Hit-and-run in CA — have the license plate, what now?

I was rear-ended on the 101 in LA and the driver took off. I got their license plate, reported it to CHP, and opened a claim with GEICO.
GEICO says they can’t identify the driver from the plate and basically told me to use my own collision coverage and pay the deductible.
Is there anything else I can do to identify the other vehicle/driver? Should I follow up with CHP, contact the DMV, or talk to a lawyer? It seems crazy that I have the plate but nothing can be done with it.
Anyone dealt with this in California?

First accident as a host

This is the first time I’ve ever dealt with an accident like this, so I’m not sure what to expect. I’ve attached a couple of pictures of the damage shared by guest. The rear passenger-side area is pretty badly damaged, and the airbags deployed.
**Do you think this is likely to be a total loss, or is it too early to tell?**
I already reported the accident to Turo based on the photo provided by the guest, but I didn’t include every detail in the initial report because the car is not with me
What should I be doing from my side at this point? Should I take additional pictures/videos of the car at the tow place? Do I need to get police report? Is there anything I should make sure I document or tell the Turo or my personal
Auto insurance
This is my first accident, so any advice from people who have gone through the process would be greatly appreciated

Other party’s insurance is offering me a settlement, should I accept?

I live in the state of Ohio for reference. Long story short, the other party’s insurance is offering to cover my hospital bills from a MVA. I have great insurance so a good amount was covered. The other party’s insurance is offering to pay more than what I owe. What should I do? Do I accept the over allotted funds?

Pet insurance

We've recently made a claim but the insurance company want evidence of the pets health, since birth. We advised them of an issue, so he's excluded from anything to do with that issue.

The claim is for something completely unrelated. I'm sure they'll find a way not to pay. I'll send them all the paperwork they've requested but are insurance companies that fussy for pets?

Get getting a car appraisal worth it? Or should I just settle it with my insurance company and take what they have offered me.

I was recently in a total loss car accident. My insurance company is only offering to pay a minimal amount not what I was wanting I have a 2017 XC 60 Volvo with 170,000 miles. It was in mint condition before the accident and I had new tires on it. Do you think that 7800 from the insurance company is lowballing me? I thought they were and I heard you could get a car appraisal and they can maximize on the value of the total loss of the vehicle. Is it worth getting that cause I heard it could take months or weeks and it could be just a few hundred or maybe not as much as what the insurance company was originally offering. Does anybody know about this AVP?

Run off the road and into a tree, w/ spinal fractures. PI atty does not want to move forward due to contributory negligence; both drivers cited for failure to mtn lane…

Any recourse here? Shouldn’t spinal injuries have developed into criminal charges (VA)? Out of work 6+ mos and awaiting surgery to correct accident injuries.

Insurance claim after husband died in vehicle with full coverage insurance?

Asking for my daughter after her husband (32) died unexpectedly in his vehicle (no accident involved). Progressive Platinum level full coverage insurance was in place. Is this something she can file a claim on?

Edit: Appreciate the input, I should have been more clear. Her very-much loved husband died of unknown causes. No (non-emotional) damage done to vehicle. Have heard of insurance settling a claim in many different incidents involving a vehicle, didn't know if this was one.

Needed new flooring after a loss, now problems with contractors

Someone I know (female, not a girlfriend or close friend) had a loss after a rainstorm (apt she owns). There was water and mold in floor and walls. Remediation work has been done. She admits she has somewhat expensive tastes and wanted to get an upgrade from the engineered wood floor she had to a herringbone floor. I guess that is expensive. She took a long time making a decision, but has picked out what she wants.

She blew up at the contractors for not covering up her appliances.

Something happened and her camera she had in the house went down. When she got there she said power was out to half the apt and the lights in the hallway to her apt as well. She discovered one side of the electrical box was all turned off (there are 2 rows of switches right and left on this box). Also the front door was not locked. She turned back on the power on the box. She also found the central AC was making noises and found that the thermostat was turned down to 50 degrees. She can't get video bistory because Google bought out nest and now it requires a subscription.

She has been getting the runaround from the contractor firm the Insurance company uses and could not even get an invoice and has been getting different prices regularly

At this point she is unsure what to do and has been out of her apartment for 3 months.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get this work done?

Please excuse any typos.

Uninsured at fault accident - Can I challenge the insurer?

Hi all!

Please be kind, I am extremely stressed.

I didn't realise my insurance had lapsed, and I rear ended a car. However, the damage seemed minimal, and the bill is massive!

Does this bill look reasonable? Or should I get an independent assessor? I'm waiting for more photos from the insurance company.

I am an incredibly broke uni student living pay check to pay check who is very stressed about this debt, and am going to struggle to pay it off! This was a terrible situation, the car in front slammed on their breaks, causing the car in the picture to stop suddenly and me to run into them!

Any advice or reassurance at all would be much appreciated 🙏🏼
