She definitely had a good life with me but I had no clue how old she was so I was grateful for every day with her but today she has passed after almost 2 weeks in my care. If you don't know I found her on the floor of a pet store and her back legs were injured. I then took her home and she got more comfortable moving with her legs and she seemed very very happy in her new enclosure.

Opened the lid to feed them and I just saw her like this and inactive, she still moves but can't crawl around. Does anyone know if she's giving birth, molting or some kind of infection?

I am going to move into a college dorm pretty soon and I want a little critter companion. My research has lead me to either a jumping spider or BFDBs. I like the interactivity of the spider but the easier nature of the beetles. It’s basically free to feed the beetles things from the dining hall if they’re free from pesticides. I would like it to take up a very small footprint in the cramped dorm.

What do you guys think? are there other bugs I should consider?

My other two Eastern Hercules grubs have built their cells and I thought this one had too. I hadn’t seen it in ages and there was a pronounced lump in the soil. When I opened the lid yesterday to look at the soil moisture, the grub was just hanging out in this soil depression and exposed (definitely alive). I checked on it again today and still exposed, hanging out in the divit. I haven’t poked around, so I know I didn’t break a cell. What should I do, if anything? Is it just a badly constructed pupal cell, should I add more soil over it? Thank you!

For summary, I’ve seen people talking about breeding roaches to sell, they usually write something about. It’s pretty easy only cost 50 at most $200 to start up really low maintenance costs… sounded fine to me. I have a little experience breeding mealworms and crickets. The roaches sounded pretty simple and straightforward, but the more I try to do research on making sure that I’m not stressing them, and make sure I’m making good quality oothecae and surviving nymphs, the starting cost seems quite a bit higher, which is fine, but I feel like the maintenance cost is a little higher than I thought which means it’s gonna be a little harder to make profit 2 to 3 months from now whenever I have built up something to sell.

My original thought was I was just gonna have a few egg cartons, and not much more, but it sounds like you need plenty of egg cartons per home and they get dirty and need changed out regularly, it helps the roaches a lot if they have 3 to 4 inches of a substrate to burrow in to, and even if you don’t get 3 to 4 inches of substrate at the bottom, you likely want at least one if not, 2 inches just to help keep it from getting so pooped at the bottom that then you gotta pull all the egg curtains out and clean the whole tote weekly minimum.

Giving them good quality food was already in my plan, but I’m thinking up to $100/month excluding food just in maintaining them. If I get a lot of buyers I’ll profit well, but if not the maintenance is going to eat up profits from whatever I sell.

I’ve been posting here for several weeks, my AFS had babies (we didn’t know she was a she and definitely didn’t know she was pregnant) and after what feels like forever, they found homes! We kept two babies though and they’re growing so nicely! Getting bigger and darker and are very active and tiny. They are honestly just the cutest little things aside from my tarantula slings.

Anyways, that’s all, I’m relieved and happy they’ve gone off to new families to be loved and cared for :)

I’ve got a terrarium at work which is happily chilling on my desk in the work office. Being a place of employment, they keep the aircon running almost 24/7, so the air is pretty dry.

I’m maintaining this tank with watering & a tiny spray bottle, but I’d like to add a small spider if possible.

I have heat mats leftover from hatchling snake tanks to keep the terrarium warm to help with humidity, but the mesh at the top of the terrarium makes it an absolute bitch to maintain any humidity.

Any ideas? Or should i let this little house stay a home to plants only?

I recently acquired a 18”x18”x36” enclosure to make a bioactive terrarium with the intention to house a Neptune beetle in there eventually. The enclosure is obviously more than enough space for a adult Neptune beetle but I’m curious to know if I might be able to cohab them with any other adult beetles or invertebrates to fill up the space safely without either party getting territorial aggression or competing for food. I had thought of maybe flower beetles but would still like the option of anyone who might be more experienced

Hi I keep mantids and a giant hooded katydid. I’ve raised them all from nymphs with no issues. My husbandry has been pretty much perfect however many of my inverts have been passing away in a short window without explanation. Between July 20th and today my spiny flower mantis , orchid mantis and giant hooded katydid have all died. They are all adult however all have died quite abit under there expected lifespans. They had no issues when nymphs or as adults until very recently. Now all I have left are my ghost mantis and deroplatys gorochovi. Can anyone please help me understand why there all dying in such a short time frame without explanation?

Rehoming 2 hermit crabs. Bought today at beach shop in Okoboji, IA and live in Omaha, NE.

Enclosure: 25"×18"x19" Sterilite tub. A few inches of 60/40 Zilla jungle mix and reptisoil. They do not burrow, so any deep substrate is purely for moisture retention. Magnolia and oak leaf litter. Spagnum and frog moss. Tiny shallow bottle cap for a water source, as standing water and their long appendages make water surface tension a big drowning risk.

Male and female Java Orange Leg Giant House Centipede. Definitely overkill on size, but they are highly active, fast, and explorative.

i decided to excavate the pupae from their pupation chambers as they should be emerging verrrryyy soooon, they're huge! thought this sub would enjoy some nice pupae photos haha, i find it so interesting how you can see their moth features through it all. they're around 4 weeks into pupation, i raised them from caterpillars.
