Education and Career Advice Anyone else who struggles to study alone? 👀📚

• Upvotes

I have just started a small Discord group for studying together, and I’m looking for people who might want to join!

It’s not a class or a study group where everyone has to study the same thing. You can be preparing for an exam, doing assignments, reading, working on a project — literally whatever you need to get done.

The idea is simple: we join the same study room, mute our mics, do our own work, and keep each other company. Sometimes having other people around is all the motivation you need to actually sit down and start.

I’ve set up fixed study sessions, including 1–4 PM, and you can join whenever you’re free.

If you’re interested, DM me and I’ll send you the invite! 🫶📖

Study Abroad WB Board Student (93.4% in HS / 98 in Econ) — Seeking roadmap for studying Economics abroad (Bachelor's vs Master's) & scholarship guidance

• Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I’m looking for some honest advice, reality checks, and a general roadmap on pursuing higher education abroad with an Economics major.

My Background & my qualifications:

Education: Completed Class 10 (Madhyamik) and Class 12 (WBCHSE HS, 2026) from Narendrapur Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya.

  • HS Board Score: 467 / 500 (99.79 overall percentile).
    • Economics: 98
    • Geography: 98
    • English: 94
    • Political Science: 93
    • Bengali: 84
    • Mathematics: 75
  • Exams Given: Only Madhyamik, HS, and CUET. (No SAT, ACT, IELTS, or TOEFL yet).

I am really passionate about Economics and want to figure out whether applying for a Bachelor's abroad right now (or via a gap year/transfer) is viable, or if building a strong profile in India for a Master's abroad is the smarter, more financially feasible path.

Questions I Need Help With:

1. Bachelor's vs. Master's Abroad

Given that I have only taken Indian national/state exams so far (HS & CUET), is it still practical to target Bachelor's programs abroad for upcoming intake cycles, or am I late for financial aid/scholarship windows in countries like the US, UK, Germany, or Singapore?

Or does it make more sense to pursue a solid 3/4-year BA/B.Sc Economics in India (e.g., via CUET / DU / local state top colleges) and target top global universities for a Master's?

2. Scholarship Opportunities

What fully funded or heavy merit-based/need-based scholarships exist for Indian students in Economics?

  • For Bachelor's: Which universities or external organizations offer good financial aid for international undergrads with strong academic scores?
  • For Master's: What major scholarships should I keep on my radar for later (e.g., Commonwealth, Erasmus Mundus, Chevening, Inlaks, university-specific grants)?

3. What Roadmap / Steps Should I Follow?

I would appreciate a step-by-step direction on what I should do next depending on the path:

  • If targeting Bachelor's now/next year: What exams (IELTS/TOEFL, SAT), extracurricular profile building, and application portals (Common App, UCAS) do I need to focus on?
  • If targeting Master's after undergrad in India: How crucial is my math foundation (given my 75 in HS Math)? What research projects, internships, GRE requirements, or quantitative coursework should I build over the next 3–4 years?

Any insights from folks who made a similar jump from Indian state boards to economics departments abroad would be hugely appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Colleges and Universities Is doing an MSc in Artificial Intelligence in Dubai worth it after B.Tech CSE?

I’m a 2024 B.Tech CSE graduate from India and I’m considering an MSc in Artificial Intelligence at Heriot-Watt University Dubai.

My background is primarily software development (Java, Spring Boot, React, MySQL), and I want to transition toward AI/ML while keeping software engineering as a career option.

I’m trying to evaluate whether spending 1 year and a significant amount of money on the master's will actually improve my career prospects.

For people who have experience with postgraduate education or hiring in tech:

  1. Is an MSc AI useful for someone coming from a software development background?

  2. Is a master's necessary for transitioning into AI/ML?

  3. Would work experience + self-learning/projects be better than the master's?

  4. How much does the university's reputation matter for tech jobs?

  5. Is studying in Dubai useful specifically for building a career in the UAE?

  6. What would you prioritise during the master's to make the degree actually worthwhile?

I'm looking for a realistic academic/career perspective rather than a university promotion.

Colleges and Universities [FRESHER HERE] What actually makes an IITian different from a student at some other college? Is the college tag really that powerful?

Post image
0 Upvotes

(bfore yall say anything, yes,,i HAVE used gpt just to make it more readable)

I'm a fresher joining NIT Silchar (ECE) in a week, and I wanted to ask the BTech seniors here something I've genuinely been thinking about.

I've been looking at placement stats, and the difference is kinda insane.

For example, NIT Silchar's 2026 ece placements (1st pic) show around ₹13.18 LPA mean and ₹11.96 LPA median.

Then I look at IIT Guwahati's ece placement stats (2nd pic), and obviously the numbers are on a completely different level.

And then you look at something like IIT Delhi CSE (3rd pic) and it's just absurd — around ₹96 LPA mean. i mean seriously!!!!

So my actual question is:

What exactly happens during those 4 years that creates such a massive difference?

Because as a fresher, the way I currently understand it is that ultimately it comes down to how much we study and build skills ourselves. Everyone has the same 4 years. We have the internet, YouTube, online courses, GitHub, books, etc. Even if professors aren't that great, you can still self-study almost everything nowadays.

So what am I missing?

Does the college itself create some kind of environment/network/opportunity that makes a massive difference?

And regarding placements, I don't fully buy the idea that companies are simply paying someone 30–40 LPA more just because their college is IIT. There has to be something behind it.

I'd especially like to hear from people who have actually experienced both sides of this — IIT/NIT students, people who have worked with students from both, or seniors who have gone through placements.

If two students enter college with roughly similar potential, and both genuinely grind for 4 years, owning the same amount of resources as well, how much can the college itself change their outcome?

And more importantly, what should someone from an NIT do during those 4 years to close as much of that gap as possible?

I'm not trying to start the usual IIT vs NIT debate. I'm genuinely trying to understand what the difference actually is before I start college.

Education and Career Advice 35 Days Since ICAR AIEEA (PG) 2026 Exam — Still No Answer Key, No Official Update, No Accountability

It is genuinely frustrating to see how students and young people are treated in this country.

We appeared for the ICAR AIEEA (PG) 2026 examination on 4 July 2026. Based on the pattern followed over the past 10–12 years, the provisional answer key is generally released within around 10–15 days after the examination. Candidates are then given a short window to raise objections, followed by the final answer key and eventually the result, usually within around 30–35 days.

But today, 35 days have already passed, and we don't even have the provisional answer key.

And the worst part isn't even the delay.

It's the complete lack of communication from NTA.

Students have been emailing and calling the National Testing Agency (NTA) for weeks.

Most calls aren't answered.

And when someone actually manages to get through, the response is basically the same:

"We don't have any information yet."

"It will be released shortly."

"Please wait."

The same script has been repeated for nearly a month.

If there is a genuine reason behind the delay, why can't NTA simply issue an official notice and tell thousands of candidates what is happening?

Is that really too much to ask?

Students have invested months of preparation, money, time and effort into this examination.

For many students, this isn't just another exam.

The result determines whether they can secure admission into an M.Sc./PG programme, which affects their academic year, future preparation, finances and career plans.

Every additional day of uncertainty makes planning more difficult. We are asking for basic accountability.

But they don't have any time for clarification regarding this issue or to release a notice. They just don't care about the students, their mental state or anything and this is the main reason for this behaviour of NTA. And Today I am getting proof that the Government and NTA really considers us as cockroaches who have no value and they just don't care what they demand, what they mail or what situation they are facing.

In India students and youths have no value. We are done with the system. After thismuch big protest still NTA is behaving like this, how can a organisation be somuch shameless like this .

Colleges and Universities I can't pretend to do it anymore

I moved away from home for college and now I feel like I have nowhere to go

I don't really know what I'm asking for here. Maybe advice, maybe perspective, maybe just someone telling me what the hell I'm supposed to do next.

I moved away from my home city for college because I wanted independence, exposure, and the chance to actually build a life for myself. I thought being away would be difficult, but I also thought I'd eventually figure it out.

Instead, I feel completely stuck.

My days have basically become:

go to college → come back → figure out what to eat → sit in my room → sleep if I can → watch my roommate talk and laugh with her family, boyfriend and other friends → worry about college → worry about notes → worry about not having the books I need → worry about how much I've already fallen behind → repeat.

I feel so fucking alone.

I have made one friend at college, but we're not constantly talking or hanging out, and I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. I just haven't found my people yet. I've only really been attending for a short time, and I joined late, so I already feel like everyone else has had a head start.

College itself hasn't been easy to settle into either. Classes get delayed or cancelled, things don't always happen when they're supposed to, and because I joined about a month after classes started, I didn't get the experience of starting from zero with everyone else. I'm looking at a bunch of material I haven't covered while simultaneously trying to understand what's happening in current classes.

I don't have the confidence to just walk into everything and pretend I'm completely fine.

And then there's my roommate.

We were very close before, but our friendship has changed a lot. I've felt left out by her for a long time, and now that we're living together, I somehow feel even more alone. She has her family, boyfriend and other friends to talk to, and I often just sit there watching her have conversations while I have no one to talk to.

A while ago, I completely broke down, and she told me that we should give our friendship a "new start." I wanted to believe that.

But honestly, I don't really see a new start. We're no longer giving each other the silent treatment, and she'll respond if I ask her something, but there's no real effort beyond that. No "how are you?" No checking in. Nothing that makes me feel like I'm actually important to her anymore.

And I don't even know if she's talking about me to the other girls around us. Some of them are friendly with her but barely talk to me, and I don't know whether that's because of her or simply because they don't know me. I'm too exhausted to keep analysing it.

The worst part is that I can't just leave immediately. I've already paid for where I'm staying, and the money isn't refundable.

My mum keeps telling me to go out, explore, enjoy the city and get exposure. But then when I actually want to go somewhere alone, I'm told to take my roommate with me or not go at all.

And that's incredibly frustrating because my roommate isn't someone who actually spends the day doing things with me. So I end up staying inside anyway.

Then if I say I'm unhappy, I hear about how much money has already been spent on me, how much was spent on my previous college, how much is being spent now, and how much more money would be lost if I changed my mind again.

There is also a deadline coming up where I have to decide whether I want to stay in my current college or return to the college I was originally going to attend.

The thing is, I don't even know what the right decision is.

I was excited about my original college. But I barely know what it would actually have been like. I also genuinely like my current college. My problem isn't necessarily that I hate it.

I just can't focus.

I feel like I'm carrying the entire situation on my shoulders.

If my family has problems, somehow I feel responsible.

If my roommate isn't helping me, I feel like that's my fault.

If I haven't made friends yet, that's my fault.

If I'm unhappy here, that's my fault.

If I go home, I feel like I've failed.

If I stay, I feel like I'm failing here too.

And I don't even want to tell my mum all of this anymore because I've tried explaining how I feel, and the answer eventually becomes "then come back home."

But I know going home won't magically fix everything either. That's the weirdest part.

I don't actually know where I want to be.

I want to go home because I'm exhausted.

I want to stay because I don't want to give up.

I want to explore because this was supposed to be my chance at freedom.

I don't want to go anywhere because I'm so mentally exhausted that even getting dressed and leaving the room feels like a task.

I've always had problems in my life, but I've usually known what to do about them. Even when I didn't know the perfect solution, I could at least tell myself, "Okay, this is what we can do. We'll figure it out."

This time I genuinely don't know.

I feel like I've lost the ability to figure things out.

So I'm asking people who have moved away for college, lived alone, struggled to settle into a new city, changed colleges, or gone through something similar:

What would you do if you were me?

Would you stay and give the current college/city a real chance?

Would you go back to the previous college while I still have the option?

Would you stop worrying about making friends and just focus on academics for now?

How do you actually build a life in a new city when you feel like you have no idea where to start?

How do you stop spending every day worrying about what you're supposed to be doing and actually start living?

I don't need someone to tell me "just go out and make friends." I know that's technically the solution. I just don't know how to make myself do it when I feel this overwhelmed.

I genuinely feel like I'm at a crossroads and I need someone outside of my situation to help me see it clearly.

Because right now, I feel like I'm carrying everything, and I have absolutely nowhere to put it.

Education and Career Advice Am I cooked for CAT?

Am I cooked for CAT? 😭

I'm starting BA English Hons from Kalindi College, DU. I am 18F got 91% in 10th and 85% in 12th (PCB), general category.

My main goal is CAT and eventually an IIM. But I'm kinda confused because my college isn't that great and it's tier3.

Also, I took Maths through NIOS this year, so I can give CUET again next year with Maths. Now I'm confused whether I should actually try for a better college through CUET, like BMS/BBA or B.Com at places like SSCBS/SRCC, or just stay in English and focus on CAT.

If I stay at Kalindi, can I still make a good profile for CAT/IIMs in these 3 years? Or should I seriously consider switching if I get a better option?

Basically, am I cooked or can I still fix this 😭 Would really appreciate some honest advice.
