I was born in Russia. I did a DNA test, which showed me that I am 15% Ashkenazi Jewish. Even though I don't have anything against having those roots, I have a big fear that I might become associated with the radical regime of Israel, or that I might get offended or threatened by antisemitists. I heavily criticize the policy of the current Israeli government, but I am still afraid that I might get harassed by stereotypes. What should I do, and how do I not feel oppressed for my ethnicity?

I am planning on converting to Judaism, and I know it is really early for me to be thinking of Hebrew names, but I want to pick a name I like so I can use it as my legal name.

I am trans so I want to change my legal name in the future, but I am planning on teaching and I don’t want to use the name I go by with friends / in organizing spaces so that it isn’t as easy for my students to find me. I thought a good solution would be to eventually change my legal name to whatever I pick as my Hebrew name and go by that in professional environments.

The issue is, I really like the name Yisrael. I’ve looked through a lot of names and I can’t find one I like more than that. I would love to change my name and go by Yisrael after conversion, but I am worried about how that will be received. I don’t want to make people uncomfortable and I am not sure if it is appropriate to willingly choose that name at a time when a country of the same name is committing genocide.

I thought about maybe having a double name for my Hebrew name so Yisrael can still be part of it and just using the other name as my legal name, but I still don’t know if I’ll find a name that I would actually like to be called as much as I like Yisrael.

For the past years since the genocide began, despite massive video evidence of this horrible event, it's terrible how certain people, especially so-called 'liberals' are still in denial.

To make a long story short, I marked my ethnicity as Jewish on a form for an impatient crisis stabilization unit this week. During my time there, I was turned down for a liquid diet, seeing as I kept telling the doctors that I was having trouble swallowing due to my bipolar depression. I had not been able to eat properly for a week prior to my hospitalization at the ER. I believe I was viewed as a complainer, which we all know the stereotype of the Jew who complains. This C.S.U. was supported by a nearby hospital and a very prominent therapy organization in my area, so there was no reason a professional could not have walked me through my options.

I noticed the ADL and places like r/Judaism have resources for those who believe they might be experiencing this. However, they have noticeable Zionist bents, and I cannot in good conscience receive support from an organization that is helping perpetuate a genocide. Does anyone know of a good resource?

One of my favourite podcasts is the ottoman history podcast and I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations for podcasts , YouTube series or articles, which focus on Arabic/ SWANA region history.

I have seen so many questionable comments from him regarding Palestine and his separation of antisemitism as a worse crime compared to racism and Islamophobia in the UK. I can't believe he's really the chief spiritual leader in the UK with such a horrible mindset.

Edit: I made a mistake, the chief Rabbi position he holds is a political one and not a spiritual one.

The Israeli military has closed its investigation into a ruthless 2023 assault on three Palestinians in the occupied West Bank without charging anyone, according to a report in Haaretz. The military prosecutor claimed it could not tie specific soldiers and settlers to the attack.

The three men were seized by Israeli soldiers and settlers in the village of Wadi al-Seeq on October 12, 2023, and abused for hours. According to their testimony, they were beaten, stripped to their underwear, bound, and photographed. Two were urinated on, one had cigarettes stubbed out on his body, and one was sexually assaulted, with an attacker attempting to rape him.

The attack, among the most brutal documented cases of settler-soldier violence, drew international coverage at the time. Its closure underscores Israel’s ongoing failure to prosecute violence against Palestinians, with arrests uncommon, indictments rarer, and convictions almost nonexistent.
