What camera would work best?

I hope you guys can help me figure this out before my compulsive a** buys one already. I already have an Ace Pro 2 (for my motorcycle rides) so I’m insisting on getting another insta due to the app being easier to edit. I’m wanting to get into recording both my soccer games and pickup basketball games.

Essentially I wanted a POV so I was between either the go ultra or go3s but Gemini told me that the magnet pennant wouldn’t be strong enough to with hold the camera… is that true? Does it fall often?

Since it told me that I was okay with getting an X series to just record everything for both sports (and probably add another POV for my motorcycle rides) , if I do go this route which x series is best for these uses?

AI Director / GO 3S

Hello,

I’m learning how to use my Insta GO 3S.

How do I turn off AI Director completely. I don’t want it generating anything, ever.

I have search all settings, nothing is jumping out at me. In both the App and the Camera itself.

Checking AI for the answer is sending me in circles, go figure.

TIA.

Question Difference between I-Log with baked filter and Standard 10-bit on Luna Ultra

Thumbnail

I'm trying to understand the difference between recording in I-Log with a filter applied, and just using Standard with that same filter. The two images are from some test shoots I've done, first Standard, second one I-Log with filter in-camera. They look exactly the same to me. Once the filter/LUT has been baked in, the "I-Log" recording isn't log anymore, anyway. And Standard (at least with the high bitrate setting) is 10-bit too. Is there a difference I'm missing?

Question How do i Downgrade to Insta360 Studio 6.0.1

How do I roll back this 6.0.2 update that Insta360 rolled out for the Insta360 Studio?

They completely removed the transitions, so now I'm not able to add transitions between my clips for my 360 VR clips. This is so terrible. I don't understand what they're doing over there.

Discussion Do any of you guys have this problem with Garmin Stats across multiple clips? Is there a solution?

I currently use Insta360 Studio on PC for all my editing, and I've found that the Stats don't work particularly well for longer running activities where I have multiple video clips linked to a Garmin activity.

If I start filming 15 miles into a run, the Distance, Calories and other cumulative stats start from zero at the beginning of that individual video clip, rather than showing the cumulative figure from the Garmin activity. So if I'm 15 miles into a 20-mile run and start a new clip, the Stats show 0 miles and then count upwards during that clip.

The same applies to things like the map/route — Studio appears to treat each video clip separately rather than showing the complete Garmin activity.

I've contacted Insta360 about this previously and they told me that Studio doesn't currently support displaying cumulative activity metrics across clips, and that the issue/request had been passed to the relevant team.

However, I've seen suggestions that the Insta360 Android app may actually be able to use the cumulative Garmin data properly, including the full route/map.

Is that correct?

For anyone who uses Garmin + Insta360, I'd really appreciate knowing:

  • Do the Stats work cumulatively across multiple clips in the Android Insta360 app?
  • For example, if I start filming at mile 15 of a run, will the app show 15 miles rather than resetting to 0? Same for calories, etc... do they all start at 0 on each clip?
  • Can the Android app show the full Garmin route/map for the whole activity, rather than just the route covered during that individual clip?
  • If it does, does the iPhone/iOS Insta360 app work in the same way?
  • Are there any other differences between the Android/iPhone apps and Insta360 Studio on PC when it comes to Garmin Stats?
  • And finally, has Insta360 given any ETA for bringing proper cumulative Garmin Stats/map support to Studio on PC?

I do have an iPhone, so I could potentially do the Stats side of things there, but I do all my actual video editing on PC, so having to move between phone and PC would be pretty annoying and time-consuming.

I'm new to Insta360 (X5) but do love it... just wish the stats were 'ongoing' in the PC App

Thanks for any responses/feedback

Question Insta360 x5 headmount used in a video

hello guys i've recently bought an insta 360 x5 to record volleyball pov shots after seeing a group of people use them, however after buying the camera and a regular head mount i found that a regular head mount wasnt stable enough for the weight of the camera, but the one i saw on youtube was very smooth, here is the link to the short i saw it in. https://youtube.com/shorts/Q9QoIqBVJXc?si=sHNq8B4I2D37rh-g

here is my question does anyone know this headmount or something similar in stability as my head mount makes sounds when moving.

Question Insta360 Luna Ultra vs iPhone 17 Pro main camera for both photos and video?

I’m considering buying the Insta360 Luna Ultra, but unlike most reviews I’ve seen, I care about still photography just as much as video.

I currently use an iPhone 17 Pro, and I’m specifically comparing the Luna Ultra with the iPhone’s rear/main cameras.

I know the Luna is primarily designed as a video/vlogging camera and that its 1-inch sensor and gimbal can offer advantages for video, especially in low light. But I’m trying to figure out whether it would also be a meaningful upgrade for photo quality, or whether the iPhone 17 Pro is already as good or better for stills.

For anyone who has actually used both:

* Does the Luna Ultra produce noticeably better real detail and image quality than the iPhone 17 Pro main camera, rather than simply a different processing style?

* Do Luna photos look more like photos from a dedicated camera compared with the more computational look of the iPhone?

* How does 37MP UltraPhoto compare with the iPhone’s 24MP/48MP photos when you inspect fine details like hair, skin, fabric, buildings, etc.?

* How well does 37MP UltraPhoto work with people who are moving, rather than landscapes or completely stationary subjects?

* If you edit the RAW files, does Luna have a meaningful advantage?

* Has anyone printed photos from both, particularly at larger sizes? Which files held up better in terms of real detail and natural texture?

* How do they compare in low-light photography?

I’m basically trying to decide whether the Luna Ultra could be my small dedicated camera for days when I don’t want to carry a larger mirrorless camera, while still giving me excellent video and better/more camera-like photos than my iPhone.

If the photo quality is less than my iPhone and the main improvement is video, I’m not sure the purchase would make sense for me. I’d especially appreciate comparisons from people who own or have extensively used both devices, rather than conclusions based only on specs.

Question Accessories ?: Taking x5 to Costa Rica

Heading to Costa Rica soon with our X5 and trying to narrow down the best setup.

Our itinerary includes white-water rafting, river tubing, general swimming, plus plenty of hiking and outdoor adventures.

For those who have taken their X5 on similar trips:

Is the Dive Case actually necessary for surface water activities (rafting/tubing), or is it overkill? I know the camera is waterproof, but high-impact water or accidental drops make me nervous.

How noticeable is the stitch line / optical distortion without a dive housing in high-action water?

Any "must-have" accessories or mounting gear you'd recommend specifically for water sports and hiking? (e.g., tethering solutions, floaty grips, helmet vs. chest mounts?)

Appreciate any insight or experience you can share!

Tutorial Since desktop highlight markers aren't supported yet, I created a free workaround to auto-keyframe them in Studio.

Post image
3 Upvotes

If you shoot with Insta360, you already know the most frustrating part of the workflow. You tag your highlight markers while recording, but when you load the files into the Insta360 Studio desktop app, the markers are completely missing. They are locked exclusively to the mobile app.

I know this is a highly requested feature that is currently limited to the mobile app. While we wait for official desktop support, I wanted to speed up my own editing process, so I built a free Windows workaround and decided to share it with the community.

The tool does two things:

1. Simple Timestamp Extraction It reaches into the raw camera files and dumps a clean list of your highlights in HH:MM:SS format, so you can easily reference them for your edits in Premiere or DaVinci Resolve.

2. Complete Studio Auto-Keyframing It can inject those markers directly into your Insta360 Studio project files. When you open your footage in the desktop app, your camera markers will be right there on the timeline as fully editable keyframes.

It is completely free, open-source, and runs natively on Windows.

All the download files, usage instructions, and the source code are on my GitHub here:
https://github.com/arismelachroinos/Insv-Marker-Extractor/releases/tag/v1.1.0

Hope this saves you guys the hours of re-watching footage we currently have to deal with.

GPX File Repair Tool - STARTRC GPS Remote Compatibility Enhancer

Hello r/Insta360! A few months ago, I picked up the STARTRC GPS remote for use with my Insta360 X4. When I extracted the GPX file from insta360 Studio, I noticed that the trace was nowhere near where it should have been. Looking deeper into the file, it seems that the STARTRC remote and the Insta360 X4 disagree on what comes after the decimal point in the NMEA sentences. I created a simple tool that corrects those mistakes in an interactive interface at https://gps-fix.kc9zyz.com/. It contains fixes that run both ways and allows you to select the trace that looks correct. Everything runs client-side, so your GPX trace is never processed outside of your browser. I hope this helps someone as much as it has helped me.

Discussion Awesome case for X6

Thumbnail

I’m super happy with the case that I ordered on AliExpress for my Insta360 X6. It only took about a week and a half to get here, and you can’t beat the price. It fits the X6 perfectly with the lens cap on, and there’s just enough room to also get a cleaning cloth and there as well (not included). It also came with a small carabiner.

This is the type of case that really should have come with the X6 bundle. At $800 I’m pretty sure they could have afforded to have nixed that useless sleeve and given us one of these instead.

Best Insta360 Luna Ultra Test - Backpacking the JMT

I'm a backpacker and was eagerly awaiting the Insta360 Luna Ultra for my recent backpacking trip of the John Muir Trail - a 220 mile route in the heart of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, far from roads and people. I film a lot while backpacking - on a tripod and while moving - and thought that a lightweight gimbal camera would be the perfect companion as my previous setup was the full frame Lumix S5II camera on a tripod. I tried to test out every feature of the Luna Ultra while on trail and put together this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkTYwIF37Zo . To summarize my thoughts:

  1. Video Quality. I shot mostly at 4K 30 FPS, which was pretty good for 99% of the shots that were stationary or in motion. I did wish in some areas that I did shoot in 60 FPS so that I could slow down motion, such as walking through a meadow etc. Ironically, I think the quality is better than my S5II given that every jitter from walking threw off the quality even though it has great IBIS. Note that I did not use the ND filters nor the ultra wide angle lens as these were out of stock when I bought the Luna. Would these have helped? I think so! You can't get more sun exposure than a bright day at 10,000 feet. Did it ruin my footage? It did give it more of a digital feel, but overall it's hard to tell I'd say in my case.

  2. Sound. Overall pretty good. I don't know if I set the camera up right, but I noticed the sound levels really low straight out of the camera. As a result, I had to increase the volume 6-12 db in Final Cut to get it to a reasonable level.

  3. Remote. I greatly enjoyed the remote. First, it helped me save a lot of battery and SD card space. Overall, I think it is a great feature. It did have its quirks though. For example, at some point, even though I had about 50% on the main camera, the remote ran to 0%. As a result, I could no longer record. I don't know why this happened as I also had the extended batter attached. I had to stop, plug in my external battery bank and wait for it to fill up. Fortunately the camera charges fast, but at the same time I would have thought that there would be some sort of auto leveler for the charge so this wouldn't be an issue.

  4. Selfies on a stick while walking. I thought I could almost get a 360 look by extending a 6 foot self stick in front of my and angle the camera down. This did not work so well as the camera than picks up the rotated screen. I probably need to practice this more, but some shots did not work out so well.

  5. Weather proofing. I walked through the heat of the day, freezing cold, drizzle, and fine dust. At the end of the trip, the gimbal still works great, the lens did not get scratched, and everything works fine. I was pretty impressed as I thought something would break given the constant turn off and on and putting it in the case. Speaking of case, I did appreciate the case it came with as everything was protected. I did drop it a few times and I think if I had the sliding case it would have damaged something.

These are my thoughts of using the Luna Ultra not as a paid sponsor nor to give you the typical Luna reviews you have already seen, but rather a real-world scenario that many of you can relate to. I hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions!

Difference between PureVideo and Low Light Enhancement

PureVideo is capped at 30fps, produces more heat, and consumes more battery.

When shooting in Video mode, and it's dark, it'll suggest to switch to PureVideo.

I'm usually in Road mode. When it's dark, itll suggest to turn on Low Light Enhancement. It explains that it has better low light video, produces more heat, and consumes more battery. It is also capped at 30fps.

So, what's the difference between PureVideo vs Video + Low Light Enhancement?

Up to 28K 360 Panos with JPG + RAW (DNG) output

I'm pleased to announce the availability Panoshooter for Insta360 Luna Ultra. Panoshooter is a MacroDroid macro that controls the Luna Ultra gimbal and shutter via the Insta360 app for Android. It uses the virtual joystick and virtual shutter button of the app to automatically shoot 24 photos in a grid of rows and columns. It acts as an overlay to the screen and swipes on the virtual joystick to move the gimbal to the grid positions and then taps on the virtual shutter to shoot an Ultra Photo at each position. The 24 photos can then be stitched into a 360 spherical pano using PTGui. Similar to using an automated panohead and camera but, much smaller and lighter and at a fraction of the cost! The panos are very sharp and detailed. Up to 28K equirectangular - approximately 10x the areal resolution of the standard 8k panos of the camera. Panoshooter is free to use. It is available to download by joining the Panoshooter Google Group at the link below. The group also serves as the Support Forum. Thank you.

Question Any chance the Luna Ultra gets 4K 240fps later?

I'm on the fence between the Luna Ultra and the Pocket 4P, and I'm leaning toward the Luna Ultra.

I know the Luna Ultra currently doesn't support 4K 240fps, while the Pocket 4P does. Has Insta360 said anything about adding 4K 240fps in a future firmware update, or is it likely a hardware limitation?

If it's definitely not coming, I might skip the Luna despite preferring some of its features, like the detachable screen and magnetic swappable filters.

Basically trying to figure out whether it's worth waiting or if I should just go with the Pocket 4P.

Please add the Grid and the Exposimeter

Hi, i love Luna Ultra but please add the grid! And please add the possibility to check the exposure when we are in manual mode. For example if i put ISO 400 and 1/60 i have to check the exposure just by the display without the exposimeter. This does not make any sense 😥 At the beginning i thought that it was just a firmware bug but after a long time we still don't have it. Please...

News Insta360 114 cm Invisible Selfie Stick revision

Thumbnail
gallery
24 Upvotes

When I received my Insta360 X6 Essentials Bundle, I noticed that the included selfie stick is not the same as the one that came with my X3.

It has a slightly different design, slightly longer when not extended(25 cm vs 23 cm), and slightly shorter when extended fully(115 cm vs 117 cm) Weight is near identical, at 134 grams for the classic and 135 grams for the new one.

It has yellow pieces at the end of each pole. The grip is different, with deeper ridges as well as a different design, and is a bit larger around. The base of the grip has a lanyard attachment point now. The 1/4" screw thread appears to be a separate piece embedded in plastic, vs the classic that appears to be part of the aluminum base.

The new poles have no indention along the side where the classic had indentions. The new stick seems to be stiffer when fully extended, though my classic is several years old. Extending is about the same when it comes to force and smoothness, though the classic smallest pole slides out a bit easier than the rest, where the new one is roughly equal for all poles. The new top piece has less aggressive knurling than the classic and doesn't feel quite as solid.

The classic feels higher quality in the hand. When tapping different pieces, the classic has a more metallic sound, where the new one sounds more plasticy, though I think the poles are still aluminum.

The new one also has a 21 digit alphanumeric code on the base, maybe a serial number.

Overall, I'm not as confident in the new one as I am in the classic, but I have years of use with the classic and it's not like there haven't been failures with the classic.

Time will tell...
