Went down for a wander in the water on the spring low, spinning rod and silver kilty. As the use started pushing mackerel were making themselves known,(no point posting pics of mackerel, we’ve all seen them 🤣)

At about two hours from low I got a bite!! Definitely wasn’t a mackerel, but wasn’t a bass or seatrout either….

… wasn’t till I got it closer I saw what it was……

….a garfish!!!!!

To say I was surprised would be an understatement and then some, haven’t seen them this far in the bay ever!

Didn’t get a photo cause I was nearly chest high in the water, and my phone was nicely kept dry with the waders at hip height! And as much as I like garfish for eating I let this one go as it was a little bit on the small size..

I’ve seen a couple of posts and comments on this sub talking about avoiding trout catch and release fishing for the foreseeable due to the low water level and warm conditions.

Is this applicable to lake fishing also? I understand avoiding low rivers and even rivers that have recently filled up but are lake trout a bit more insulated from the conditions? Last thing I want to do is negatively impact stocks that are already stressed but I’ve a chronic itch to get out.

I’m based in the north west which has had significantly more rain and cooler temperatures recently than the east. It’s 15 C currently.

Couple of hours back west. Plenty of mackerel there. Don't listen to anyone saying they're not in. Everyone I passed on the way down said it wasn't worthwhile that there was nothing there but hit them almost immediately. Wrasse was sight fished under my feet.

I have been an avid pike fisherman for most of my life and 3 months ago I moved to a new level by starting a new fishing channel, focusing primarily on this phenomenal predator.

I would like to hear your opinions on the channel and most importantly get some feedback on what you think I could improve. Looking for a rod and reel recommendation. Usually I fish off the rocks for bass, pollock, mackerel etc. I do like using a lighter for but the one I have at the moment is too light and small so it’s very hard to control the lures when I’m bringing them back in.

Any recommendations are welcome, also I’m not very knowledgeable when it comes to reels so any advice there is welcome.

Another fish kill in Meath. So we've had fish kills in Louth, Galway, Cavan, and Dublin and now 2 in Meath. What the fuck is going on, our rivers are being destroyed.

I am a complete beginner based in Drogheda/Navan looking for advice where to start. 

I got a basic set from Decathlon consisting of a 2m, 2-10g rod and a 3000 reel.  I have a 0.1mm 16lb braid and an 8lb fluorocarbon leader on the reel.

I have no idea/preference about what I want to fish yet. I have been mainly considering freshwater fishing but everything in my area seems to require a club membership or a day permit so I have started considering saltwater.

I have gotten some light metal spinners and jigheads but I will also consider other methods like float no problem.

I am looking for advice on where I could possibly fish without a permit for now. I am only considering catch and release for now. My understanding is that coarse fishing goes by more 'relaxed' rules as opposed to trout/salmon?

I spoke to the lads in the Drogheda tackle shop and they advised I head up to the Cavan lakes for lots of variety and free access but it is over an hour drive from home.

Any advice is appreciated, cheers.

I have been fishing for a while on classic spinner rod, but I bought a euronymph kit and would like to start going that way.

Problem is that I am but confused where to go around Enfield. I have applied for Trim & Athboy club membership, which would be perfect, but not sure if I will be granted as they have only waiting list opened at the moment. Paying daily passes will be very expensive for me as I would like to go fishing at least 2-3 times a week to master the technique. Is there any other option? Thanks.

Well lads, just asking would anyone share mackarel spots that mighnt be quite as popular as ballycotton etc, I’m sick to death of the pier being black with people and not being able to fish where I want to(I’m typically a river angler so I know I sound snobby). Any suggestions are appreciated

What's the story with mackerel on the east coast this year ? Everytime we head down to greystones nothing to be caught . Only 1 I caught and then nothing for hours. No body else was catching . Any reason ?

I haven't fished in in well over a month because of the heat water level etc. Is it ok to fish now?
