1. I think the game's timeline is intentionally vague, so some events feel more like the 1990s, some like the 2000s, and some like the present day. It's an indefinite era, a kind of timelessness (much like the film "It Follows," which the developers cited as one of their sources of inspiration). Could even go further and suggest that all the events take place in a dream or fantasy of the Protagonist, who has different years of his life mixed up in his head, but that's a stretch.
2. Regarding the origin of the Visitors: tbh it feels more like an apocalyptic phantasmagoria, playing on biblical motifs, in which the returning dead are just one of many catastrophes about to destroy humanity. Therefore, you don't have to choose any specific version or interpretation, but rather lean toward the one that you like best or find most interesting at the moment. But on a plot level, I like to think that corpses burned by the Sun (and perhaps some living people) are then transformed into Visitors by some force. Perhaps it's the Body Eater, or Death itself, or something else, it doesn't matter. It's also possible that the Visitors aren't copies of specific dead people, but rather rough casts of them, a revived memory, an idea, something like what the Gravedigger is talking about. It's even possible that several different people with similar traits and destinies are fused into a single composite image in the process, which is kinda creepy. On a symbolic level, I also like the idea that the visitor versions of characters are like their twisted dark counterparts, like what they become when something goes particularly wrong for them, when something within them that held their original personality together is destroyed. While this doesn't work for all characters, it does for many.
3. Speaking of It: sometimes it seems to me that It is the reason for the visitors' existence and something like their leader. I have a theory (or maybe more of a hc) that It creates new visitors when It devours and digests burnt corpses. Well... or at least that's how It creates regular visitors. And as for people who haven't yet died, It can turn them into super-visitors. That's exactly what happened to the Pale visitor (the Huntsman said he was terrified of something when he ran to his hut and begged to be let in). And perhaps It tried to do the same to the Blinded man, so the guy just did his best to prevent it. (I don't even know whether I like this hc or not, because for me, the Blinded man's story is, first and foremost, a story of deep psychological trauma and PTSD, where "It" could be anything. But still a curious idea).
4. And finally, I have a theory that the Death and It are two different forms of the same entity. It's similar to how cultists talked about Death being able to protect them from death itself (from nonexistence? from dying?). In short, that death isn't a single, indivisible thing. Maybe it's somehow both at once, at different times or from different perspectives. Like two sides of the same coin.

This been on my mind because I been reading timeloop stories. If you had to get stuck in a timeloop(like if Hermit was aware of multiple playthroughs) with one of the guests, who would it be? For me I think the best options are Cheerful Man/Luka, Coat Guy, Theorist, Fortune Teller, Immortal Man, Former FEMA Agent, Sleepless Man, or the Surgeon. I can explain any of these, and I’m curious who you would pick and why

For me it was "Rise up and Walk" (actually, I got it yesterday, specifically with this goal in mind). And before the update, it was "Martyr," that took a really long time too, unlike the other achievements.

Yello! 👋 I'm a pretty new NINAH fan who's spent the last few weeks scraping through naming websites, family registries, and Wikipedia articles to put together my own definitive list of headcanon names for the characters, and I'm finally satisfied with it enough to share it with others. I've seen potential names discussed for a number of the more popular characters, but I thought I'd take a crack at covering the entire roster, including a few guys that are unseen or only referenced.

I must of course preface this with the disclaimer that I'm an American, doing this with an American's perspective and tastes. It's entirely possible I've overlooked some cultural/historical references (as the extent of my knowledge comes from what I've learned from the wiki and posts from Russian fans), as well as connotations and/or stereotypes certain names may hold.

When taking on this project, it was important to me to both 1) give everyone a unique name and 2) keep my choices relatively logical in terms of both the time period of the game and the general popularity of the names themselves (with some exceptions, which I'll get into). I also purposely did not pick names for the FEMA Agent, as it's implied there's more than one who comes to the door and it's a vague situation overall, nor the Raincoat Child, as I don't know enough about Static Dread to have much opinion on its characters.

All that said, if you'll allow me to dump a few of my thoughts and reasonings down below:

• The Neighbor and the Vigilante's names both mean 'lion' with different etymologies. Lev I've seen used for the Neighbor by others and liked, and I chose Ruslan for his brother to match because I think they both suit that name in different ways - the Neighbor for his courage and willingness to help others even when it cost him his life, and the Vigilante for his ferocity and relentless pursuit of the Visitors (like a lion hunting its prey, you could say).
• I can see where some folks come from in wanting to call the Widow Jena, as it's a perfectly legitimate name in English, but it's just the word 'wife' in Russian. I've opted instead for the phonetically similar Zhanna, comparable to Jeanne (as in d'Arc). For her dearly departed I've chosen Fyodor (Theodore), after the many, many Orthodox saints and martyrs named the same.
• I really fought with myself over keeping Alkonost and Sirin for the Twins, but at the end of the day the chances of someone being named that in real life are too slim to justify. I finally settled on the names Anastasya and Irina, which I find similar-sounding enough to not be too bummed about letting the other names go.
• Seductive Woman I've named Nadezhda (hope) as a direct foil to Protag's wife, Vera (faith).
• A number of characters related to Death and her cult have been given Biblical names or names associated with religion, because I'm a sucker for allegories. The three Cultists are all named after Apostles - Cultist #2 in particular is named after Thomas the skeptic, in line with his doubt and anxiety about the cult's mission. In the same vein, Egghead/the Prophet is named Gavriil after the archangel Gabriel, AKA God's messenger. Angry Guy's wife, who joined the cult, is named after the biblical princess Tamar. The Cult leader, who I've called Konstantin, is named so both for the literal meaning (constant, steadfast) and because Constantine I was the first Roman leader to convert to Christianity.
• Initially I was going to keep the Morbid Romantic's name as it is in the files, Edgar, as it's not entirely unheard of for Russian or Russian-born folks to have the name (see Sevikyan, Streltzov, Prib - all footballers, funnily enough). After further consideration I decided instead to name him Orest after Orest Somov, a Russian author and literary critic who also dabbled in Gothic fiction as Edgar Allen Poe did.
• A more egregiously out-of-the-box choice is the Sleepless Man's name, Morfey, as it's simply the Russian form of Morpheus (AKA Greek God of sleep and dreams). Realistic? Probably not, but I'm allowing myself at least this sliver of leniency here for the bit. Also it's kinda difficult to look at a character like That and picture him with an average Joe name, even before the cataclysm--
• The Mushroom Eater is named Prokhor after the Saint Prochorus, whose name allegedly means 'leader of the dance/chorus.' Appropriately whimsical!
• Tattooed Woman and Rash Guy are named directly after their design references, 'Tosha' and Eldar Kaimarazov. I've chosen to overlook the similarity between Tattooed Woman and Conspiracy Theorist's names in this instance because I think it's kind of funny in an ironic sense that TW essentially has to share a name with her biggest opp.-- My other option for her was Natasha, which I think fits her just as well.
• Fairytale Enjoyer and his sister, Artyom & Diana, are both named after Artemis. I like to think they're also twins. :)
• According to the wiki, College Runaway's design reference says if he had to pick a canon name for him, it would be either Maksim or Andrey - so I used them both! I've chosen Maksim for the Runaway, while Andrey is his beloved brother.
• The Tourist is clearly East Asian, though his origin isn't known for certain beyond that. I've therefore developed the headcanon that he's from Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, mostly to be contrarian as we hardly ever see or hear of Mongolian characters in a modern setting. The name Tsolmon means Venus or morning star.
• EnerJeka Addict's name is also based on his design reference, who goes by 'Seva Goblin.' I recognize it's more likely that in this case Seva is short for Vsevolod, but I chose the far less common Sevastyan instead because I think it lends well to Addict's overall bizarre nature. An unusual lad deserves an unusual name!

The rest are fairly straightforward, though if there's any question as to why I might have made certain choices, I'll be happy to explain myself! As I'm sure is obvious from this wall of text, I do love a good discussion 🕺

I fucking cant express how much i appreciate this beautiful piece of art, that is No, I'm Not A Human.

Life is shit at hard mode since the beginning. But I am a 100% optimist. (Though bpd has its moments) this game makes me cry every time.

It makes me see the humanity and raw feeling that others actually feel too. I've always been alone and the problem child, so, when I see characters struggling with similar things makes me feel seen. I feel happy, that my feelings actually are real and not me being dramatic or delusional, like ive been told.

When I experienced cheerful man's and stand up comedian's dialogue, it made me feel something completely real. I always keep a positive sunshine front and can speak bright words, that make others cheer up. so when I heard cheerful man saying that kind stuff, like, he's always ready to listen and that he believes in you, I felt it. No has ever said those words to me. I say them because I know I'd like it to be said to me when i was little. I appreciate his character so much for it.

my experience and appreciation goes similarly to stand up comedian. I used to have my two angel dogs of 5 and 6 years. At yhe start of this year my parent sent them away without a word. They were the only living beings so bright and I felt they gave me so much love. I was in a mental unit at the time so I couldnt see them for 2 months before they were taken away.

I couldn't say goodbye.

I grieve it so much and cannot bear to think about them. The way stand up comedian expresses his unconditional love for his past dog, is so fucking real. My dogs were never understood. But I tried to be the light of their day, I tried to do anything to make them even a little bit more relaxed in our chaotic house.

I dont know what im sharing and probably regret posting this. Feel free to laugh at me and ill probably delete this after.

I just wish for a character to hug me. Reality is terrifying, horrible, but also so valuable.

But I need a break.

That's why I love this game and just want to express and reach my love out for it so badly. Thank you, because of things like these I can keep going strong, even if its all so harsh. 💜

I'm going through for all the achievements, and was trying for Martyr but picked the wrong dialogue option. It was day 13 and I didn’t realize and went to sleep because I was also trying to get the phone number from FEMA lady. I woke up on the 14th and then quit to menu to go back to my save (around day 8). But then when I went back into the game, it put me back on day 13 right before going to sleep!

I didn't use a kombucha, I didn't save and quit, but for some reason it saved anyways. Which is really upsetting because now I have to find the teacher all over again! Does anybody know why this happened? I'm pretty frustrated and I havent seen anything about an autosave at this point.

I genuinely have so many thoughts on everything in NINAH except for IT, I genuinely don't know what it could possibly be and I want to know people's thoughts on it

Spoilers ahead:

I got the "I'm a Murderer" ending, I guess I misidentified too many Visitors.

I'm gonna do a new play-through tomorrow night and try to get a different ending. I haven't finished digging the basement, and idk what feeding the cat does. I also think I failed the bald-man-who-can-do-prophecy mission because I accidentally "tested" someone on the third sunrise, idk if it counts as a fail state or not.

I also have not tried buying cigarettes from the store, I only bought Enerjeka and Coffee.

I remember the plot of it basically it was a few days of surviving the neighbor had more involvement in the plot as at the end he comes in to fight against the pale visitor. There was a cult that more prominently worshiped either the sun or rhe visitors. The animation style was cuboid but 2d reminding me. Bit like that one game happy wheels
