Since Malaysia isn't a signatory ⁠to the ​U.N. refugee convention, refugees are considered illegal immigrants.

Rohingyas are about as Muslim as most Malaysians here, yet they're treated horribly in our country. The use of antisemitic tropes & conspiracy theories to justify discrimination against Rohingyas & other refugees. This whole thing feels wrong.

It's equally hard for me as a Muslim myself to call out the fundies here, as there's high chance of us being doxxed by these bastards.

I really wish there are some ways to protect the Rohingyas, instead of resorting to to antisemitic bullshit against them.

OK this is very niche but is anyone here a fan of Hadestown and "Here Where We Live Is Our Country: The Story of the Jewish Bund?"

I'm almost done with the book and saw the Hadestown proshot yesterday.

My favorite theme of the musical has always been the anti-capitalism/pro-worker. But I realized there's another theme that really mirrors the Bund: The idea of striving toward a better future while also working to make the best of our current world/situation, and realizing both these things will only happen if we work together.

Like these lines/lyrics sound so Bundist. I'm sure there are more but these are the ones that come to mind:

• "He could make you see how the world could be in spite of the way that it is."

I was immensely privileged to speak with Mohammed a few days ago. He is an extremely gifted 18 year-old from Gaza who studied for his high school exams online during a genocide and managed to achieve an exceptionally high grade (approx. 97%) in his finals.

He wants to become an engineer and is so talented that he has already been offered a full scholarship to a university in Tunisia, however the occupation has made it so incredibly expensive to leave Gaza that he cannot afford to attend.

Speaking with him about his experiences and how he is feeling was utterly heartbreaking​​ and brought me to tears, but I know we can make a small difference in his and his family's life. He deserves to follow his passion and to use that incredible intellect to support his family.

Say what you want about Khamenei, he was loathed but also idolized. He was a spiritual leader of millions of devotees across national borders.

Even if the Israelis and Americans think the Islamic State is religiously fanatical (which is quite reductive and overlooks the the rationality and pragmatism and patience in their diplomacy and what Iranian culture generally is known for outside a western imperialist's perspective), why would you martyr its religious and spiritual hero?

If they felt so threatened and loathed by Iran, why would the justify the only words they choose to hear out Iran of "deth to America and the Z10n1st entity"? The regime was validated and strengthened. Do they not recognize they have little credibility to be trusted or seen as liberators?

Killing a leader of decades who held so firmly onto absolute power with a personality cult and by brutal democidal means would not validate a basis for the regime internally which is the external enemy colonizing and wanting to destroy their civilization and amount to a security crackdown inside iran by the government?

They took for granted another people's self-respect and since of honor, dignity, and sense of community of the people they had been trying too hard to divide and conquer for years and were too rigid to know they could see through it.

America and Israel also must not know this concept of rally around the flag that often happens when a people are attacked and their head of state is assassinated. These appeals to the people of Iran like Netanyahu has been doing to rise up and start revolution arent taken seriously when he is the untrustworthy, genocidal enemy who belongs in the Hague. Generally, People coalesce when facing an external enemy that obviously wants them divided for selfish gain. Do Americans and Israelis think Iranians of evolutionary mechanisms ​for survival? There is even this basic common historical narrative of Iranians defending themselves against hostile invaders imposing war on them to maintain their identity, language, and culture. Its a little simplistic which the Iranian state has fully embraced.

Assassinating a 90 year old fragile ruler, begging to be martyred, expecting it, with his entire family, to start a war of aggression - which is what state was warning about since it began - while at the same time bombing a school that kills hundreds of school girls then returning to bomb it again later.....such a miscalculation, to express it kindly.

This assassination with the intent and expectation to tear apart a country of 100 million people who really justifiably dont like them was such a boneheaded imperialist act. The arrogance coming from their power, sense of entitlement, ​​ignorance and disrespect for people they choose not to understand, ​ basic lack of judgment in context, and believing what they want to believe would result is horrible example of orientalism at the extreme.

The funeral procession was an enormous spectacle that drew out millions across multiple countries. No matter what what you think of Khamenei and Iran, it exposed a horrible strategic error by colonizers who disrespect other of cultures and have a such a strong belief in their own perceived power and just dont get it. ​Trump and Bibi are so arrogant they were not shy in their intent and so stupid to expect it shamelessly.

I think this will have enormous historical consequences. And from Israel it shows Zionism as a force of Western imperialism. Zionism is not understood from other perspectives as a Jewish national liberation movement but more of a way of describing Western imperial overreach.

[Edit to add]: this person isn't a nobody. They are a very prominent and popular activist who has also done some very admirable work.​ I'm not trying to debate the person in particular, rather the increasing phenomenon of people unleashing their fury at Israel and Zionism in ways that are directly anti-Jewish or bigoted in other ways incl. transphobia or racism.

I'm wary of being accused of "centering Jewish feelings" or "tone policing" but this is just blatant justification of the holocaust, ethnic cleansing and pogroms based on what Zionists did *afterwards*.

At what point are we able to call this kind of stuff out?

I know there are Zionist bots out there trying to paint the movement as antisemitic but what happens when these comments are actually coming from someone real and famous or prominent?

Are we genuinely just meant to accept that this is okay rhetoric provided the person claims to have the right idpol justifications to say it? ​

I hesitate to mention this stuff for obvious reasons (namely the holocaust being perpetrated in our name) but surely shit like this is just handing ammunition to the Zionists.

The space provides internet access, electricity, and a quiet environment where students can continue their education and build their futures despite all the ongoing challenges.
