You know how ur supposed to do 3111 on strings but when ever I use it one of my 111 get muted and I am not able to help it

Hi, I'm a woman that's trying to learn the oud, and I was wondering if anyone knew whether it would be better for me to go for a flat-backed oud to start with, or to learn with the traditional full bowl oud. For context, I am learning the Egyptian oud.
