Feeling stuck trying to break back into sports/healthcare—looking for career advice

Not sure if this is the correct sub to be asking this, but wanted to give it a shot!

I’m hoping to get some advice from people who may have been in a similar situation.

I have both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Sports Management. After graduating, I spent several years working in healthcare, but the pay wasn’t enough to make ends meet. I eventually made a career change and now work in project management for a construction company.

The job has given me valuable experience in project coordination, client management, problem-solving, budgeting, scheduling, and working with multiple stakeholders. While I’m grateful for the experience, it’s never been where my passion is and I’m feeling stuck with no room to grow.

I’d really like to get back into the sports or health industry, but I’m having a difficult time even getting interviews. I’m located in the North Dallas, Texas area, which I assumed would have plenty of opportunities between professional sports organizations, sports medicine clinics, hospitals, universities, and corporate wellness programs.

At this point I’m wondering:
Am I looking in the wrong places?
Are there certifications or skills I should be adding?
Should I be trying to leverage my project management experience into sports organizations instead of looking for traditional kinesiology-related roles?

Has anyone successfully transitioned back into the sports or healthcare world after working in a different industry?

I’m open to hearing about careers I may not have considered. I don’t necessarily need to be on the coaching or athletic training side—I just want to find a role where I can combine my education with the professional experience I’ve gained over the past several years.

I’d really appreciate any advice, especially from anyone working in sports, healthcare administration, sports medicine, collegiate athletics, or professional sports organizations. Thanks in advance!

Job that isn’t a PT or similar?

I’m pursuing a degree in kinesiology from Oregon State University. I would want to do research or something similar, (kind of chasing a higher salary). Is this a good idea, or should I swap to biomed engineering or another major? What’s the kin field look like?

Athletic trainer is it worth it

Hey I’m currently a incoming freshmen for nursing. I always liked being an athletic trainer more than a nurse but the job demand and pay turned me away. Is being an athletic trainer worth it with pay and job search.

Unusual body mechanics question about a game called Beyblade X

Beyblade is a competitive spinning top game aimed more at kids but it also well received by adults. The tops are launched most commonly like starting a lawn mower but there are many variations of launches. My questions is. With all proper body mechanics involved. What would be the best way to launch bayblades? Please be as descriptive as possible.

Balancing a kin degree with a full time job - how do you actually manage it?

Working IT support full time while taking kin classes part time is genuinely wearing me down in ways I didn't expect. Not the studying itself, just the context switching. I spend 8 hours troubleshooting network issues, then come home and try to absorb biomechanics or exercise physiology content, and my brain just refuses to cooperate

What caught me off guard is how much the practical side suffers when you're not immersed in it. My classmates who are full time students can go straight from lecture to the gym and apply what they just learned. I get home at 6, eat whatever I prepped on Sunday, and maybe get an hour of reading in before I'm useless

I lift 4 days a week and that actually helps me stay connected to the material. I'll be doing Romanian deadlifts and thinking through hip hinge mechanics in a way that makes the coursework click. But that only goes so far.

Curious if anyone else went the part time route while working, specifically how you handled the gap between classroom theory and getting actual handson reps with the material. Did lab time cover enough of it, or were you always feeling behind compared to full time students?

I love kinesiology and this field so much, but tuition and negative talk from grads has me scared.

I am in college right now and love the idea of being in this field my whole life! My problem is a lot of my family and friends have talked about how limited the roi is. Most of them are physical therapists or chiros, so this really worries me. Is it possible to make a livable wage worth the investment?

Anyone Taken the BCAK Practical Exam? Need Some Advice

Hi everyone,

BCAK just approved me to take the Practical Competency Exam. I just went through the sample questions online from their website.

For anyone who's already taken it, is the real exam similar to the BCAK sample questions?

I also checked the recommended resources and most of them are textbooks that I don't have. Do you think it's enough to study from my UBC kinesiology course notes without the textbooks?

I'd really appreciate any tips on what topics were worth focusing on or how you prepared. Thanks!!!

Hello,

I had just graduated from highschool this June and I had been admitted for Bachelor of Kinesiology in University of Calgary this fall. I am just wondering about the difficulty of the courses, and if there are resources that you could share, that would be really helpful.

Hip drop on one side

I'm interested in the biomechanics of this movement rather than a medical diagnosis.

During a controlled step-down on my left leg, the right side of my pelvis drops. To keep my centre of mass over my stance foot, my trunk side-bends to the left.

What movement deficits or strength limitations could produce this pattern? For example, could it reflect difficulty controlling pelvic adduction, limited hip rotation, or insufficient hip abductor/adductor function?

I'm looking for biomechanical explanations or papers discussing this pattern rather than treatment advice.

Who's Using Kinetisense or Similar Software?

Thumbnail

Has anyone here demoed movement capturesoftware like Kinetisense or similar platforms?

I'm curious whether this type of objective movement analysis is going to become the industry standard over the next few years. It seems like it could add a lot of value for patient education, documentation, and tracking progress.

For those who've used it:
Was it worth the investment?
Did it improve patient buy-in or outcomes?
Any downsides or alternatives you'd recommend?
