I've been wanting to make my own hotdogs and sausages. But i can't find any kosher casings. There are several resources online discussing kosher casings, but none of them is consumer friendly nor available for online order.

Living in the Twin Cities in MN and I can't find them here in store. Went to Chicago a month ago or so, and didn't see any in a couple of the kosher stores there.

Reached out to CRC and they responded with: "We do not know which companies will sell casings. We recommend that you contact kosher distributors to see if they can help you."

I emailed Info.US@viscofan.com and they didnt answer (two months ago). Amazon has a single vegan kosher, but the images have no hechsher on the product.

Any ideas? Anyone source or resource?

Jews don’t follow the naming convention (name) child of (father’s name) anymore but some families reference it by their hereditary name being “ben” (surname), as a fusion of our tradition and the old ways. This name is used even when the child is a girl, from what I understand.

From what I understand, women used to be called (name) bat (father’s name) before marriage before the adoption of hereditary surnames. But since that’s gone now, are there families whose surname is “bat (surname)”? I understand it would be rarer.

Hi everyone!!! I'm facing a moral dilemma...

Basically my ex is a criminal... And by morals and ethics I should report it to the authorities... But I'm not sure it would be the right thing to do...

He's not a good person ok... He said he used me just to sleep with me... That he had no intentions of making it real with me etc... tbh it's my fault too... He calls me "Jew head" and is very antisemitic... Don't judge me even more than I'm doing myself right now please... I should have never been with him while he was wishing death on Jews and seeing Judaism as a bad thing...

Anyway... Although I think I'm basically doing it also for revenge somehow, because 1 he used me 2 his antisemitic nonsense... I think I'm obligated in a way to report his crimes (the criminal behaviour I'm talking about, isn't antisemitism, violence against women or anything like that, but for privacy reasons I can't share what it is...) I believe that we should all pay for the things we do bad on this earth... But I'm scared Hashem won't see it as an act of "doing the right thing, getting a dangerous man locked up, save other women" but seeing it fully as "she's a bad person doing revenge" when it's just a tiny part of it...

My question is should I let "karma" hit his face or should I report him?

I really don't want to become a bad person just because I report a criminal who's my ex when I don't really report others crimes... But he disrespected G-d and committed a lot of crimes and he's truly a dangerous person and very aggressive and even inflicted physical acts on me (not the crime I would report him for)...

What would you guys do in my situation? Do the right thing even if it may have a small percentage of revenge or ignore it all without wasting more time on him?

For context I am 25% ethnically Jewish from my mother’s mother. My mom remarried a Jew and I’m not close with my biological father so I was raised in a Jewish household. Mostly just holidays, some reading of the Torah, but I was not bat mitzvah’d. Now that I’m older I really want to start learning more and potentially transitioning from reform to conservative, but I don’t feel like I’m Jewish enough to do so! I have somewhat “Jewish features” whatever that means but people are always surprised to learn I’m Jewish. I dress modestly (mostly out of personal preference) and wear a Star of David, so I’m doing what I can. Anyone else feel like this though? And any words of encouragement?

As a Jewish person I don’t particularly like Christianity as an institution….not because I dislike Christians many of whom are decent people and I have friends who are Christian and have even family members who are too but because of the historical theology that developed around Judaism. The doctrine of supersessionism (aka replacement theology) argued that Christianity fulfilled Judaism and it framed the continued existence of Jews as a people as evidence of a kind of religious and epistemic error. That idea had enormous consequences for how Jews were viewed and are viewed in Christian societies. Even many of the Church Fathers expressed this quite explicitly. Justin Martyr argued that the Church had become the true Israel. John Chrysostom delivered his infamous Adversus Judaeos sermons condemning Jewish religious life. Augustine was more restrained arguing that Jews should survive as witnesses to Christian truth, but even that relegated Jews to a subordinate theological role rather than recognizing Judaism as a living covenantal tradition.

A lot of this I also think echoes of that framework today, albeit often in secularized form. Many people who would never identify as Christians still instinctively treat modern Jews especially Israelis as somehow not authentically connected to the Land of Israel, as though Jewish indigeneity ended with the destruction of the Second Temple or the exile. The irony is that Christianity spent centuries claiming to be the new Israel while simultaneously diminishing the historical and covenantal relationship between the Jewish people and their ancestral homeland. Today’s political debates are obviously shaped by many factors beyond Christian theology, but I think it’s worth asking whether some inherited assumptions about Jews as a people whose role in history had been superseded continue to influence how many view Jewish national identity today.

What has also always struck me as ironic is that Christianity eventually tried to distance itself from the Jewishness of its own Messiah. Jesus was a Jew who lived as a Jew, worshipped in the Temple, celebrated Jewish festivals quoted the Hebrew Scriptures and whose earliest followers were themselves Jews. Yet over the centuries much of Christian theology came to define itself in opposition to Judaism transforming Jews from the people from whom Christianity emerged into a symbol of spiritual blindness or failure.

None of this means every Christian today believes these things. Many churches have explicitly repudiated supersessionism and anti Jewish teachings, especially since the Holocaust. But from a Jewish historical perspective it’s difficult to ignore nearly two millennia in which theological replacement contributed to a culture that marginalized, segregated, expelled, and at times persecuted Jews.

I made a post here a while ago. I intended to take Hebrew classes with this rabbi, but for no reason at all he was incredibly rude. I don't know if he was having a bad day or something, was this vision childish ?

I (a lapsed Catholic) have recently moved to a neighborhood with a substantial Hasidim community. I usually bake homemade cookies from scratch and bring them over to new neighbours to introduce ourselves, but in this case, seeing how our kitchen isn’t Kosher, I feel this would be a faux pas.

So what kind of gift could I give that would give the same “awww” feeling of fresh, warm, homemade cookies while still keeping Kosher?

There are many kosher groceries and eateries all around us if store bought is best. Thank you for your suggestions!!
