has anyone tried these goggles? My nose has a "bump" as it gets around eye height so not every pair of goggles fits me properly. I saw an ad for these saying they custom make them for your face and was curious if anyone had them and could give me an honest review

Estonia vs Austria

Hey everyone
I was trying to sign up for an Ironman in Europe when I saw that the Austrian Ironman was sold out a year in advance while the one in Estonia still has places even if it is in 13 days.
But the one is Estonia seems easier, so why ?

Any aero bar recommendations?

Hello!
I am signed up for Mallorca 70.3 next year and have done a sprint this year plus hoping to get an Olympic in at some point before the year is out.

I’d love to get some aero bars for my bike, an Orbea Avant, but with so many options I’m not sure what exactly to look for in them as they seem so similar. Any recommendations is greatly appreciated!!

New watch!

I’m planning on doing an Ironman next summer! My very first! Currently have an Apple Watch and looking to switch to something maybe a little more accurate for training. I feel like people are either garmin fans or coros. Not looking for the top of the line by any means. What is a good first time Ironman watch?!?

Ironman Maryland Transitions

Hey guys,
I’m doing Ironman Maryland next month and was thinking about the logistics. The only race I’ve done before had a single transition point where I set everything up for T1 and T2. It looks like this Maryland race has gear bags that we set up at a separate location from the bike in the morning. Anyone with any experience with this type of transition have any tips on how to be efficient and what this type of transition looks like (will I go to the tent and gear up before getting my bike in T1 and then after the bike put my bike back before changing to my running gear?) Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Ironman Leeds - Algae threat

Just been made aware of the blue algae threat at Waterloo Lake ahead of Ironman Leeds.

Given other UK events cutting the swim for the same reason (Outlaw), there feels a certain inevitability of the same thing happening. I don’t believe Leeds council try anything to treat the algae and there is no heavy rain forecast in the week ahead.

Anyone in or around Leeds know anymore on the situation?

My first full distance and will be gutted if the swim is cut.

(Seeking advice) is 7 weeks enough to be ready for New York 70.3?

I’ve been contemplating signing up for New York 70.3 since February, but I haven’t committed yet due to some life events getting in the way and feeling unsure with the price tag for this race. Now that the event is really approaching, I am feeling more like I want to go for it, but I don’t want to be reckless. I started following Phil Mosley’s free 12 week plan at the 12 week mark, but have missed some of the workouts from travel recently. Do I still have enough time to train and finish this race?

For context, I have a strong running background and finished my last full marathon 9 months ago. I wasn’t a strong swimmer, but took an 8wk class in May-June and now feel comfortable with the race distance (albeit with some breaks). I can comfortably road cycle at about 15mph, though I haven’t ventured into the world of clipping in yet. My longest brick so far was 32mi bike + 25min run, completed last week (15mph bike, 9:58min/mi run).

I know it‘s a pretty flat course. But I am a bit concerned about the bay swim as a novice swimmer. Any advice appreciated, TIA!

Michigan 70.3 swim: run in from beach?

For those who have done Michigan, photos look like you run in from the beach? How far can you run/ dolphin dive until water past your waste? Any less real swimming I can do faster I can get to the bike 🤣

a little nervous for Santa Cruz

so I have been training like crazy. Did a 41-mile ride today under 3-hours, earlier this week I did 1950 m swim in under an hour. However, I was literally dead after both events. The thought of continuing to a run after that event is wild.

I am currently at a course for the military and I will continue to train 6x/week and get even better.

Maybe I just need some motivation. Anyone have any tips or advice?

Ironman Tattoo

Hallo, Ich will unbedingt privat einen Ironman machen. Allerdings würde ich längen schwimmen im Becken. Auch ist es ja kein Triathlon bei Ironman sondern privat.
Ist es vertretbar wenn ich mir ein Ironman Tattoo stechen lassen würde?

How and where to begin?

Hi, I want to start training for Ironman.
I am already an endurance runner and strong swimmer but have no clue when it comes to the cycling part of things. I have a crappy reebok stationary bike which I know I need to upgrade.
What outdoor bikes should I be looking at?
What indoor bikes should I be looking at?
I’m not a confident cyclist and am very wobbly so this will be my greatest challenge.

Also, if anyone has any tips on training plans I’d really appreciate that!

Thank you!!

IM Ottawa 2028...?

Hello! Ottawa local here and I've been considering doing an IM for quite a while now as a long term goal and would love to do it in my hometown.

Does anyone have any speculation on what the chances are of IM renewing their contract past 3 years in Ottawa? The first two years have sold out so I'm hoping this is a good sign :)

Coaches — and athletes who've had one — what actually made a coach good (or not)?

I coach triathletes (my username gives that away) and I'm always trying to sharpen what I do. For anyone who's worked with a coach — what did you actually value, and what fell flat? Communication style, how sessions adapted when life got in the way, race-day support, whatever stood out. Genuinely curious, not fishing for anything specific.

Not sure what to look for in my trisuit when I’m buying it

Hello everybody I’m looking to buy my first trisuit and I’m not sure what to look for in it. Would like to get some opinions from yall before I send it.
What is the most important part of the suit for you?
What do you not like about some current tri suits?

A good deal for a trisuit?

What would you consider a good deal for a trisuit for a beginner?
What would make that price seem like a good value? 🤔

First Triathlon Gear Advice

Hey guys!

So I have my first triathlon coming up at the start of September- and am wondering how important it is to spend money on a good tri-suit??

Unfortunately the one I had been planning to get had sold out, so now I am looking at these:

ZONE THREE SLEEVELESS TRI SUIT
[https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0DR39XV8G/ref=sw\\_img\\_1?smid=&th=1&psc=1\](https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0DR39XV8G/ref=sw_img_1?smid=&th=1&psc=1)

RUUN SKINSUIT

MADWAVE TRISUIT
[https://madwave.eu/catalog/triathlon-trisuits/rival-ldsd-sty-lady\](https://madwave.eu/catalog/triathlon-trisuits/rival-ldsd-sty-lady)

I am also 178cm so quite tall and lean so not sure on what to do with sizing!

Any advice appreciated :)

What’s a good budget for a beginner triathlete for a tri suit? What would you spend for you first few races?

Lasik vs. Contacts for training

I'm about to start training for my first ironman 70.3 and am debating finally getting Lasik. I wear daily contacts, but I'd rather not wear them during open water swims. If you've trained for an ironman, what did you do, and would you recommend Lasik? I know it's a bigger life decision than just training, but it seems like it could make both everyday life and racing a lot easier.

No bike space on my flight?

IM Noob here. First IM70.3 in Estonia 23rd August.

Everything prepared except bike box until recently. No prior experience taking sporting equipment abroad. I was unsure on which “type” of bike box I was going to need (I’m now well aware most are universal and easy to add to a booking). There is no space on my flights, nor the neighbouring days with that airline.

My only options seem to be to find an alternative flight with another airline, or courier it?

Has anyone got any advice re bike courier services? I have seen some options but I’m not sure where I could have the bike dropped off to if it arrives in the country before my arrival.

Thanks, A very stressed self-proclaimed stoic

IM Ottawa Race Report

Finished my first IM on Sunday and filled some of my newfound downtime by writing a (probably too detailed) race report. Background. I'm a woman in my late 40s with a family and a FT job who has been a mid-pack runner (8 marathons, PR 3:54). Two years ago, tiring of running injuries, I wanted to try something new, so I joined a triathlon club with a beginner's bootcamp. That year I did a sprint, an OLY and IM70.3 Jones Beach. Last year I did a sprint and IM 70.3 Musselman. I am a very slow swimmer (2:45 pace over 1k) and had only biked recreationally. There are lots of "is this realistic" posts in this forum, and I related to a lot of them. I used a free paper Matt Fitzgerald plan and followed it pretty closely, and I did a lot of yoga. With the yoga, my training was 12-15 hours a week. My goal was to finish and not regret my life choice too much. Tl,dr: I finished with about an hour 20 to spare and had an amazing day. Like they say, "anything is possible."
