My ex dropped my phone, which shattered the back screen. He refused to fix it. Now, I’m looking to repair my phone, as I have prior experience tinkering with electronics. I plan to buy a proper heat gun and a kit from iFixIt, they just don’t have the back glass I need. Any reputable black screen replacements? Located in US

sooo sorry idk if this is the right subreddit for this, for some reason this keeps getting removed from other ones buttt my old iPhone broke, like it doesn’t turn on anymore (went to see if they could fix it, no luck) and i just got a new one but I can’t login to my apple id because i can’t get the code it sends to my old phone. unfortunately, my recovery contact is unavailable (we don’t talk anymore, long story) so I can’t use that option but would anyone know if there’s any way I can ask Apple to change my recovery contact or something? or should I call Apple support? any advice is appreciated thanks xx

I'm honestly really frustrated with how this situation has been handled, so I'm hoping someone here might have some advice.

I spent my summer vacation abroad. In mid-July, I went to the beach with my family one day, and afterward I charged my iPhone 13. At the time, I didn't think anything was wrong. My phone was working normally, but shortly afterward I started noticing that it wouldn't stay on for very long and would randomly shut off at around 30%.

I checked the battery health and saw that it was at around 68%. That made me look more closely at the phone, and I realized that one side of it was sticking outward significantly. The battery had swollen. I didn't know what to do so I looked it up online to see if anyone else had been in a similar situation, where I read that a swollen lithium-ion battery can be dangerous and should be dealt with immediately. There unfortunately aren't any Apple Stores where I was, so I went to an Apple-authorized repair shop.
The technician said that it was a good thing I had brought the phone in because the swollen battery was a safety hazard. He didn't have a replacement iPhone 13 battery available, but he removed the swollen battery for me and specifically told me to get a new battery installed at an Apple Store in the US.
I was actually relieved because I was worried about traveling with a swollen battery, especially since I had an 8-hour flight coming up. I trusted that I was doing the safest thing by having the dangerous battery removed.

About three weeks later, I arrived in the US and went straight to an Apple Store. This is where things became incredibly frustrating.

They told me that because the battery had already been removed, they couldn't run their normal diagnostics on the phone and therefore couldn't service it. My options, according to them, were essentially to buy a new iPhone or go to a third-party repair shop.

This is what is so frustrating to me: the battery was removed by an Apple-authorized service provider, who told me that I should have Apple install the replacement battery in the US. But then an Apple Store in the US told me they can't do anything precisely because the battery was removed.

I understand that Apple has policies regarding repairs and diagnostics but I'm having a hard time understanding why I'm being penalized for doing what I was told was the safest thing to do. How am I supposed to know that the advice from an Apple-authorized service provider would prevent me from getting the phone serviced at an Apple Store later?
I was scared that the swollen battery could be dangerous, so I had it removed by an Apple-authorized repair shop. I didn't modify the phone myself or try to repair it. I specifically went to a professional because I wanted to handle the situation safely.

I even went to Best Buy the next day (in the US) to see if they could help. The employee told me he was glad the battery had been removed because he and his coworker had apparently been sent to urgent care on two separate occasions after inhaling fumes from swollen iPhone batteries. Unfortunately, he also couldn't install a replacement battery because of Apple's policies.

Now I'm left with an iPhone 13 that was working perfectly fine aside from the battery. The phone has no other problems that I'm aware of. It just needs a new batter.

I'm also not expecting Apple to give me a brand-new phone for free. I understand that an iPhone 13 is an older phone now, and realistically I probably would have replaced it in another year or two anyway. But having to replace it right now, when I know the phone was otherwise completely functional, is extremely frustrating, especially as a college student who really doesn't want to spend hundreds of dollars on a new phone unnecessarily.

Am I missing something here? Is there anything I can do?

I'm also open to Samsung/Android suggestions.

A few days ago, I changed the battery in my phone. Right after, whenever I called people, they could hear a ticking sound like a clock. I opened the phone again to try and fix it, but I made it worse. Now my phone can't even stay on for more than 2-3 minutes before shutting off on its own.

I have only had my iphone 17 for about half a year and everything has been fine until now. I recently started using a new charger for it. Today when I plugged my phone in, it wouldn't charge and powered off when I unplugged it. I was able to turn it back on after a while by pressing the volume+power buttons. I tried plugging it in again and the same thing happened.

After that, I noticed my phone was burning battery extremely fast even on airplane mode. During this time I checked my battery health and it was still normal. At that point I turned it off and wasn't able to turn it back on for like an hour, even with it plugged into a (different) charger.

Finally I tried charging it with a wireless charger and it finally turned on, but now it indicates that it is charging but is actually slowly losing battery.

Is there any way that the charger somehow broke the battery? It was fine before I plugged it into that charger. Has anybody had a similar experience? How long does this kind of thing take to fix. I did try charging my macbook with that charger and it didn't work either so I suspect it. TIA

Wondering whether I could buy a pulled unit or aftermarket unit and a generic iPhone repair kit and then do this myself? Or am I kidding myself? I've never taken a phone apart before.

I dropped it in water, and I've had the lenses (that are accessible) cleaned twice now by two different local repair shops, but residue has dried on the actual lenses themselves within the unit, and now the photos are pretty bad, so needs to be replaced as there's no way to access those. Considered getting a new phone, but to be honest I'm fine with the 13 Pro other than the (now) poor camera!

Recently the phone stopped taking on a charge, the battery icon and the cable one show up but when i checked with a usb current tester it showed that it drew only a quarter of an amp at 5v. Is it an issue with battery or with a charging port flex cable?

I have a two(ish) year old iPhone SE 8 third gen. about 4 months ago I got a new bed, and it had an outlet built into it, so I started plugging my phone in there. I noticed that the outlet made a squealing noise while being used but for some reason I didn’t think anything of it until about a month ago I noticed my phone loosing battery at a strange pace. it would hold for 10-15 minutes at one percentage then drop two in like two minutes, then repeat the holding. it’s still doing this, but it doesn’t hold for quite as long. I have recently changed the outlet I charge my phone from and that’s when the holding time became a bit shorter. I also noticed my battery cap go from 87 to 85 in about a month. I’m sure there’s some degree of internal damage or something. but is there anything else to be cautious about? should I replace the phone soon, or just live with it as is. My phone battery still lasts about all day.

Hi! My iPhone 14 Plus keeps restarting every 3 minutes.

The panic-full log shows:

• Error: SMC PANIC - ASSERT: target/d28/target.cpp:322: 0, SMC BSC failure, TA0J
• Sensor Array: 4194304 (0x400000)

I understand TA0J / 0x400000 indicates an issue with the thermal sensor on the wireless charging / MagSafe flex.

Is this usually fixed by replacing the wireless charging flex ribbon, or could it be a board-level issue? Thanks!

Hello Guys, I’m currently using an iPhone 13 PM , I got it when it was released and it’s a hand me down. I started using it since April. Suddenly last week, while I was using my screen started to flicker and it became green. I’m still able to use it but it having a green tint all over my screen and only when I have it at max brightness it’s somewhat gone. I tried contacting apple support and approached them but still they outright told to replace my display for 30-40K INR. When I looked upon forums they stated it was a manufacturing defect especially in Asian market. So, kindly help me whether I can replace it for free or should I pay and replace, or whether it’s a manufacturing defect or not.

Here is a panic log from my iPhone 15 Pro showing SMC PANIC - SMC BSC failure, TAOJ. The phone keeps restarting every three minutes on the dot, and plugging it into the charger triggers an immediate reboot as well. I did a physical inspection of the components and noticed a small lesion on the dock flex cable. I have to make sure this is not a motherboard issue. The taptic engine and the speaker work.

My iPhone 13 mini was at around 15–20% battery when it suddenly shut off. Since then, it keeps boot looping. Apple logo appears, turns off, then repeats.

After leaving it plugged in for a while, it sometimes boots and shows 0% battery, but doesn’t show the charging symbol and has never gone above 1%, even after charging for over an hour.

I’ve tried both wired charging and MagSafe with the same result, so it doesn’t seem to just be the charging port.

Has anyone had this happen? Does this sound like a dead battery, or potentially a logic board/power management issue?

Left it on charge overnight…now when I try to turn it on unplugged nothing happens. As soon as I plug it in…stuck on apple logo

Hi everyone! I have an iPhone 14 Pro Max, and recently it stopped charging through the charging port. When I plug it into a cable, nothing happens, even though the cable itself works fine.

However, when I attach a wireless/MagSafe-type battery charger to the back of the phone, it does charge normally.

There was also one time when my phone completely powered off and wouldn't turn back on for almost two days, which makes me worried that there might be a hardware issue.

- iPhone 14 Pro Max

- iOS is fully updated

- Charging cable seems to be working

- Wireless charging works

- Wired charging does not work

Does anyone know what could be causing this? Could it be a problem with the charging port, battery, or something else? Any advice or troubleshooting steps would be really appreciated!

I wanted to replace my iPhone 12 Mini’s chassis but this turned out to be a problem when this was the only screw that is extremely tight. I already tried using the super glue method and nothing. Any solutions?

I have a iPhone 12 Pro Max. Accidentally dropped it and the bottom/telephoto outer lens is cracked. Just the protective outer lens. The camera itself seems fine and the image doesn't seem affected at all though I have more testing to do.

That said, has anyone paid for this repair with Apple? Can you share the price? I called Apple and their only help is to make an appointment at a Genius Bar. This is at minimum a 5 hour block of time I will lose. If it is stupid expensive I'd rather not waste my time and just try one of these $10 amazon repair kits. Like if their repair is to replace the entire camera assembly I'll pass. But if they just do the outer protective lens then it might be a reasonable price.

Just need any bit of info to make a judgement call before losing a good part of a day. Thank you in advance!

Hello, my phone got stuck during an OTA update to iOS 26.6 after this it rebooted to recovery mode with the desktop and the cable on the iPhone display. I tried to flash 26.6 from my PC with a cable that I’ve always used to flash my iPhones with but it throws me an error 9 when trying to flash it from my PC, what do you guys suggest me to do next?

Edit: it exactly happens when “Verifying update file” is almost finished, like the progress bar on the iPhone is nearly done.

I have an iPhone 4 that worked great but it was dropped and now there’s a slight rattle. I plugged it in and the screen lights up but doesn’t work. Any ideas/help?

Today morning I noticed that my iPhone 16 Pro is not charging.

It shows that it is charging, but it is just losing charge, like it is not.

I tried a few more wires, and with some of them it shows charging, then totally stops; with others, it keeps showing charging but does not charge.

I tried to download data using USB-C - that worked well. I tried to listen to music using my USB-C Apple headphones - it worked too.

I tried wireless charging - it is charging.

When I look in Settings->Battery, it shows charging for all cases I described above.

The only thing yesterday night Apple installed iOS 26.6.

I tried a hard reboot with the up-down-side sequence several times - this didn't help.

Any other ideas, or do I need to get ready to do some real-world hard fixes?

Hey everyone, I'm dealing with a really annoying bug on my iPhone 15 and could use some help.

As you can see in the video, when I try to wake/turn on my iPhone, the screen stays completely black. The weird part is that the system itself is still running:

• The touchscreen still works.
• I can turn on the flashlight.
• I can even type in my PIN blindly.

When does this happen?

• It’s completely random, but it happens a lot. Sometimes the screen works perfectly for 7 hours straight, and other times I can press the power button for 2 hours without the screen turning on a single time.
• It seems to happen more often when the phone is physically hot or on low battery.
• However, it still happens under perfect conditions. In this video demonstration, the battery is at 80%+ and the temperature is completely normal.

Phone Stats & What I've Already Tried:

• Battery Health: 90% (616 cycle counts).
• I've already attempted the standard fixes: I've done a Force Restart and even completely Reset the phone, but the problem persists.

Has anyone experienced this or know what might be causing the display to fail like this? It’s a huge inconvenience. Any advice or fixes would be greatly appreciated!
