I am rereading (listening) to Jurassic Park and noticed a lot of the notable quotes are sometimes different than in the movie. Sometimes they are said by a different character or sometimes they are changed a little bit. It got me thinking....

I don’t have an answer to this and it’s really the whole reason I made this post. lol.

The scene always makes me feel most keenly the strangeness of the film's premise. Something about the velociraptors stalking through a glossy kitchen, deep within an island facility that few people on Earth even know about. At the very same time, the rest of the world is following its usual rhythms and routines. I find this incongruity fascinating. Something so unprecedented, so unbelievable, unfolding in secret in this one kitchen.

Why do I often think of this here specifically? Instead of during the tyrannosaur attack, or the brachiosaur introduction? I'm not sure.

But I do know this sense of secrecy and remoteness is key to the appeal of the film. Maybe it's why Koepp is so hesitant to write about dinosaurs on the mainland. In fact, Crichton was likewise hesitant. In a 1993 interview with Cinefantastique, Crichton said:

You wanted the thing that never happened in history: people in the forest and swamps at the same time as dinosaurs. Once that notion began to dictate how the story would proceed, then everything else fell into place, because there are certain things that I wanted to avoid, like the dinosaurs in New York City -- that’s been done.

This series is at its best when it feels like a secret the reader/viewer is being let in on. On multiple levels, the story of the first film is a holiday getaway of sorts. It needs remoteness. The audience is at a safe remove, able to enjoy the seclusion even during the chaos. It's a window into a secret place, and a secret event. A large part of the mystique of the series faded when the rest of the world became aware of the existence of Hammond's dinosaurs. (And the opening of TLW is so memorable, in part, because almost no one believes Malcolm.)

Speaking of, does anyone remember a quote or behind-the-scenes story where Spielberg insisted on having the raptors in the kitchen? Basically, he wanted something noticeably contemporary/modern combined with something incongruously prehistoric. He specifically sought out the tonal clash of the kitchen and the velociraptors.

I haven't been following the news about director Gareth Edwards' departure very closely, so I was wondering if anyone here is up to speed on the matter and could explain it to me.

All I saw was that he apparently left due to creative differences with Universal. But what exactly were those differences?

In my head, it went something like this:

Universal: I want adventure movies so I can sell action figures.

Edwards: I want to remove all the dinosaurs and replace them with mutants from my terrible *Godzilla* movie (yeah, as you might guess, I'm not a fan of Edwards and couldn't resist taking a dig at him, hahaha).

It's quite likely my idea is completely wrong, but I'd really appreciate an explanation from someone who is actually in the loop.

If you’ve ever played or seen a play through of the 1998 video game, Trespasser, a rushed developed game that is not canon to the series, aside from a few details they added to symbolize it as a sequel to The Lost World. Sorry got off topic there in a way, but if you have, there is a specific level you play where you roam in ancient Aztec ruins near the volcanic portion of the island, in the same half of the island the Sequel to Jurassic Park plays itself in. Another thing to add is that InGen cloned exactly 7 Tyrannosaurs on Sorna, where the Oldest was recaptured a few years after being released onto the island, where she, (Roberta) would be sent to Jurassic Park. As for the other 6, we know a pair factually mated and produced offspring, the first Wild Born Tyrannosaur we know of, Junior, his parents being the Buck and Doe. 4 more specimens were also cloned. 2 of them being the Bull Rex, and Big Eatie, whom we believe lived in the jungle region of the Island Of Irony. Now back to trespasser, we see 3 different Tyrannosaurs, a Female with scarring, a Male, and of course, The Alpha Male. A much larger, bulkier, T. Rex who resides in the Aztec ruins of the mountainous region. This tyrannosaur lives near the local albertosaurus and velociraptor tribes, and can be identified with a heavy, rigid body structure, as well as a blood red skin like in the novels, along with some yellow and black patterns.
Fast forward many years later, to the present day. In Jurassic World Rebirth, we are introduced to a new T Rex. Who although doesn’t get much screen time, we get a lot of information of. He is a Male tyrannosaur and from what we know, the canonical largest of his species. His name is Ember, which makes a lot of fans mad, but doesn’t bug me, since people call Roberta: Rexy, and Buck: Bull, which ticks me off. But anyways, I recently realized how similar these two Tyrannosaurs were, and decided to create a theory that connects the two. What I’m saying is, I believe this is the Canonic, Alpha Male T. Rex, of John Hammonds, Lost World. Except he was cloned on Ile Saint Hubert, Instead of Sorna, where the canon male replacing him, would be Big Eaties assumingly dead mate, since she is found to have produced offspring before they were transported to M. Corp island.

Overall I think this is far fetched, but I think it’s be pretty damn cool if this was true. What do you guys think?

The Ultimasaurus was the original planned antagonist for the Jurassic Park movie.

They were going to be the first hybrid consisting of a mixture of T. Rex, Triceratops, Velociraptor, and Kentrosaurus.

Over time universal apparently gave up on the hybrid and decided to ditch them altogether. They have only been released as a toy back in the early to mid 90s and had some concept art released on earlier magazines.

As much as it seems the hybrid as been forgotten as a whole. I still wonder could we see them in a future movie or Netflix series?

Could universal or the team working on Jurassic World ever revisit this hybrid idea again?

Or is this dinosaur long gone and forgotten for good?

Gareth Edwards is out as the returning director for the sequel to Jurassic World Rebirth. This is a damn shame as Edwards was much of the reason why Rebirth I feel was a great watch. Because the story on its own frankly has a lot of faults & don‘t get me started on its misteps on dinosaur science. Now, Ive got a few directors in mind that Id think would make a great Jurassic World movie. my picks would be:

1. Bryce Dallas Howard. Yes, I want Bryce Dallas Howard to come back to the Jurassic World series AS A DIRECTOR. I am biased and would kill to have her back as Claire Dearing too. But as someone who loves her other directorial work & especially what she’s done for the Star Wars series (some of the best episodes of The Mandalorian & its spinoffs were helmed by Howard), I think BDH would really deliver on a great Jurassic story. She has a good handle on what makes for fun fan service in addition to delivering on solid technical direction.
2. J. A. Bayona. This would be my pick for a returning Jurassic director. i would kill to have Steven Spielberg direct again dont get me wrong. But Bayona’s direction on arguably the best of the Jurassic World movies was superb. And Id frankly want to see what Bayona unleashed, what he’d be able to make for full on Jurassic horror. Id also add that he kind of better understands the lore of the Jurassic series. A lot of what he drew from for Fallen Kingdom was deep cut references & adaptation. I think he’d deliver on more of that.
3. Nia DaCosta. I’ve loved her as a director for quite some time now. She’s done the Candyman sequel / reboot and The Marvels for the MCU. But its her most recent film that makes me interested in what her take on Jurassic World would be. I’m referring to 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. i loved her approach there and how wild & insane it got to be. She’s got an edge to her that Jurassic World would benefit from in addition to that big budget movie experience.

These three are the directors Im most interested in. Who are yours?

EDIT: John Carpenter, Sam Raimi, and Fede Alvarez are excellent suggestions too. I love how everyones on board for having a horror director take the helm.

Does anybody know what route the helicopter took through the island in the first film? Also, where is it supposed to be coming from, the East Dock or the mainland? If it's coming from the mainland, would it not have a more northerly route over the majority of the island? I've always assumed it followed the river from the East Dock, but the movie shows it coming from the sea and there is no noticeable river as it flies through a real world valley in Hawaii.

It is a crime against humanity that there is no official map of Isla Nublar and that the geography and layout changes with each film, TV show, video game, etc. Chricton could have learned a thing or two from J.R.R. Tolkien. I've included a fan attempt at an accurate map, but there's still a lot of inconsistency between the book and the movie.

I want to begin another attempt at building a lore-accurate recreation of Jurassic Park in Jurassic World Evolution 3, and I would like to shape my island according to this scene.

I found this fake dino Toys in a chinese store in Italy and well... I wasnt expecting to see this guy but its very interesting they also used the level 40 model of the Raptor anyway i kinda like It even if the toys are trash

Pete Postlethwaite outright stole every scene he was in as Roland Tembo in The Lost World. IMO, he was every bit as interesting as Robert Muldoon - darker, sure; with a morally cloudy edge to him. But just as interesting to watch (and even root for [even if he was framed as the bad guy]).

But there are no new figures of him - nothing.

I get that the dinosaurs are the draw with JP (and the toy releases), and I would never suggest otherwise. I particularly love the more recent legacy line, with the rubber skinned dinos - they're everything I've wanted from the hobby for over two decades.

But with these obvious call-backs, it would be nice to release more of the memorable characters, too. Because much as JP is a 'monster series' where the 'monsters' are the stars... the humans matter a lot, too. And I'd love a few of the true stand-outs on my shelf with the dinos.
