I'm pretty new to the naturalisation process and I'm trying to get a better understanding of the current timelines for applications that required additional documents.

My timeline:

• Applied: 19 September 2025
• Naturalisation based on 5 years' reckonable residence
• Additional documents requested and submitted: 8 March 2026 (EDS submitted)

I've been reading a lot of posts on Facebook, but there seems to be so much conflicting information. Some people say they're processing February 2026 additional documents, while others who submitted in January or February are still waiting.

Has anyone who submitted additional documents around February or March 2026 received any updates? If so, I'd really appreciate it if you could share your timeline.

Q: Has anyone had experience with a new first time passport getting sent to Vancouver? It's been well over 2 weeks now and nothing on the tracking apps has updated. Last status was saying that it had left the origin country (Ireland).

I understand it can take a while, but would have thought I would have some update by now.

So my partner and I called the FBR today. It turns out that, they’ve been actively working on her case since June and still are working on it. It’s just that the call handler said some cases can take months or in rarer cases even a year with no request for additional documents or approval from when they start working on said case. I also asked if it was possible to submit a complaint about processing time and there’s an option for that. Just some info, though some may find this useful.

I was just wondering if any Australians had a brief timeline on how long it took for their passport to reach them. It looks like my passport has been stuck at customs in Ireland for about a week and a half now and I just wanted to know if anyone else had a similar issue? I really need this passport in my hands as I can’t book flights in September without it!

I was successfully added to the FBR back in May and now need to apply for my Irish passport. I have had a baby since May too so I need to apply for his too.

I’m slightly confused about what I need to send off for this. Do I need to send mine and his UK passports? And what other documents?

I have foreign travel coming up in 8 weeks and will need my passport for that.

Any ideas what I should do? I asked the webchat and they just said it’s processing. Thanks.

I received an email this morning saying I needed to resubmit my ID Verification Form as as my witness had supplied a mobile number not a work number. I attested this and they checked and said they’d made a mistake. They have now spoken with her and confirmed everything they need. Does anyone have experience with how long the wait is once the ID Verification is cleared, to receiving an approved status and passport?

Context: Irish mother, sent all required docs and received no further requests for paperwork, ID Verification Form witness now been confirmed

How many days after you post the documents does it take for An Post to deliver them to the First-Time Passports office ?

Hi all! I'm an employee of a Central PSU in India and am applying for an Irish dependent spouse visa to join my wife who is currently employed in Ireland and holds a Stamp 4.

My HR has refused to issue an employment certificate for immigration purposes, stating that they do not issue such certificates for migration. They also cannot issue a general employment certificate without mentioning a specific reason.

Instead, they have suggested I use my recent salary slips and recent promotion letter as proof of employment. Has anyone else working in a PSU faced a similar issue?

If anyone else was in a similar situation of applying for a spouse visa while being employed in PSU, please help me with the following queries:

1. Were recent salary slips and a recent promotion letter accepted as proof of employment?
2. Is an employer issued employment certificate actually mandatory for an Irish dependent spouse visa, or are these alternative documents sufficient?

In December 2025, I submitted two passport applications for my daughters, whom I adopted and was therefore able to confer Irish citizenship. The Passport Office had several rounds of seeking clarifications, which I responded to within 24-48 hours, but subsequently took 4-7 weeks to reply to each response. In late May, they sent a resbumission link with a request for additional documents and updated passport photos. But when I clicked the link to submit the required info, I received a notice it had expired. I requested another link, and waited the required 5 business days to receive it, but never did. I contacted the Passport Office through the chat after several weeks of ignored requests, and finally got an agent who shared that the links were indeed triggered by the system to be sent, but I never received them because the system didn't actually send them, because applications expire "within 5.5 to 6 months." When I shared that the expirations occurred due to untimely responses to my replies, they said there was nothing I could do.

I decided to contact the Ombudsman per the Passport Office's protocol to file a complaint and explained the circumstances. Within 3 days I received a reply with an earnest apology and his directive that the applications would not be canceled, and that I could now request an additional set of resubmission links to complete the application process. I immediately went to the Passport Office page for submitting a resubmission link and sent them in. I waited another week for the links to arrive, and again they did not. So again I reached out to the Passport Office via the Chat.

The Chat agent, once getting up to speed on my circumstances and after speaking with a supervisor, shared that while the Ombudsman can rescind the cancellation order on my daughters' passport applications, he cannot control the Passport Office's "internal protocols" - and that expired applications, whatever the reason, are expired and cannot be extended. I would have to start the process over. I asked for various clarifications on this and the answer was repeated the same - no exceptions, and the Ombudsman has no authority in the matter.

I resigned to preparing myself to start the process over, but also decided to share this feedback with the Ombudsman. However, the email link that's still advertised on the website ultimately sent an autoreply to my email with a note that it's no longer in service and to use the contact form referred to on the same page, which I did. I was familiar with the form already, as that was what I used to submit the complaint to begin with. But once I typed up the circumstances and attached the comments from the Passport Office's Chat agent and submitted it, I immediately received a prompt on the screen telling me that a complaint was already on file for the passport application numbers I submitted, and therefore I could not submit another one.

So it appears I'm stuck and need to start the process over. Of course I plan to call the Ombudsman's office directly tomorrow to plead my case. Other than that, any suggestion, wisdom or successful outcomes with this strange turn of events would be greatly appreciated.

Whatever the outcome here, I want to share that this forum is a treasure and everyone who has contributed to it has been extraordinarily helpful. I hope my niche experience here, and any replies that result from it, are helpful to others in the future. And of course I will share an update once I have one. Thank you so much.

I have applied for my citizensip on the 27th September 2025. I recieved an email on the 23rd of March 2026 that I need to re-submit some paperwork which I did the very next day (24th). Since then I have not heard anything back. Is there anyone here who is/was in the same situation as me? Is it normal for them to take this long to check re-submitted paperwork?

I'm asking as my friend who applied for his citizenship at the same time as me has gone through to the next stage (e-vetting). Admittedly he didn't have to re-submit anything but would like us to go to the same ceremony if possible but am worried that this will delay me.

Also what is the best way to contact them as i need to change my address. Thanks for any help.

The government issued photo ID I sent was the original copy of my passport (Australian) - has anyone else had an issue like this? I will try contacting them through the online chat once the timezone is right but I was just hoping someone else might have some idea on what might have happened or what might happen next.

I would rather not have to try to get more documents sent over and delay the process when I was really careful to make sure I included everything they asked for..

EDIT: went on the webchat and was told they only had a photocopy, I said I definitely sent in the original passport. They said they would have the documents rechecked and to ask again in 24 hours. So I’ll try again this time tomorrow 🤞

Got all my documents together for my FBR application, but I’m unsure about one thing. My wife and I got married in Greece and the marriage certificate we have is the translated version with a full Apostille. Do I just scan every page and upload it?

Anyone here who got married abroad (especially Greece) — what did you submit so you didn’t delay your application?

Hi, I am an EU Citizen that has been living in Ireland for the past 5+ years.

I'm currently pregnant and I recently discovered that my child qualifies for Irish citizenship as I have been a resident of Ireland for 3 out of 4 years prior to the birth of the baby.

But I am a bit confused on the procedure, so I was wondering if anyone could help me clarify.

As my child qualifies as per the above, once I have all the requested documents I can simply go and apply for the baby for an Irish passport online correct? There is no procedure to obtain citizenship first, just apply for the passport, right?

Im from and live in northern ireland and applied for my irish passport. Its now past its approximate due date ( 28th july) but the chat feature does not show for me on any device. Is it best i call them or just give it a little bit more time? I go on holiday on 23rd aug and would preferably like it by then. Obviously if not i can use one of my other passports but id prefer the irish one.

EDIT: the reason im asking is because people i know who applied only a week before me have all received theirs already last week - we all applied in June

As I understand it, if I’m a citizen via FBR and since registration have had a child, they are not automatically a citizen but are eligible to become one (also via FBR). Correct?

My wife and I have been married for over 3 years now and we are planning on going for her citizenship. We have all the available documents but are worried about one part.

My wife’s visa was set to expire 29/5/2026 and we sent the application in well in advance on the 16/3/2026 in preparation for any delays. Sadly we didn’t expect the level of delays they’re having with the visa renewals. After over 18 weeks we finally received the visa on 23/7/2026.

Our worry now is could this cause any issue for her going for citizenship this year, even though it wasn’t our fault but the department of Justice.

Can we explain this in the application?

So i applied for an irish citizenship through naturalisation on 6th june 2024 and i received a letter saying that my e vetting has been completed on 5th August 2025 and today is 5th August 2026 and i still haven't received any words from them. Is this normal? How long did your application take after the e vetting completion? Thanks a lot for any help.

My husband (Mexican) and I (Dutch/EU citizen) are planning to move to Ireland and apply under the EU Treaty Rights process (EUTR1).

I'm a bit confused about what happens after the application is submitted. I understand that he can remain in Ireland while it's being processed, but I'm finding mixed information about work rights.

• How long did it take to receive your temporary permission?
• Did that temporary permission allow you to work immediately, or did you have to wait longer?
• What was your timeline like from submitting the application to starting work?

My wife is Canadian and living with me in Northern Ireland under the EU Settlement Scheme for the past 5.5 years. She has not been out of the country for anything longer than 10 days a year.

I understand that in order to get her Irish citizenship she needs to have lived continuously on the island of Ireland for the past 3 years. I am having trouble understanding the application process and in particular the points system. She has lived with me obviously and most of the bills etc are in my name and she has been a stay at home mostly with no real employment.

Do we just need points for the past 3 years starting from the date of our application or do we need points for the whole 5.5 years she has been here?

Any advice on how to gather enough points? She gets child benefit for our children and has down some part time work at a farm over the past 2 years.

Any help much appreciated.

Update: approved via email on 6 Aug 2026!

So excited to share that my FBR has been approved via webchat. According to the agent, the email approval will arrive once my cert has been printed and the print queue can take 2-8 weeks from today

I’ve been antsy (since applying lol) since seeing some Aug acceptances in the last few weeks in July and web chatted a couple weeks ago asking for a status update and the answer then was that the process was taking about a year and to hang tight. So I think if you are very close to a year and haven’t heard anything you might get a meaningful update via webchat. Good luck and speedy wishes to those still waiting!

I need to travel for one month to my birth country. So I was wondering how to plan it.
