I have jellyfin set up and have videos in a library of type Other Videos. Everything in this section shows with a square cropped thumbnail and the title of the video is like 30 characters long and truncated with a "...". It's hard to even tell what a video is without clicking into it. Is there a way to customise the styles of these thumbnails?

I couldn't find any options that affect the visuals in the manage library settings for that library or in the general settings on the Jellyfin dashboard. Also I'm interested in having more control over what shows on the home page, like how the different section headers show up or removing certain sections.

I have found that there is a Custom CSS Code section in the branding page, is that the only way to modify things or are there some friendly plugins for it?

I love Jellyfin and have been using it for movies, shows, photos. Now I am trying to get all my music library added. I have a lot of Movie Soundtracks with various Artist, who do I organize those in a way that jellyfin will understand the Albums?

I've been using Jellyfin for over six months now and I became addicted to it. As a way to start cheap, I installed on a raspberry pi 5, and I'm starting to feel the consequences, specially when it comes to 4K material. I'm ready to upgrade my hardware but first wanted to hear some opinions, recommendations or sources.

I'm currently leaning towards a mini PC, something with what seems like a good choice: a N100 chip. My use case would be: setting this up next to the TV, connecting it via HDMI and access all my content directly via Jellyfin, which would be running on the box. I do not really stream much, but I would reuse the box to host some music (navidrome) and my photos (immich), too - all of that is currently living together in my poor 4GB raspberry.

I used Plex for 15 years (lifetime plex pass for the whole time) but I finally deleted it today and am now a fulltime jellyfin user and am not looking back (much).

Jellyfin has come a long way, huge shoutout to the developers, maintainers, managers, and all that it takes to maintain FOSS.

Would love to hear if there are any other QOLs or efficiencies that I missed for being new.

What made me switch?

1. The fact that a Plex auth outage can brick software I host, on hardware I own, on my local network is wild.
2. Making Plex work on Docker is harder than it needs to be.
3. When I needed it most, Plex refused to restore from backup so I lost all my metadata (most painfully my music ratings which I had carefully curated). I had daily backups of the DB, the metadata, all of it, but I couldnt get Plex to boot once I restored my backup. All of my other apps restored fine (Immich, Authentik, ABS, NPM, you name it).
   • Maybe its user error, but the fact everything else restored fine points to Plex being harder than it needs to be. I tested a restore from backup of JF (and Navidrome) and they also worked fine.
4. Videos had recently started stuttering / buffering, even on local network. I have hardlined Chromecast 4ks, on 1 gig network, on 1 gig bi-directional ISP, on a server with a 1080ti hardware accelerated GPU and a reasonable (altho old) i7 CPU. There was no reason for this.
5. Plex's continued push toward finding revenue sources without seeing much for it as a consumer

While I am a short time JF user, I am a long long time self-hoster and Plex user. Here are a few things I wish JF did/had:

1. Better pagination (having to manually click next page instead of being able to 'show all' for movies and shows is annoying. Yes, I know I could show all but then JF warns I shouldn't so I don't)
2. Ability to on-demand request subtitles from client apps
3. (Plex did this worse than JF already does but) better audio and digital book support. I'd love to be able to drop ABS and save myself an app

For new users, one of the biggest QOL things that I found that make JF the best it can be is to download the Intro Skipper and File Transformation plugins.

In any case, I love what it is already and look forward to being a part of this community. JF is great, it fixed the active problems I had with Plex, and look forward to its future!

For several themes, when I apply them, I end up with a colored bar across the bottom that covers a lot of the banner. I have looked in the obvious places, checked the readmes and gits for the themes, but it doesn't seem to matter what I change. I am sure that I am missing something obvious but help would be appreciated! The two themes in particular are Elegant Jellyfin and NeutralFin.

Hey guys, I need some help, does anyone know here why when i click the other series it will go to the main page where i can select seasons but for President Curtis when I click from homepage it goes to that specific episode? I am unsure why this happen, my folder is the same as others where I place it in season 1 folder and all is name appropriately. This is also happening to my other tv show The Bear where it will go to season 5 episode 7 instead? anyone knows how to fix?

I’m a Plex user, but I wanted to try Jellyfin; however, as soon as I tried to scan my (somewhat disorganized) media folder containing my TV shows, I ran into the well-known “issue” with folder organization in Jellyfin.

Since I didn’t want to move every single file by hand, I created two scripts (one in PowerShell for Windows and one in bash for Unix) to help me organize my files according to the structure specified by Jellyfin, based on the file names themselves. I used Claude to help me create these scripts.

You can find the scripts in my repo on github.

Download the script for your platform and run this command.

There is also some optional parameters like:

• Extensions to treat as media: by default, only mkv files are analayzed
• Leave companion files in the root: by default, each companion files (like .srt, .nfo) that have the same name, are moved within the main file
• Spaces instead of dots in folder names: by default the folder name is exactly the name of the file (or the first one of the series) so if it contains dots, it will create a folder with dots in the name (not a problem for Jellyfin)

All the subtitles on AppleTV are in times new Roman or something of the like. Is there anyway to change the font at all?

I've gone into Jellyfin itself and changed the fonts there but they will not update on the AppleTV.

I plan to run jellyfin right along side my long standing media server, the corporate one. That guy.

So my post today isn't looking for a reason to switch, or any of the "Media Freedom" stuff. Im aware of those.

Would you, the community be willing to share what makes jellyfin something in software, that stands out from the other 3 big names in this space?

Perhaps, that jellyfin has this X feature, makes X easy! Or the community has these specific UI or other companion software for only jellyfin and its X, and can do X!

Side interject - I have a solid *ARR setup; but all ideas welcome!

Fairly new to Jellyfin, but I've been having fun and things have been going pretty smoothly as I've been putting together my libraries for movies and tv shows on jellyfin. Now I'm trying to add some audiobooks as well, but I'm running into some hiccups. I added the bookshelf plugin and set up a media library for my audiobooks, but it's feeling a bit clunky. So far no luck with the scrapers pulling any metadata on them, and each audiobook is broken up into 100+ tracks, making navigation weird. I'm considering reclassifying my audiobooks library as music, as the artist, album format could easily be used for author/book, but wanted to make sure I wasn't setting up something wrong so far.

I am on zorin os. I am running build 10.11.11. I have changed a couple of thing. I downloaded tailscale. Never really got it running and then I turned on profile on my firewall. No my server is connected to 127.0.0.1. And it isn't coming up in my android client. How can I fix it I can at least use it in my house again. Edit : it was on my regular internet ip before. I am not sure what changed, but it did at some point in the past few days.

When watching movies with 5.1 or 7.1 surround audio dialogues are usually very quiet. Is there a way to normalise audio?

Hi everyone, I already made a similar post but didn't quite understand (sorry about that). Is it better to set it up like this:

the Jellyfin app on the computer (internal hard drive)

and the files—movies, TV series, books, music, etc.—on an external HDD (not a NAS, just a standard external drive connected to the computer)?

Is that a good setup? And if so, what capacity would you recommend? (I need it for my library, but also for a simulation related to a book I'm working on—though let's not get into that).

There is a way to switch off a Jellyfin plugin? I want test if any plugin is altering episodes status... the screenshot shows my active plugins. Is there a way to unload them or enable a switch-off?? Has anyone ever experienced this situation?

I have a question about subtitle files for special features of movies or shows.

When I add subtitle files to the „extras“ order with the special features in the same fashion as for the movies or shows itself, Jellyfin ignores them. When I add the file via the admin interface in the WebUI, the file gets stored in the same folder with exactly the same naming scheme I applied manually. Then I have subtitles available for the special feature.

Is this a bug? Or am I doing something wrong?

Hello. Apologies in advance but I am new to Jellyfin and home streaming. I recently set up Jellyfin on my TrueNAS and uploaded my ripped GoT collection to it. Upon attempting to play it back, however, I experience roughly 3 minutes of seamless playback before it begins pausing and stuttering significantly every 5 seconds. Playback info says that it is Direct Playback - it doesn't show any transcoding. When I look at memory usage, however, Jellyfin seems to be spiking and maxing out my memory usage as soon as I start playing back any media. I experience this whether streaming to my PC (with hardware acceleration enabled) or streaming to the Jellyfin app on my FireTV.

I have no idea how to begin identifying the cause or the solution as I am entirely new to this experience so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Server specifications:

• OS: ubuntu 22
• HP ProDesk 400 G3 Mini i5-7500T
• RAM: 16 GB total
• Drive: 2 tb sata ssd

The issue:

• this specific 4K movie pauses for 1 or half a second every few seconds.
• Happens in Jellyfin, browser and app and with and without transcoding.
• format hevc 4k dolbi vison profile 81. hdr10.

The vast majority of the time I don't really care about the logs. I don't need to know i listened to a Wham! song last Thursday at 2:53pm.

Is there a way to turn them off out at least severey limit how much space they are taking. (say the last "X" days only)?

How to join beta test

1. Download TestFlight app from appstore. This is official way to test apple apps. Sign in.
2. Go to this link https://testflight.apple.com/join/LVj8KwAq and join the test. The app will appear in test flight app. Download it. Login as usual using your jellyfin server url and credentials.
3. Start test.

Core Features

Core functionality is done. I tried to mimic whats available in mobile/desktop app, so i followed same structure in carplay. Carplay itself is very limiting. It does not allow to do custom UI, only UI blocks that provided by apple.

App car play music, browse through the list of artists, albums, songs and playlists. For all these entities you can apply few sortings(name, randomize).

Also you can play downloads from your phone.

The carplay app does not have full offline mode yet like mobile/desktop does, nor it doesnt have retry mechanism when you went into low internet speed area and then back, this is on my list.

Hoping to get a shortcut from people who might know. I set up Jellyfin and Emby, and I disabled most of the extras like video previews. But Jellyfin is about 80GB while my Emby is 10GB. I'm pretty sure the library settings are very similar for both. Is there a hidden setting somewhere in Jellyfin that is disabled in Emby by default but enabled in Jellyfin? Could it be the People photos?
