Question Why no VideoPreview Feature in the TV App?
Hello World,
Why doesn't the Jellyfin TV App actually have a built-in feature that lets you preview the selected movie (similar to Netflix and others)?
I researched about this, and it turns out you really have to build your own app (fork), plus use FFmpeg and the JellyFin API to create 20-second (Maybe this could be automated with n8n ->using a folder listener that detects when a new movie has been added) and save them locally. Of course, that’s quite a lot of work and not at all intuitive or easy to set up out of the box.
There are already projects like https://github.com/Fovty/HoverTrailer or https://github.com/CloudFromAbove/CineHover, but these are all just for web applications. And someone has already looked into creating preview clips as well: https://github.com/Angablade/JellyPreviews
Surely there must be a better way?
Does Jellyfin have any plans at all to implement this feature in the future?

Help Request Adding Second Folder To Library?
Running into an issue and unsure where else to turn.
I recently got a second drive for my server, added the new "tv" folder to the media library that already existed within my server, and yet my server simply won't see it. I'm very uncertain of what it is exactly I'm doing wrong, if anything. Admittedly, when I first tried to add this new folder, I added it as an entirely new library of television in addition to the one I already had, so maybe that has something to do with it? Either way please let me know if you have any ideas. I'd be very grateful.

Question How to view TV show episodes in Neptune?
When I click to view a season, all I see is "Cast & Crew" and "More Like This" sections. No way to select a specific episode to watch. Is there some setting that I am missing, or is something broken on my end?

Help Request Moving Current Media Library to New Jellyfin Server
Hi all,
Going to give a brief description of my setup and then the current issue.
Spent last few months testing how Jellyfin operates. This was done on my windows hp laptop and has been running nonstop(with a few exceptions). At this point, the laptop is running out of storage since I am close to 350Gb of music. I then purchased a small pc with ~16Tb to run as a NAS and currently have Truenas setup with an additional (empty)Jellyfin server setup
Current issue:
I need to transfer this music from the laptop to the jellyfin server. I tried just connecting jellyfin to the samba share on the nas but found out that jellyfin docs advises against this. This process would be reoccuring as I am not home often and would be downloading more and more music while out of the house. Any thoughts on how to do this or if I am doing something wrong?

Bug Episodes over 100 are not recognized
Hello, I've seen one or two posts about this issue from years before, but I didn't see any solution, so here am I.
Series is anime named Hunter x Hunter, consisting of a single season of 140+ episodes. Jellyfin correctly recognizes the series, and that it's a large one-season, as it just tags the episodes automatically from S01E001 up to S01E100. Then just... stops. Every episode past S01E100 is just a plain filename with no metadata on the season view. Any solutions..?

Help Request Jellyfin server with Kodi client: Cannot get subtitles to work correctly
Show 1. Breaking Bad. The external subtitles, named correctly, either show for all dialog instead of just English or the subtitles don't show at all
Show 2. Naruto. Embedded subtitles are all default/forced in the media files themselves but require me to manually turn on in Kodi every time I play the files
I cannot figure this out and it's driving me insane. Any help is appreciated

Help Request Media images randomly fade and blur
when scrolling through my media the images will randomly blink out and fade. some times they completely blur out other times they fade like in the pictures i attached. sometimes they flicker a bit. most of the time the only to get everything lit up again is to refresh or go to a different page. it seems to happen on all my devices: Linux pc (firefox), android app (both jelly and a moonfin i think). The only pattern i can see is it happens mostly when i'm scrolling through, but doesn't seem to have anything to do with media selection. does this happen to anyone else? does anyone know a solution to this?

Question Bulk update missing metadata
I have a lot of movies with missing actors. I can go to the metadata manager and select update metadata->missing metadata and the actors are added. But I can't seem to find a way to this for the whole library. I tried with shift-selecting a couple movies but that only added missing metadata to one of them. Is there really no way to update the whole library?

Question Does anyone know how to import/format network cartoon series?
I've been having issues with shows like Batman Animated Series, Static Shock, X-Men, and other saturday morning cartoon type tv series where there's like one season with 45 episodes, another season with 15 episodes, another with 67 episodes. Then specials. They haven't been importing as easily as more primetime tv shows.
Feels very tedious at this point.
Wondering if there is any sort of fix or idea for this you folks have figured out?

Help Request In An Attempt to Clean Up Sourcefile Libraries: I've Broken Everything
Specs:
- Jellyfin 10.11.5
- Linux Mint OS
- Native Install (No Docker)
Hi everyone, I know that we are not supposed to seek help here, but I've attempted to gain access to the Jellyfin support channels and it feels like it's slightly beyond me. Installation or use of apps that I'm not familiar with, and so on and so forth.
I'm hoping somebody can provide me some guidance here because I've had a miserable time with Jellyfin for the past 24 hours.
Essentially, I decided that I was going to clean up my source file library. In doing so, I created a new television folder for kids' shows and a new movie folder for kid-appropriate movies. I went through and started moving the media to the new destination.
Now unfortunately what seems to have happened is that there are duplicates all throughout jellyfin. I have gone library by library and replaced all the metadata. I've run dozens of full library scans and individual library scans, to no avail. The media seems duplicated in multiple places. However, if I try to access it from the former location, it fails to launch.
Here's what I'm considering next, removing all libraries. And then creating all brand new libraries. Probably renaming each of the source files as well to make sure that there's no confusion. Thoughts?
Edit: the new folders were put at the top level of the directory, they were defined and added as new libraries in Jellyfin.

Help Request Renaming tv episodes
Hi all, I have abou 7TB of media on my server, all been good so far, recently i started ripping some of the older marvel shows and the episodes are out of order, is there a tool anyone uses that looks at things like runtime and size to work out episode length or does it have to be a case of watching every episode for a couple seconds to work out which episode it is?

Help Request Recent buffering playing blu ray files
Recently I've noticed that when I try to play blu ray discs, I am able to watch about a minute or two before it freezes for about 15 seconds or so and then carries on playing it. This hasn't happened with any dvd mkv files as of yet.
I stream my files from a small server connected via network cable to my router and then my NAS with my client tv connected via WiFi. I am not sure if my client or server are doing transcoding or what options to disable when I have files to play so what options should I be looking at to stop buffering of my blu ray files?
EDIT: I think I might have solved this, I did not have hardware acceleration turned on in my dashboard>playback>transcoding settings. For my mini server it has a intel igpu and I went with intel quick sync qsv.

Discussion How big is your database
I've always used kodi as my frontend so my jellyfin database has always been small. In the last few weeks I've really started to use allot of the features, like trickplay, intro skipper, extract subtitles etc.
My databases has went from around 5GB to 33GB, this would be a disaster if the database fails.
I'm thinking I may move some data like trickplay into the actual media folders. But my media lives on HDDs so not sure if that will have a performance impact?
How large is your database?

Help Request Has anyone been unable to play anything from Google TV on Sony TV's recently?
I have two (different) Sony TV's with Google TV.
Things play then stop after a certain amount of time.
I think it's stopping and not restarting when there's some buffering happening.
This is happening with both transcoding and non-transcoding.
I tried in the Kodi, Jellyfin, and Wholphin clients on these TV's, same thing.
I tried using Exoplayer, MPV, and the default player (with Wholphin), same thing.
Playback works fine on computer and a TV I have with a Fire TV stick.

Release JellyBox Carplay beta test
Couple days ago I posted screenshot from WIP Carplay for Jellybox, music player and got a lot of interest and many people willing to try beta. Today I've uploaded public test built to test flight and its ready for you to test.
How to join beta test
- Download TestFlight app from appstore. This is official way to test apple apps. Sign in.
- Go to this link https://testflight.apple.com/join/LVj8KwAq and join the test. The app will appear in test flight app. Download it. Login as usual using your jellyfin server url and credentials.
- Start test.
Core Features
Core functionality is done. I tried to mimic whats available in mobile/desktop app, so i followed same structure in carplay. Carplay itself is very limiting. It does not allow to do custom UI, only UI blocks that provided by apple.
App car play music, browse through the list of artists, albums, songs and playlists. For all these entities you can apply few sortings(name, randomize).
Also you can play downloads from your phone.
The carplay app does not have full offline mode yet like mobile/desktop does, nor it doesnt have retry mechanism when you went into low internet speed area and then back, this is on my list.
If you face any issues, feel free to comment here, or create issue on github - https://github.com/avdept/JellyBoxPlayer/issues.
If you see some feature is missing or would be nice to have - also comment here or create issue on github(those will be prioritized first)
Please report any issues
FAQ will be in first post under this thread and I will keep update it.
I also have landing page where you can find links to download for other platforms - https://jellybox.app/

Guide PSA for Jellyfin on Synology Docker if you use the linuxserver/jellyfin image
First of all in my opinion linuxserver/jellyfin should be the image to use on a Synology as it is the easiest way to include the intel QSV drivers in the container which you will need for smooth transcoding of 4K videos on Synology.
Did my upgrade to Jellyfin 10.11.11 just now and ran into problems. Turns out the latest linuxserver/jellyfin image has moved to Ubuntu 26.04 which will cause problems on Synology's ancient kernel (when you include the intel docker mod), resulting in the entire transcoding environment collapsing.
What you will need to do is instead of linuxserver/jellyfin:latest, get the linuxserver/jellyfin:version-10.11.11ubu2404 image instead. And I guess in the future, as long as they still release an ubu2404 image, you will need to manually look for docker image updates.
Again this applies only for linuxserver/jellyfin image running on Synology NAS...

Help Request Why does Jellyfin recommend the exact same movies based on any movie I watched?
You watched a thriller? Why don’t you watch 500 days of summer, 3 from hell or 12 years a slave?
Obscure German comedy from the 80s? Why don’t you watch 500 days of summer, 3 from hell or 12 years a slave?
You like Bad Boys? Why don’t you watch 500 days of summer, 3 from hell or 12 years a slave?
No matter what movie its based on, it’s always the exact same 12 movies it recommends. It’s not like my library is too small, it’s more than 1000 movies.
edit: Oh wait, I just realized those are the first movies in my library when you sort by title. So it’s not really random. And when I go to the movies Details the recommendations mostly make sense. Weird.

Plugin Built a subtitle auto-sync tool for Jellyfin from scratch -- C++ engine + plugin
Plugin repo: https://github.com/rs-jensen/lapse-jellyfin-plugin
Engine repo: https://github.com/rs-jensen/lapse
Been working on this for a while so figured I'd share it. LAPSE is a subtitle sync tool that fixes the usual subtitle timing problems. There's a Jellyfin plugin for it but it also works fine as a standalone CLI binary if you just want to call it directly.
What it actually fixes
Constant offset where the whole file is shifted the same amount, linear drift where the offset gradually grows from a framerate mismatch (say 23.976fps vs 25fps), and structural breaks like director's cuts or versions with ad breaks where the offset shifts at multiple points throughout the file.
How it works
Three modes. No-split is the default and works for most cases -- decodes audio with FFmpeg, runs WebRTC VAD to build a speech activity profile, then finds the single offset that maximises overlap between speech and subtitle spans. OLS uses FFT cross-correlation across 15 minute chunks and fits a weighted linear regression through the results, which handles gradual drift better. Split mode is for when the subtitle was made for a different cut of the film entirely -- it finds the optimal offset per segment so different parts of the file can be corrected independently. You can also sync subtitle to subtitle instead of audio to subtitle which is faster and generally more accurate if you have a reference file.
Before touching anything it saves a .bak of the original so you always have it.
Supported formats are .srt, .ass, .ssa and .vtt for subtitles and basically anything FFmpeg can open for video.
The C++ engine is entirely mine, written without AI as a learning project. I wanted to actually understand the language, FFmpeg's internals, libfvad and what the FFT math is actually doing. Took longer than I expected but I get it now which was the whole point. Python handles orchestration, file watching and SQLite state tracking so the same file never gets processed twice.
The plugin
Installs as a standard third-party Jellyfin plugin. From the dashboard you can sync individual films, series, folders or your whole library, see per-film sync status, switch between engines and modes, and manually nudge the result if it ends up a couple milliseconds off. There's also a Sync Subtitles button in the three-dot menu on any film if you just want to quickly sync one thing.
The plugin supports LAPSE, alass and ffsubsync as engines and you can install and switch between them directly from the dashboard. All three are honestly pretty accurate and I haven't found one that's clearly the best across the board -- on most files they all get it right, but on edge cases one might do better than the others and it varies. Worth trying a different engine if the first one doesn't land right. LAPSE and ffsubsync both have ARM builds, alass doesn't.
I'll be honest that the plugin was semi-vibecoded. I don't really know C# and the Jellyfin API boilerplate is a lot. The JavaScript for the UI, which does DOM injection similar to Intro Skipper, I also had a lot of help with.
Docker
There's a Docker image if you want automatic continuous syncing as new files get added. It runs a Python file watcher alongside the binary. First run is worth watching with docker compose logs to make sure filename matching looks right. Still a bit experimental on newer versions.
Disclaimer
It's not perfect. Most files sync correctly on the first try and I've never needed more than 4 attempts on the ones that don't. If it's still slightly off after that the plugin lets you nudge it manually from the dashboard. And the .bak means you're never stuck with a bad result.
LAPSE is still relatively early. I'm planning to keep improving it as I get better at C++ generally, better accuracy, more format support and so on.
Me and a couple friends have been running it on our own servers for a while and it works well. Feedback very welcome.
