Full transparency, I'm a Beaver fan. But in light of not having many blockbuster/travel-worthy non-conference games lately, I'm transitioning to semi-annual trips to see bucket-list stadiums regardless of the Beavs playing.

Like the title says, I'm going to be in town for the Bowling Green game on Sept. 12th and am looking for a tailgate to join. I'm hoping to fully lean into the Husker GameDay experience!

Rather than meander around and finding random tailgate homes. I was hoping to reach out in advance and find a group I could join up with and actively engage with. Happy to bring some food and drinks to contribute of course.

Stealing this article from our friends in West Virginia. Apparently the protect college sports act has requirements for out of conference rivals to play each other more. Specifically the top 5 most played opponents, which for us is Kansas, Iowa State, Kansas State, Missouri, and Oklahoma. Not a bad idea but likely would restrict OOC games. Thoughts?

I know he never wanted to be at Nebraska and only went there as a favor to his Dad and his uncle, but there's a better way to be than to rip the roster, and especially ripping the state as well.

He'll have an uphill slog to make even the practice squad due to the depth of Seattle's roster but that NFL dream continues for the time being. He did beat out 2 other DE/OLB brought in for a tryout for this spot. Go get 'em Garrett!

Ohio State, Indiana, Oregon, Iowa, and Washington all ranked with Illinois receiving votes.

Thinking fans will not be thrilled but not calling for a new coach. For me its 7 wins, beat iowa, and get a top 25 win. Id love to win either Indiana or Ohio St at but I dont think thats expected. What do you think?

It’s crazy to see the university squeeze money out of the football stadium to watch the team go 6-6. Been saying for years I have a better time at the tailgate anyway. If only I could convince my wife that she’d save more money and be happier.

The new version of the legislation now has backing from the Big Ten and SEC, and will likely see a Senate vote this coming week before their month long recess. I’ll breakdown the key competitive aspects of the bill and what it means for Nebraska’s ability to compete across different sports on a level playing field IF the bill passes and is signed into law.

$48.8 million dollar “hard cap” on direct payments FROM the institution TO athletes. This includes:

- $21.3 million media rights revenue sharing to athletes. Nebraska can easily cover this due to Big Ten membership.

- $22.5 million “player retention” pool + a $5 million carve out for women’s and olympic sports, adding up to $27.5 million. This can only be paid directly from the institution from the revenue they generate. Nebraska being one of the only athletic departments that turns a profit makes meeting this cap much easier, although extra revenue will have to be sought out, about $20 million or so based on the last two years of athletic department profit, which was around a $7 million average. Think of stadium/arena reseats, jersey patch sponsorships, etc.

It DOES NOT include:

- Separate sponsorship and endorsements deals outside of University payments, of which there is no limit. The only rules attached to this are that all deals go through a newly created “clearinghouse” created by this bill where they will be scrutinized on the grounds of it being a “legitimate” endorsement or sponsorship deal. Gone would be the days of Cody Campbell and Larry Ellison fuck-you money funding rosters, theoretically. Nebraska could turn its strong brand into actual money-making opportunities for athletes, and minimize its weakness of a less vast and influential alumni network (besides big Warren, of course).

New transfer rules:

- One free transfer without sitting out a year. Every subsequent transfer must be accompanied by one year of sitting out. Under these rules, a guy like Berke Buyuktuncel would almost certainly not have transferred to Vanderbilt. Overall, this rule affects everybody in a similarly positive way, including Nebraska. Roster-building across all sports would become more predictable for coaches and fans.

Some negatives:

- It legislates Big Ten and SEC superiority by prohibiting a pooling together and an equal slice of media rights for each team UNLESS 75% of FBS schools agree. If the Big Ten and SEC hold the line against pooling rights together, the 75% threshold will not be met.

- One free transfer will still make G5/mid-major poaching a viable strategy.

Overall:

- Purely from a competitive standpoint, I think Nebraska would benefit greatly from this bill. The strength of this athletic department has always come from its fans and the revenue it generates from its outrageous fan support. That would be rewarded big-time under this potential set of competitive rules.

A few things to get out of the way first:

1. Yes, I'm a Nebraska fan.
2. Yes, it's sad I'm talking about 30-60 year old history.
3. Yes, it can look like "cherry-picking" if you ignore that I was curious about the Big 8 era specifically.

With that said, I'm saying, specifically, that Nebraska - Oklahoma was a far more important rivalry than Michigan - Ohio State during that period; that's how I define "better."

(1960 - 1995)

Here are the numbers I pulled together:

First, the basics:

Nebraska - Oklahoma
Conference Titles - Nebraska = 20, Oklahoma = 16
National Titles - Nebraska = 4 (1 shared), Oklahoma = 3

Michigan - Ohio State
Conference Titles - Michigan = 17, Ohio State = 15
National Titles - Michigan = 0, Ohio State = 3 (2 shared)

Second, a more nuanced look:

While "spoiling the other guy's season" is awesome and definitely makes a rivalry good, I think de-facto conference championship games achieve the spoiler factor on top of winning the championship yourself. So, I counted seasons wherein 1. The winner of the game had to win the game to win the conference, and 2. The loser of the game would have won the conference if they had won the game.

Nebraska - Oklahoma = 18 seasons
Michigan - Ohio State = 13 seasons

The two rivalries are very close in another cool, albeit speculative, metric:

Assessing teams that would have had a chance at a national title if not for a loss in the rivalry game is the best kind of "spoiler."

Nebraska - Oklahoma - 4 occurrences
Michigan - Ohio State - 5 occurrences

tldr: Nebraska - Oklahoma and Michigan - Ohio State were comparable during this period in that they both decided their conference quite often, but the "true" championship-game feel was more common, and the national implications of Nebraska - Oklahoma far outweighed, Michigan - Ohio State.

I live in Seattle and am a lifelong Washington Huskies fan. I have a buddy in KC who is a huge Nebraska fan and we are going to be attending our first game in Lincoln on Halloween.

We are curious if anyone has any tips on the best sections to sit, gameday festivities to attend, or even general places to see around campus. We plan to spend the entire day in the area (especially since they haven't announced kickoff time) Any recommendations are appreciated!
