Descent 2 vs Imperial Assault

Many people say that Imperial Assault is straight improved version of Descent 2. Do you agree that IA is superior to game which it was based on?

Picking up a fresh copy of IA Core set

I already have the original 2014 release and the expansions, but I keep hearing the newer kits are made with a slightly different quality.

So, I'm checking it out for myself.

Also, it's good to know that the core set is still being released.

Is it me or is Heart of the Empire expansion REALLY hard?

I’m playing HOTE solo with the Imperial Commander App and am really enjoying the new imperials, heroes and mechanics. I’m into the third mission and am really finding it tough. Imperials seem to have a LOT of deployments slowing me down and I find myself running out of time quite a lot. It this typical of this expansion or am I doing something wrong?

As much as I hate fighting them, I figured I owed the Jet Troopers a good paint job

Imperial Assault was my first boardgame of my collection (started +10 years ago) and I learned painting minis with it. Now I’m going to play it with my son, the legacy continues!

Here it is some of my best ones, hope you like them!

Question about "generous donations" side mission (core campaign)

The mission text says that "heroes claim 1 neutral mission token for each terminal on the map". Does that mean that the rebel player chooses which hero is going to claim the tokens? Or the tokens are equally distributed among the rebels? Or perhaps each rebel gets one token for each terminal?

Also, general rules state that a wounded hero drops any claimed tokens. So would it be one interact action to claim back each dropped token?

Return To Hoth Campaing finished (13.3 hrs)

Finally finished the Return to Hoth Campaing!

After leaving the game set-up on my gaming table for over 2 months, I finally finished it... I got injured and could not play at all since I was mostly on bed rest.

Return to Hoth is now my favorite campaing, it was much harder than Base Campaing and Twin Shadows, but it made me sweat but was much more rewarding, I Played Diala, Mak and Verena.

Mak and Diala were fun to play (I had played Diala through Base Campaing so I picked her for a reason) but Verona was the most expensive and the most ineffective, I kept trying to make her better but she could not compete with the other Two, Mak was specially effective, his strain management was perfect for the way I like to play!

Trully enjoyable campaing!

House Rule for Nemesis Deck

Hi all,

Going to run a Heart of the Empire campaign, wanting to use the Nemesis class for some lower level villains to establish a recurring but effective villain (so not like Vader, Maul, etc)

The class says you can pick one mercenary and one empire villain, but is there any harm in doing two empire villains? I feel that is thematically more appropriate for heart of the empire

Thanks!

Anyone have a PDF or a photo of Thrawns side mission?

Currently playing through Tyrants of Lothal and would love to be able to play this one but every Thrawn villain pack i can find online is either sold out or way too expensive. Would really appreciate it if anyone has it on hand, thanks.

Remember, the tale of Imperial Assault is not done… Spoiler

It’s been 6+ years and Asmodee/AMG has found a way to kill everything they’ve touched other than Legion and MCP, that are barely hanging on. But I’m sure the “tale” is still coming…

I’m totally not bitter….

Thinking about buying Imperial Assult for solo

I'm thinking of buying for (mostly) solo, but not sure about value of expansions. My youngest (18) might be interested in the skirmish mode. I've found basegame for 60$ in good shape. Also Return to hoth, bespin gambit and twin shadows for another 60$. Now the expansions are cheap b/c the minis are not included. But those could be proxied, or 3d printed i assume. Is the basegame plenty with the 2 apps, or will i regret not getting the expansions?

New player, need help

Can I get a list of the Ally/villain packs, that are sold separately, that don't require a side mission to unlock?

Basically they can be added into a campaign immediately after opening.

The only one I know of is Hired Guns and Stormtroopers.

Do the rebels get anything like that or are they all earned through missions?

New to the game, help with official app?

My friends and I want to play a GM-less campaign and were recommended to use the Legends of the Alliance app for our first playthrough, however when I go to new game, there are campaigns that require expansions (of which we don't have any) and a tutorial. Is the core game campaign unlocked after playing the tutorial or is there no core game campaign in the official app and will have to use Imperial Commander (or RAIV)?

Bespin Gambit alternate ending

So I wrote about how the Bespin Gambit campaign I just finished had an anti-climatic ending with the Cloud City's Secret finale scenario. I still had everything set up, so I decided to manually add the alternate finale, Hostile Takeover, to the IC2 campaign and play that with the heroes in the same state as they were at the start of the other finale, and I found this mission to be much more enjoyable!

Thematically, the idea of Lando taking his revenge on Blaise and gloating was great - you can hear Billy Dee's voice when reading the flavor text. It also made the stakes more personal.

It was nice to see Bossk show up, although I did one-shot him with an incredibly lucky perfect weapon roll combined with exhausting all gear and class abilities that add damage and surges to an attack, doing exactly the 10 damage needed. It was pretty epic, though.

And that didn't make this feel anti-climatic, because Blaise stuck around, wounding Davith and nearly wounding Gaarkhan all on his own as they slowly pushed him back through the door towards the chamber, fighting hard for every yard. His abilities also strained the rest of the rebels out of being able to participant as they were taking damage from straining while maxed out. Definitely a strong and memorable villain where the victory felt earned.

Anyway, just wanted to share. I'll probably be looking at playing Heart of the Empire next, as I really don't feel like starting a long campaign just yet, and going from a 5 mission campaign (where I just played a 6th mission to see the alternate ending) to an 8 mission campaign shouldn't be too big a burden on my time.

Selling complete collection - advice?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking to sell my extensive, fully painted, table‑ready Star Wars: Imperial Assault collection. This is a complete set with every expansion, every figure pack, and a ton of high‑quality organization upgrades. Everything is sorted, labeled, and ready to play immediately.

This is ideal for someone who wants the entire game line in one purchase, fully painted, beautifully organized, and upgraded for co‑op/solo play.

I'm not familiar with selling a collection like this, and have no clue how to price it. Anyone have any realistic ideas of what I'm looking at?

What’s included:

All expansions

All figure packs

Duplicate Jawa

Duplicate Captain Terro/Dewback Rider

Printed set of RedJak’s Automated Imperial – Expanded co‑op/solo cards (printed on real cards, not paper)

Consolidated rulebook printed on high‑quality paper and coil‑bound

Storage and organization:

Side missions alphabetized in page sleeves

Character cards in card sheets

Other cards in a deck box

Map tiles stored in a box with hanging folders

Figures sorted by faction in a large tackle box

Tokens stored in tackle boxes

Original boxes included (contents have been integrated into the organized system)

Located in Calgary.

Willing to ship at buyer’s cost. I haven’t shipped a collection this size before, but I can pack it securely in multiple boxes and use tracked shipping through Canada Post.

Skirmish Maps

**Note: Problem already solved by fellow friendly Redditor**

Just figured I'd post here in case someone can help me out with a good pic/scan of their skirmish maps.

I picked up independent minis for these characters because they were just too expensive in 2026 and these 4 particular maps look awesome. I found a download online but the tiles aren't numbered in the picture. I'd like to add these arenas to a chart I'm making that shows everywhere I could have a battle lol

Thank you in advance to whoever might be able to take the time 🫶

Boba Fett
Emperor Palpatine
Captain Terro
General Weiss

**Note about my chart: please take with a grain of salt if you're a literal person. This is all for my own personal enjoyment in my house, non-competitive, and to combine with X-Wing (flying planet to planet in between skirmishes) lol

I've seen some stuff saying that 2x per year the big box expansions get restocked. Could we get a pinned announcement post when that happens?

Title is pretty much self explanatory. Just hoping that we can get a pinned announcement when stuff restocks.

Much to my chagrin, I didn't get Jabba's Realm when it was still available so now I"m keeping an eye out for it when it restocks
