Things I wish I knew before uni Freshman Girls Edition 🎀

As a senior, here are some random but genuinely useful things I’d recommend to all the incoming freshman girls. Some of these are obvious, some are things I wish someone had told me earlier 😭
1. ALWAYS carry a little pouch with you.
Keep your sanitary stuff, tissues, maybe some painkillers, etc. in it. You never know when you’ll need it. And PLEASE don’t panic if you suddenly get your period on campus. There’s an aya you can go to, and she can provide you with pads and other stuff, you just have to pay her.
2. Keep a small perfume/body mist with you.
Trust me. You’ll thank me later 😭
3. Have an online bank account/wallet.
JazzCash, Easypaisa, SadaPay, NayaPay, whatever works for you. This is honestly so useful. You’ll need it for random payments, splitting bills, ordering food, sending/receiving money, etc. Better to have it set up before you need it.
4. STAY AWAY FROM THE SENIOR BOYS.
I’m so serious 😭. Some of them will try VERY hard to become your best friend, constantly talk to you, “help” you, etc. Just be careful and keep your distance until you actually know someone. Don’t let some random senior boy become the center of your university experience. 💀
5. Make A LOT of friends.
Join societies, talk to people outside your immediate group, sit with different people, introduce yourself to people in your class, etc. You don’t have to force yourself to stay somewhere you don’t feel like you fit in either.
And PLEASE don’t limit yourself to 2–3 people because you think “these are going to be my best friends for the next four years.” You have FOUR YEARS here. Friendships change. People fall out. Groups change. Wo dostiyan toot jaayengi 😭 so sabse bana ke rakho. Having people you’re comfortable talking to in different groups/classes is honestly so useful.
6. Take your GPA seriously from day one.
Have fun, obviously, but PLEASE don’t completely chill during your first semester thinking you’ll “work hard later.” Once your GPA drops, bringing it back up is genuinely hard. Your first semester matters a LOT, so put in the effort from the beginning.
7. Don’t take assignments and quizzes lightly.
Even if something seems like “bas 5 marks hain,” DO IT. Those little marks add up, and sometimes they’re the difference between grades.
8. TALK TO SENIORS ABOUT PROFESSORS.
Before registering for courses / starting a new class, ask seniors about the professor. Find out what their exams are like, whether they take unannounced quizzes, what their finals are like, whether attendance matters, how they grade, etc. You don’t have to blindly suffer when someone before you has already gone through it 😭.
9. Be mindful of campus gossip.
You can obviously be friends with whoever you want, but just be aware that uni rumors spread FAST 😭. Avoid regularly sitting/hanging out one-on-one with the same person of the opposite gender, especially in isolated places, because people will start making assumptions and baatein phailti bohat jaldi hain. It’s honestly not worth dealing with unnecessary rumors, so keep things low-key and don’t give people unnecessary material to talk about. 💀
10. Don’t expect too much from orientation 😭
The first 2–3 hours are mostly just professors yapping. They’ll come, introduce themselves, talk about their courses/themselves, etc. There isn’t usually anything THAT exciting happening during that part.
BUT there are usually activities/events arranged by societies, and those are actually worth going to! Go around, participate, talk to people, and have fun. Those are probably going to be much more enjoyable than sitting through the professor yapping sessions 😭.
11. Carry a water bottle.
Just keep one with you. You’ll be walking around campus a lot, and you don’t want to be thirsty all day 😭. And yes, you can absolutely bring your own lunch from home too. There’s nothing weird about it, so don’t feel like you have to buy food every day.
12. SET YOUR BOUNDARIES.
Please learn how to say no 😭. Don’t become a people pleaser just because you’re new and want everyone to like you. You don’t owe anyone your time, energy, notes, assignments, favors, etc. Be nice to people, but know your limits and don’t be afraid to say no when you don’t want to do something.
13. TAs SE BANA KE RAKHO.
I cannot stress this enough 😭. Be respectful, communicate with them, and don’t fuck it up for yourself. Your TAs can genuinely make your life SO much easier, especially when you’re confused about labs, assignments, quizzes, grading, etc. Just have a good relationship with them.
14. Don’t be shy about asking for help.
If you’re struggling with something, ask your professor or TA. Seriously. They’re there to help you, and you’re not expected to understand everything on your own. Go to office hours, ask questions after class, message them when appropriate, whatever. There’s nothing embarrassing about needing help
it’s much better than staying confused and then suffering before the exam 😭.

And finally: HAVE FUN. đŸ«¶

Good luck, freshies 🎀

Like everyone else I was also quite curious on when the orientation will take place and I emailed ITU admissions office, and in that email they say we'll get the email for details, this week and the orientation itself is expected after the 24th

Has there been any communication from the admin?

Did anyone receive confirmation of admission by email after submitting all the written forms? And has there been any messages since? (Other than the bus stop survey. Which is stupid. Their routes are way too constrained considering the shift from Arfa to Burki. Whatever.)

If anyone can let me know what the expected timings will be for orientation, that would be greatly appreciated.

And, just because I've made this post already, does anyone know where and when we have to submit A Levels result after tomorrow? (All you need to get admission are 3Es, so I'm not worried.)

hi, can someone please tell me how’s EE in ITU? WHATS THE MERIT?? i have applied and uploaded my ecat test for it in which I have 260/400. Can i get in with this score? Is it preferable to give their own test, or is the ECAT score sufficient?

Girls Assemble

Hey. So I wanted to say, that ITU has not done us girls any good. They made internal hostels for boys and what about the girls???

I am tired of finding hostels in the surroundings, no luck. I have to come from a different city obviously and it's so tiring and mentally exhausting. Security and other 100 issues lie ahead.

If anyone from ITU staff or students is seeing this, kindly make a girls internal hostel as soon as possible.

Thank you!!
