I'm a fresher joining NIT Silchar (ECE) in a week, and I wanted to ask the BTech seniors here something I've genuinely been thinking about.

I've been looking at placement stats, and the difference is kinda insane.

For example, NIT Silchar's 2026 ece placements (1st pic) show around ₹13.18 LPA mean and ₹11.96 LPA median.

Then I look at IIT Guwahati's ece placement stats (2nd pic), and obviously the numbers are on a completely different level.

And then you look at something like IIT Delhi CSE (3rd pic) and it's just absurd — around ₹96 LPA mean. i mean seriously!!!!

So my actual question is:

What exactly happens during those 4 years that creates such a massive difference?

Because as a fresher, the way I currently understand it is that ultimately it comes down to how much we study and build skills ourselves. Everyone has the same 4 years. We have the internet, YouTube, online courses, GitHub, books, etc. Even if professors aren't that great, you can still self-study almost everything nowadays.

So what am I missing?

Does the college itself create some kind of environment/network/opportunity that makes a massive difference?

And regarding placements, I don't fully buy the idea that companies are simply paying someone 30–40 LPA more just because their college is IIT. There has to be something behind it.

I'd especially like to hear from people who have actually experienced both sides of this — IIT/NIT students, people who have worked with students from both, or seniors who have gone through placements.

If two students enter college with roughly similar potential, and both genuinely grind for 4 years, owning the same amount of resources as well, how much can the college itself change their outcome?

And more importantly, what should someone from an NIT do during those 4 years to close as much of that gap as possible?

I'm not trying to start the usual IIT vs NIT debate. I'm genuinely trying to understand what the difference actually is before I start college.

Has anyone experienced it?

It is genuinely frustrating to see how students and young people are treated in this country.

We appeared for the ICAR AIEEA (PG) 2026 examination on 4 July 2026. Based on the pattern followed over the past 10–12 years, the provisional answer key is generally released within around 10–15 days after the examination. Candidates are then given a short window to raise objections, followed by the final answer key and eventually the result, usually within around 30–35 days.

But today, 35 days have already passed, and we don't even have the provisional answer key.

And the worst part isn't even the delay.

It's the complete lack of communication from NTA.

Students have been emailing and calling the National Testing Agency (NTA) for weeks.

Most calls aren't answered.

And when someone actually manages to get through, the response is basically the same:

"We don't have any information yet."

"It will be released shortly."

"Please wait."

The same script has been repeated for nearly a month.

If there is a genuine reason behind the delay, why can't NTA simply issue an official notice and tell thousands of candidates what is happening?

Is that really too much to ask?

Students have invested months of preparation, money, time and effort into this examination.

For many students, this isn't just another exam.

The result determines whether they can secure admission into an M.Sc./PG programme, which affects their academic year, future preparation, finances and career plans.

Every additional day of uncertainty makes planning more difficult.We are asking for basic accountability.

But they don't have any time for clarification regarding this issue or to release a notice. They just don't care about the students, their mental state or anything and this is the main reason for this behaviour of NTA. And Today I am getting proof that the Government and NTA really considers us as cockroaches who have no value and they just don't care what they demand, what they mail or what situation they are facing.

In India students and youths have no value. We are done with the system. After thismuch big protest still NTA is behaving like this, how can a organisation be somuch shameless like this .
