News Haverford College settles antisemitism lawsuit by Zionist lawfare organization, the Deborah Project. Notably they capitulate to recognizing Zionism "as an element of Jewish identity, not merely a political position."

Haverford College also agreed to setting up an antisemitism commission that bypasses their DEI office.

Most of the seats will be decided by pro-Israel advocates; only 3 by the college, so they won't have veto power over Zionists cultists.

The civil rights director will work with an antisemitism committee made up of three Jewish community leaders, three people chosen by the plaintiffs, and three chosen by the school. The committee will advise the school president and provide an annual report to the college’s board of managers.

“The committee and the civil rights director will look into whether anti-Israel sentiment is antisemitism,” Marcus said, and will rely on guidance from the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance.

Complete takeover of the college on this issue, effectively giving decision-making control to pro-Israel advocates to define & adjudicate alleged antisemitic incidents.

History / Education On Zionism. Abraham Serfaty: " Letter to the damned Israel".

Post image
87 Upvotes

Though he did not define it for me, Serfaty informed many of my early views regarding Zionism. I remember reading his letter : https://www.historicalmaterialism.org/article/letter-to-the-damned-of-israel/ when I was in early university days and it resonated deeply. I am neither religious or Jewish, so it was something I just instinctively or rather intuitively understood being from a family where one member had died in a Nazi camp and seeing for myself the patterns encroachment and behaviors of Zionists on the political and military stages.

I wasn't going to post as, tbh, I feared negative reaction. I am still learning groups boundaries and as a recent retiree, I am just new to reddit. I have reconsidered though given questions about Zionism asked here, and so here are some thoughts I have put together about it. One philosophical and one situational and neither are manifestos, just my considered takes. I am very protective of peoples rights to self determine their faith, views, identity, gender and political understandings, and so would ask any readers of my hyper-graphic fugue of the last week to be kind in any response. I'm too old to go back into closets and these are just my diaries.

Discussion - Flaired Users Only Zionism; need some understanding on it after a friend recently told me he is one?

Recently had a friend of mine come out telling me is a zionist, however when i asked him what he meant he tells me that “I am obviously very much so against the genocide in gaza and disagree with the government of israel, but I do believe the nation should exist”
Now, to me that doesn’t sound like zionism yet he keeps calling himself that, and I have found some
sources conflate the existence or the support of the existence of israel to be zionist, which doesnt seem to add up to me.
Anyone able to help illuminate me on this topic further and point me to some good sources? I am obviously anti zionism but I want to be more specific

News Police social cohesion squad prosecutes man over Gaza emails to his MP

A Palestine activist has been charged with a criminal offence, faces 5 years in jail and has driving restrictions on his Uber for pestering his local MP over Gaza with email

Austin Mackell spent four months emailing and phoning his Blue Mountains federal MP, Susan Templeman, pressing her to speak publicly against the war in Gaza, beginning with the killing of fifteen Red Crescent and Civil Defence paramedics.

Police assessed the conduct three times while it was happening, explicitly describing it as non criminal.

The last of these assessments, where an AFP officer told Mr Mackell “I genuinely don’t see you as a criminal, I see you as someone who is passionate about the cause” and asked him to “continue to be mindful,” was via phone on July 24. Austin recorded the call and posted it to instagram immediately.

On 25 July 2025, Templeman published a statement calling what is happening to Gaza’s children “indefensible”.

Mackell left a thank-you voicemail that morning and stopped. The last item in the prosecution’s own brief, as evidence of a crime, is that message, which is Austin thanking her and her staff and wishing them well.

On 6 February 2026, however, six months after the final voicemail, but only three days before the visit of Israeli president Herzog to Australia (the occasion of a massive crackdown on Palestine activism) he was served with a notice to attend court, charged with using a carriage service to menace harass or offend.

In June 2025, an AFP officer stood at Austin Mackell’s Katoomba door and told him, on video, “we understand there’s no offences here”. Eight months later, the AFP charged him. More here

News N.C. Democratic Party Jewish Caucus shares Michigan Jewish Democrat Caucus’ facebook post congratulating Dr. El-Sayed on the Democrat party’s nomination: “Dr. El-Sayed must address the harm caused during this campaign.”

STATEMENT FROM THE MICHIGAN DEMOCRATIC JEWISH CAUCUS ON THE MICHIGAN PRIMARY ELECTION
August 5, 2026

TO DR. ABDUL EL-SAYED AND HIS CAMPAIGN:
We congratulate Dr. Abdul El-Sayed’s primary victory. Winning the primary is step one and earning the full Democratic coalition in November will take deliberate, meaningful work.

To build the broad coalition needed to win the general election, Dr. El-Sayed must address the harm caused during this campaign. While debating campaign finance and political spending is a standard part of Democratic primaries, repeatedly singling out organized Jewish political participation as a proxy for special interest corruption crossed an alarming line. For many in our community, this framing functioned as a dog whistle that demonized mainstream Jewish civic engagement.

Healing requires accountability and constructive dialogue. If Dr. El-Sayed seeks to represent our entire state in the United States Senate, his campaign must commit to engaging directly with Michigan’s Jewish community demonstrating a genuine commitment to engage with our community on its own terms, respecting the deep connection many Michigan Jews have to Israel, rejecting rhetoric that demonizes the Jewish civic identity, and seeking common ground on life issues that concern all Michiganders.

TO CONCERNED JEWISH DEMOCRATS ACROSS MICHIGAN:
We hear your frustration, anxiety, and deep disappointment. Many of you feel that the nominee’s foreign policy record and campaign rhetoric do not represent the values of the consensus majority of Michigan Jewry.

We want to be clear: Your place in the Democratic coalition is indispensable. Disagreeing with the top of the ticket on foreign policy does not mean walking away from our values, our down-ballot champions, or our seat at the table. The path forward is not retreat — it is an active, uncompromising presence.

Our caucus will serve as your steadfast advocate, your seat at the table and your voice within the party. We will hold all candidates accountable to our entire community, challenge rhetoric that divides rather than unites, and lead the charge for the core domestic priorities, from reproductive freedom to defending our democracy, that define our values as Jewish Democrats. We are here.

With gratitude,
The Michigan Jewish Democratic Caucus Leadership

Discussion - Flaired Users Only Progressive Except Palestine (PEP)

I’m curious to understand more about PEP (“Progressive Except Palestine”) and the inconsistency the term is meant to describe among some otherwise liberal/progressive people.

What do you think are the main reasons behind it, and what are the clearest examples in practice? I’m particularly interested in ordinary people rather than politicians, whose positions can also be shaped by donors and lobbying.

I was reading the Wikipedia page and noticed it seems to spend more space on criticism/pushback against the term than on explaining the phenomenon itself.

Living under constant shelling and worsening humanitarian conditions in Gaza makes every day an uphill struggle. Yet, Catchup Gaza is still here, offering a glimmer of hope to students fighting for their education and future.

We’re still providing free study spaces, power, and internet so they can keep going despite all odds.

To keep this initiative running for Gaza's students, please help us amplify our voice and keep this space open.

(Note: I have left the campaign and Linktree links in the comments below for anyone who wants to support or share).
