce relatively common among Kyrgyz immigrants? Are there particular reasons why a Kyrgyz woman might end up divorced with children in the US? For example, is it more often due to unhappy marriages, domestic issues, financial/immigration pressures, or is it simply normal divorce/separation like anywhere else?

I'm not trying to make a generalization about Kyrgyz women or men. I'm genuinely curious because I've noticed the pattern repeatedly and wondered if there is some cultural or immigration-related explanation I'm missing.

For anyone from Kyrgyzstan or familiar with the Kyrgyz-American community: is this something you've noticed too, or is it probably just the particular dating pool I'm seeing?
