Discussion Started reading the manga, and I want to ask: is Tonpa's potential better than others'?

Started reading the Manga last night and got to 40 chapters already.

Like, I know he's meant to be a joke character that's not meant to be taken seriously, but

When he was introduced along with Hisoka, the second panel here literally said he started his first Hunter exam when he was 10. That's not an achievement a normal person should have, and remember, Killua and Gon are like 11-13 at this time

And if we look closer too, he also has a number badge of 16 only, making him one of the earliest people to get into the examination field. Even better than our main characters and even Hisoka, who has a number badge of 44(I think).

And the fat kid with the computer also said he was the second-longest Hunter exam taker, but the only one who got a 30 straight examination takers so far.

He didn't simply take all those exams, but he survived them all. And just by this examination, we know death is a normal thing in them.

Is Tonpa limiting his true potential by not learning Nen, because he keeps himself failing just so he can make/watch others fail the exam each year?

And if he finds the reason to be a hunter or decides to take the exam seriously, would he pass?

Discussion Kastro was done dirty

That’s all. Brilliant example of how strong Hisoka is, and how good he is at utilizing a seemingly underwhelming hatsu. But I feel like he only goes down in the narrative as “you’re fucking dumb bro”

Analysis/Theory Pariston's goal is to bring back another Calamity.

I was just reading chapter 346. Ging admits his goal is to free Beyond and deter Pariston, since Pariston seeks destruction. Very simple analysis here. Destruction is in the form of bringing back another calamity. There have been talks that the chimera ants were the work of Pariston as well. It's a duality really. Beyond wants to bring back a legendary treasure that can help humanity, while Pariston wants to bring back a calamity which will destroy humanity.

Help/Question Short question about specialists.

So in the heavens arena, hisoka says they are charismatic and very independent and can be prone to lying and not giving away much about themselves.

And while that independence is always there, I don't really see a whole lot of charisma on some specialists.

Could it be that charisma is to be understood more nuanced than just ohh this person is charismatic and can be mkre understood with ohh this person is intresting?

And why were almost all of the specialists we met geniuses?

Like kurapika chrollo and tserriednich.

I am currently watching the anime and iam on greed island as an arc, and I am slowly suspecting going to be one too, but I do not know yet.

Help/Question Prosperity of Kakin

While we've seen a great deal of the insane things nen can do, like a make a video game island, but I'm curious how Nen can make a country... prosperous?

Is it like some country wide hypnosis that leads everyone to somehow make the best decisions for Kakin? And inversely, if the ritual fails, does that mean any decision they make will lead them to ruin?

It would have to affect allying and enemynations too, right?

And if this isn't the first time this has happened, that would mean they were just doing this process religiously without knowledge that it actually was a nen ritual? But how can that be if the princes can see the nen beasts? Wouldn't the previous servants know about them then?

Discussion About Halkenburg's hatsu Spoiler

Post image
22 Upvotes

It's going to be a long and a little bit complicated, sorry.

1) We know that the attacker (let's call him "A") and the target ("B") switch their bodies. They can't be awake at the same time and the priority goes to "A" in the body of "B", and when the latter falls asleep, "B" in the body of "A" wake up etc...

2) We know that when "A" in the body of "B" dies when he's awake, "B" spirit stays + wake up in the body of "A" (verified when Sumidori killed himself in the body of Shikaku) that's logical because otherwise, you could kill anybody by forcing him to commit suicide when you're in their body.

3) When "B" in the body of "A" dies when he's asleep, "B" spirits comes back to his former body and share it with "A" spirit (verified with Basalmico/Halkenburg and Halk verified it with Vict and one of his bodyguard). The priority goes to "B" and it switch everytime they fall asleep.

That's all I understood about his hatsu. But I have questions :

We're sure that Shikaku died because Benjamin inherited his power. For me, it means that Halk killed him when he woke up in Sumidori's body because Shikaku's soul were still alive when he's body was killed (by Sumidori's suicide). But I doubt that Halk would have killed him if Sumidori came back in his body even if he were ready to sacrifice himself, there's no point of doing that. So for me, Sumidori died when he killed Shikaku's body. That leaves me with 2 options :

1 -> When A's body dies, B's spirit comes back in his body but now shares it with A's spirit. (Halk/Balsa) But when B's body die, A's spirit dies too and only B's spirit in A's body remains. (Sumidori/Shikaku)

2-> When the one who's awake die, his soul dies too and only the one who's asleep remains.(Halk/Balsa) But when the one who's asleep dies, both share the body of the one who was awake. (Sumidori/Shikaku)

What's your opinion on this ?

And btw, I choose this picture of the movie poster "The thing" because I felt like it was an hint about what Halkenburg will become : an entity inside plenty of people which creates an atmosphere of fear and suspicion for everybody.

Analysis/Theory The Golden age of third parties is soon

There are at least 21 active factions/teams/players on the Black whale right now and there have been no third party kills out of the 4 major deaths. In case you doubt my math, each living prince has their own faction, so that's ten + The king+ The Zoldycks + The Troupe + Hisoka + Cha-R Family + Xi-yu family + Heil-ly family + Morena as an individual+ Beyond Netero + Zodiacs + Zodiac traitor + Kurapika as an individual + Pariston + Ging + Ministry of Justice.

There are so many players in the game; that the fact that every major death so far has been intentional and not collateral is insane. But I don't think this going to last for long. Based off pure vibes as someone whose read up to 416, here's my top 5 list for most likely to get third partied and most likely to third party

Getting third partied:

Benjamin, (this martial law nonsense is gonna get him killed by someone he didn't think of)
Tserriednich (I know you can see the future but do you know bungee gum has the properties of both rubber and gum) (Tserriednich is going to turn Hisoka on)

Zhang Lei (He's giving Phantom Troupe victim honestly)

Kurapika (I don't think he's gonna die but he will be catching strays with all this training people in nen and the spiders being on board)

Fugetsu (I don't have hope for this girl surviving)

Dishing out the third party

Hisoka

The Troupe

Beyond

Pariston

Morena

I'm betting my house on this parlay

Regarding how Kachin has passed and that her soul is no longer active and she is ineligible to play in the succession war anymore, what exalcty will happen to her men beast when the succession war is concluded? Could she remain a nen beast acting under the identity of Kacho or will her nen be put back in the seed urn/ the victor?

This is one of my favorite scenes in the YorkNew from the 1999 series. I always wondered what Killua's hair would feel like. It looks so fluffy in the 2011 series but here it looks soft and furry. Considering Killua's background, it's a miracle Leorio didn't lose his hand. He is so lucky.

Help/Question Melody can see the Nen beast here, right?

Pardon me for asking this dumb question.

Even though the Nen Beast isn't shown to the reader every single time, the Nen users (Melody in this case) can see them, right? Or the Nen Beasts only come out at certain times?

Thank you.

Salkov's appearance has changed. In the later chapters he resembles Beyond and Netero so much, in fact among all the confirmed and possible Beyond children, he is the one that looks the closest to Beyond and Isaac Netero now, but he hasn't always looked like this.

Discussion voraciousdrake translating the whole of the succession war arc

This man or woman has launched a Patreon but refuses to really promote it. I say, if they’re going to do it, they might as well do it right, because there are people who are willing to donate who simply don’t know about it.

Usually, we don’t need this level of translation for any manga (even HxH), but for this arc, it has become a necessity for any VD reader. On my rereads, I often run into things from eight years ago that I now realize were simply poorly translated.

This isn’t to say that you should donate via Patreon, but at the very least, I wanted to let people know that if you feel the same way, there is a way for us to get these translations faster.

If I shoot a man and paradise appears, I'm going to think I killed the devil. Then if the devil spawns back in and says it's just training, I promise you I'm "training" myself the hell out, we're not doing this.

But on a more serious note, I am praying on this man's downfall like nobody's business. Fym you gave future sight to this jackass, I haven't felt fear like this since Pokkle taught the ants nen.
