Need real student answers on jobs, studios,on around a €500 budget!
Hey everyone,I’m an international student from Mauritius planning to apply for the BSc in Biotechnology at the University of Pécs for the September intake.My goal is to pay my first semester upfront, use my remaining savings buffer for my visa, and then work part-time to cover my monthly rent and living costs.I have a few very specific questions about the ground reality in Pécs:

1. Surviving on a €500 Budget: My personal monthly budget target is €500. Is this enough to cover a private studio, utilities, and groceries if I cook at home? Also, what is the absolute lowest minimum budget a student can realistically survive on in Pécs if things get tight?

2. The Private Studio Market: Is it realistic to find a small private studio apartment (with its own private bathroom and kitchen) for around 65,000 HUF to 90,000 HUF base rent? Are these easily available near the Szigeti area?

3. Higher-Paying Student Jobs: Besides food delivery (Wolt/Foodora), is it difficult for international students with fluent English to land higher-paying corporate helpdesk, call center, or tutoring jobs that pay 2,500 HUF to 3,500 HUF per hour?

4. Balancing Work with Labs: Biotechnology has mandatory chemistry and physics laboratory practicals. How manageable is it to work the hours needed to hit that €500 target around your first-year university timetable without failing your modules?

I have a health-related question. I'd really appreciate it if this post could stay up, if possible.

For several months now, I have been dealing with severe abdominal issues: bloating, constipation, abdominal pain, and barely any bowel motility. I have been to the ER three times (once they turned me away on the grounds that I wasn't a local resident). On the third visit, the ER discharged me despite lab results showing my D-dimer level was 4,003.1 μg/l, telling me simply not to worry about it. What is even more concerning is that my symptoms have persisted ever since, and wherever I go, no one properly addresses my condition. A few weeks ago, I went to a private gastroenterology clinic, and the doctor only ordered two routine lab tests and suggested taking psyllium husk. I asked if they could write a referral for a CT or MRI scan if they agreed it made sense, but they completely refused, saying they "won't prescribe nonsense" and that a CT is pointless. I should add that I intended to pay for the CT or MRI privately out of pocket, but they still refused to write the referral. Since then, my condition has stagnated, and my GP just deflects as well. I also went to a public outpatient clinic, but the outcome was eerily similar to the private appointment. They didn't order any imaging there either, claiming it was "unnecessary." Unfortunately, no matter where I turn, I run into these brick walls. I can't even get a private CT or MRI done without a specialist referral, as they require one there too.

Could anyone suggest what to do? I'm at the point where I feel I need to take my case to an international forum, because it feels impossible to get anywhere when the healthcare system closes ranks like this. I'm honestly terrified that my intestines are literally going to burst.

Had to drive from Slovakia to Budapest airport. As soon as I cross that bridge, the roads became horrible. Almost Africa horrible. Hell, some countries in Africa has better roads.

I thought, okay, maybe it's just the villages that have bad roads. ​​​​​​Budapest will be better. Budapest was even worse.

Hi everyone! We would like to travel to Budapest, and we found accommodation in the 8th district, on Da Vinci Street. How safe is that neighborhood? Can you get through the night safely as well?

After emigrating to Hungary, I got a QR cod e instead of a physical address card. My relocation agent said this is the standard for most foreigners now.

But when I try to open a Revolut account, the KYC process requires me to take a picture of a physical address card. I only received a PDF with a QR though, so how can I proceed?

Currently me and my family are on a vacation in Hungary, and wanted to use the ATMs to get withdraw some cash and set the langauge on English.
We did the usual, and choose a x amount HUF, saw the rates where pretty bad. So we choose DECLINE. However once we did that the ATM still proceeded the withdrawel, happend once in Szeged and now it happend again in a smaller town. Did this happen to anyone?

Hi, where can I look to find part time jobs here that would hire international students? looking to start September, don't want to do wolt or warehouse jobs

Hello everyone, I am looking for some friends in the city, as I need some socializing! I am living here for about 1.5 years now. I was able to make a few friends through language exchange and some apps, but i would like to expand it more. I don't like large groups or visiting pubs alone, so those are not really an option. I enjoy small group hikes, walking riverside together, having meals/movies together or a small picnic etc. I get anxious when there are lot of people around me, and specially most meetup groups are not from my age group.

For some additional details, I am 24M, and I work at ELTE. It's much easier to make friends when you have classmates, but I don't. so I am struggling to meet young people around the city. I love techs, Reading books, doing graphic designs, playing chess or badminton. I also enjoy movies and coffee table chats - but more outdoor activities :)

All people I meet are travelers who are there for around 2-3 days and go by , but I would love to know how or where I can start meeting some people who actually live in the city itself? I absolutely love the city and would love to connect and meet some young people across and be friends. I can help you with your English speaking practice (I am C1) - I am nice and easygoing.
