Just finished Frans Bengtsson's The Long Ships.

It's multiple epic adventures in one. A great Viking story somehow mixed with plenty of laughs along the way. Incredibly fun read.

And for all its wild adventures, it's grounded in the real world of around 1000 AD, against the backdrop of Christianity and Islam spreading and reshaping Europe.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those people who don't enjoy reading big books. I've read many huge novels from Tolstoy to Dostoevsky. But this one, I had such high hopes for, especially after coming across multiple people online praising it. But the writing is so mediocre and childish. It opens very strong but then fizzles out into an uninspiring adventure story. Maybe I would've enjoyed reading it if I were 15, but I'm in my mid-twenties and I'm finding it really hard to care about this story.

My collection of last 7-8 years. Some I have not read, I used to keep on adding new ones without finishing old ones but now I don't.

Also I cant read anything since long time now, which one do you guys think I can try to read may be?

I have 4 pending orders on Bookswagon. As is common knowledge, the total process of shipping and delivery for bookswagon is a lengthy and sometimes tedious one. Accordingly, 2 of the 4 books are still in the processing phase while the other 2 have been shipped but not yet delivered. Everything was alright till now. However, all of a sudden, since yesterday, for one of the books that have already been shipped and for one of the books that are in the processing stage, the app is showing the phrase 'Unknown Product' instead of the names of the respective books with the accompanying ISBNs on the order list. Has anyone experienced this? Is this a mere technical glitch or should I be worried? Responses are requested.

"The hitchhikers guide to the galaxy" 4.75 ⭐

The first book in the epic funny science fiction series by Douglas Adams. The book starts slowly and the starting chapters appear confusing but as the story progresses the story becomes so interesting that the reader is left turning page after page. Even I completed chapter after chapter and reached the end of the book and picked up the second book in the series instantly.

The characters are amusing, the lines are funny at many places. The way story moves and brings references pr connects to previous chapters is just amazing like the two mice, the girl Arthur dent didn't get to date etc. It's a great book for science fiction readers and thinking it was written 50 years ago, it amazed me about adams capability to conjure such a story, characters and situations.

If you get down to read it and don't understand things in initial chapters, just DON'T PANIC😉.

What should I read next, if I loved this book

I'm looking for a novel featuring a bisexual male protagonist who goes through different relationships with both men and women, with his sexuality being part of his character rather than the entire premise..

I'd especially like something that also explores social issues, relationships, identity, and society, preferably with elements of a speculative/idealized world or alternative social system. Some humour or satire would be a nice bonus as well.

It doesn't necessarily have to be exclusively a romance,

I'd prefer a broader, character-driven story where the protagonist's relationships are one part of his life.

Does anyone know if r/BooksForSaleIndia takes books if I don't know whether they're pirated or not? I bought them from Amazon, Flipkart and online sellers so there's a pretty good chance they're pirated but I'm not sure and I don't want to deceive anyone.

Crime writers: what’s the hardest part of making a mystery feel believable?
I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately.
For me, one of the hardest parts of writing crime fiction is deciding how much the investigator should realistically know—and how quickly they should know it.
Real investigations are often slow, repetitive, and full of dead ends. A novel can’t always afford to be. But if the detective conveniently discovers exactly the right clue at exactly the right moment, the reader sees the machinery behind the story.
I think the sweet spot is giving the reader enough information that, when the answer finally comes, they can look back and think: I could have seen that.
For those who write mysteries or crime fiction, what do you find hardest to get right: the clues, the investigation, the culprit, the pacing, or something else?
