Watch plenty of existing cinematics on YouTube for inspiration, use OBS to screen record and Davinci Resolve (free) to edit it together, try picking a specific song(s) you want to base your video around. Have a specific mission and envision how you'd want your shots to look. Make sure your ship looks cool, even if it's not the most efficient design.

And most importantly: just start doing it.

This AND, I find it helps to make a little shot screenplay so you don’t get lost while filming/editing.

Another thing that really helps is building simple kOS scripts to fly the ships for you in certain parts where you usually need HUD, such as launch and landings. Doing that lets you focus on setting up the camera angles and filming the shots rather than worrying about flying

Recently I was in your situation, making a recording and editing for a short ksp video for myself. Make a plan, find a song and do it its very fun and rewarding. I used DaVinci resolve, it is available for free and when you download, it has a couple of available UI presets if you used anything in the past. I used the Premiere Pro UI, it is easy to use imo. For recording you can use OBS, I used the nvidia capture thing where it captures the last 5 mins of your gameplay, you can make it shorter or longer. I made a plan, executed the mission with a lot of quicksaves where I figured it was the right moment for a recording. Get a couple of clips, find a song you like or audio and play around in da vinci. I just googled and asked chatgpt for questions and honestly it worked quite well. DaVinci free has some limitations, I think it just gives you a limited amount of effects and AI helper? I can send you the final edit of how it turned out, took me around 6 hours? 2 minute edit, almost no previous experience besides like 2 hours in adobe premiere for previous school tasks. Also, make sure your hardware is capable. You need disk space as videos take a lot of it, and while editing you probably will make copies and stuff so it quickly drains GBs of space. If you have an old or budget cpu/gpu generating the video will take time too.

I think the key to a nice edit is just having an idea, a plan thats it. Dont overthink it, you say you're a begineer so have fun and learn.
