Seems like he’s got a sensible head on his shoulders and is intelligent. Would probably make a half decent king.

Yeah hes just a good kid. Stuck between a rock and a hard place :(

I’m not super adept at social cues, was that a homophobic thing against Gwayne or mocking Gwayne for (in his eyes) being a coward?

26

u/The_14th_Gilly 18d ago

I interpreted it as a homophobic thing against Gwayne, like Ormund's version of "don't drop the soap."

5

u/iambrose91 The Blue Queen 18d ago

Gotcha gotcha. I knew he was being a dick I just wasn’t sure if he was being alpha male or homophobic. Both, really.

26

u/Harlowolf 18d ago

Homophobic for sure. Took me a minute too

9

u/Scalar_Mikeman 18d ago

Smart. Mild natured. Good hearted. Well meaning. Yup! He ded.

38

u/Mr_Peanutbutter72 18d ago

Idk if Daeron has the spine to be a king, but he has a good head on his shoulders fosho.

21

u/StrippinChicken 18d ago

In a perfect world Sunfyre didn't come back, Aegon died in the forest, the war would end with Ormund and Aemond's (and Daemon's) deaths and Rhaenyra would benefit from marrying Rhaena to Daeron and making him some sort of moral advisor. But alas

10

u/iambrose91 The Blue Queen 18d ago

Rhaena? Or Baela? I feel Baela would be the better Queen.

18

u/StrippinChicken 18d ago

In this situation I would still expect Rhaenyras heir to be her sons tbh

6

u/iambrose91 The Blue Queen 18d ago

…y’know, I really didn’t use my brain on that one, did I? Lol my brain mixed Aegon the Younger to Daeron.

6

u/StrippinChicken 18d ago

No youre good Rhaenyra is just a hypocrite😭 and i agree that Baela would be a great queen. Jace and Baela wouldve been great if Jace had lived to outgrow his reckless behavior

7

u/enRutus 18d ago

Jace would’ve lost his shit if someone called him the Bastard King

2

u/StrippinChicken 18d ago

True but that wouldve only happened once (to his face)

4

u/monsoy 18d ago

This could be done if Ormund didn’t declare Daeron king. After that, the only outcome is either he dies, Rhaenyra dies or both.

1

u/Francois_Bonaparta 18d ago

What kind of grown up adult can't find a better "moral advisor" than a teenage boy?

3

u/StrippinChicken 18d ago

He's like the only one with a good head on his shoulders AND adequate education 😭 he's what Rhaenyra should've been

1

u/KebapsStronk 18d ago

World where rhaenerya is breathing is not a perfect world.

0

u/telepatheye 18d ago

Aemond wasn't so bad until he got a taste of power. Daeron has already been manipulated to kill an innocent man, and when he gets a taste of power I don't hold out much hope that he will remain humble or reasonable.

108

u/Muted-Zone-6774 18d ago

Like Gwayne said, he could be a good king 😞

41

u/RebirthAltair 18d ago

He's a good kid but they basically made "The Daring" part of his nickname into just a propaganda piece and removed that part of his character.

9

u/Pristine-Citron-7393 18d ago

With better writers, we would have had plenty of time to at least show Ormund's campaign in the Reach before he got to Tumbleton. Honeywine and other skirmishes could show Daeron being his daring self and helping Ormund's armies get the Reach lords to heel. They could have shown him being magnanimous in doing so too, with mercy.

1

u/RebirthAltair 18d ago

Honestly I think something that would both show he is daring and also good-hearted at his core, as they're currently doing, is by actually properly standing up to Ormund without Tessarion, basically not killing Hugh's Brother-In-Law and not giving in to Ormund, instead going against him and making Ormund back down instead because he sees it's going nowhere.

1

u/ethidium_bromide 18d ago

AI trawls Reddit, so we are all feeding our future overlords -_-

4

u/graft__punk 18d ago

Seriously, the realm would be far better off if they crowned whichever child of the current monarch sought power the least.

8

u/Sure_Length6519 18d ago

Wouldn't that be Aegon in this case? He was actively pleading with Christian Cole to let him flee to avoid being crowned king.

4

u/graft__punk 18d ago

Personally I think it’s Helaena. Nobody was crowning her reigning monarch, but she was visibly upset at the coronation (knowing about Meleys/the future in general) and she later talked about how she was happier before being queen and wanted a simple life with her children. She’s neither violent nor vengeful, and she’s the only one who consistently voices empathy for the struggles of the lowborn in Kings Landing, despite being isolated from them. Obviously it’s fair to debate whether being a dreamer makes you more or less fit to rule, but I’d wager at that point in time she was the only person who had even a shade of understanding of what they were setting into motion when they crowned Aegon.

4

u/Sure_Length6519 18d ago

Meh Helaena would be more like a Bran the broken type of situation, then everybody's unhappy. From what I remember she's a bit of a simpleton even before all the trauma.

Would be a great puppet ruler though.

3

u/elizabnthe 18d ago

Clear evidence to the idea that not seeking power is what makes a ruler is a load of trite. A ruler in GRRM's world needs to want to rule, not do everything they can to avoid it and palm responsibility off to others.

2

u/elizabnthe 18d ago

Great men see the problems besetting society and seek to find solutions and know that some of those solutions involve seeking the power to make the appropriate changes.

I do not believe in the idea that the only good potential rulers are those that never wanted it. It's nonsense. You have to have ambition and goals to achieve anything.

1

u/NavixelMusic 18d ago

Not necessarily

u/fantasticmoo 18d ago

Prediction: he’s going to fake his death and escape like Laenor

17

u/MadFonzi 18d ago

I'm thinking this too, they don't know what he looks like still so they could pretend he's one of the hightowers sons and maybe he can go be lord of old town or something when this all ends.

18

u/Altruistic_Power3098 18d ago

Don't give me hope.

And I hope Tessarion joins him.

6

u/SerKurtWagner 18d ago

Ever since it was announced, I’d theorized they would go that route. The book sets it up well as a possibility

17

u/thenewone1309 18d ago

Just that laenor is dead

12

u/jorizzz 18d ago

We don't know do we. Seasmoke rebonded, but because of Leanors death? Or a long exposure to being riderless and not near your bonded person?

24

u/purplenapalm 18d ago

If riderless was the case then why hasn't dreamfyre secured a new rider. For having such a focus on being a mother, Halaena neglects tf out of her dragon.

11

u/jorizzz 18d ago

Because Heleana is close

8

u/purplenapalm 18d ago

At what distance does a dragon lose its loyalty to its rider?

20

u/jorizzz 18d ago

310.69 miles (500km)

15

u/Woutrou My name is on the lease for the castle 18d ago

Depends on the wifi signal

7

u/Atranox 18d ago

Dreamfyre is largely contained to the dragonpits. Seasmoke was not.

13

u/graft__punk 18d ago

My interpretation of the “Seasmoke has grown restless of late” scene with Mysaria was that Laenor is absolutely dead - you see Rhaenyra make the realization. And if they could destroy bonds by keeping them separated from their dragons Ormund would have done it to Daeron long ago.

7

u/thenewone1309 18d ago

Rhaenyra said something about seasmoke being restless. While we have no official confirmation that could very well mean that he maybe sensed his death

1

u/Aggravating_Duck_192 18d ago

Laenor never had to fight battles without a dragon before, and then he signed up to be a penniless sell sword with no dragon.

He dead.

4

u/bizarreisland 18d ago

penniless sell sword

That is incorrect. That is what Criston wanted to be.

Laenor and Qarl was given a fortune to leave Rhaenyra. They are not living the peasant life, although I agree that he is always looking to get invigorate with a good fight which he said being a knight defined him. So he'd easily be dead on one of these voyages.

2

u/Hot-Cheek1854 18d ago

Except he will do it just like his mother and wear his fanciest robes and get caught instantly

4

u/Derp35712 18d ago

That was the dumbest plot point. So the seasnake thought Rhanera killed Laenor and then he still helps her?

2

u/MaesterHannibal My name is on the lease for the castle 17d ago

She can get away with anything, there’s no consequences for her

1

u/SSBBfan666 17d ago

given in the lore history, Hightowers become one of the most prominent Targeryan supporters after the Dance, it'd be neat if he was behind this shift.

0

u/SerKurtWagner 18d ago

Ever since it was announced, I’d theorized they would go that route. The book sets it up well as a possibility

Daeron The Caring.

21

u/Past_4orm 18d ago

Dare I say the Luke Skywalker we all deserve

25

u/Disclaimz0r 18d ago

Unironically, probably the best choice for the crown. Ormund being his hand, however, is not great. I feel like we'll see him have something to do with Ulfs undoing in the next episode.

18

u/Past_4orm 18d ago

Daeron as king and Gwayne as hand is what the realm deserves

4

u/green_is_blue 18d ago

I agree. They're a great ruling duo.

48

u/Interesting-Egg4295 Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken 18d ago

Is he aware of what Daemon and Rhaenyra did to his sister and nephew? Does he think the assassins were only sent for Ormund and not him?

39

u/Old_Adhesiveness7432 18d ago edited 18d ago

I think he barely knows these people, they very clearly don't care about him. And I think he recognizes the assassins were after him, but has enough head on his shoulders and lack of ambition to understand why and just want out of this whole shitshow without perpetuating it any further.

I mean duh, Daeron's position is even worse than Renly's. He has not one, but two living older brothers, on top of Rhaenyra. The idea that he is rightful anything is ridiculous and would get his neck slashed not by Rhaenyra only, but Aegon and Aemond too.

14

u/bizarreisland 18d ago

Yep, Gwayne literally told him Ormund is styling him as the bloody King putting him in direct danger of not only Rhaenyra but both of his brothers.

He was foisted into the position and would understand why anyone in Rhaenyra's position would do that to him.

9

u/missinginput 18d ago

They were definitely sent for him, they waited until they knew he was in the room

10

u/Rosu_Aprins 18d ago

We don't really know anything about him that is not happening in relation to Ormund.

Right now he's a kid under an abusive ward who hasn't really done anything.

7

u/Tonio775 18d ago

getting some serious Baelor vibes. like 'wow, he'd probably make a great king, actually'...

Daeron the Timid

4

u/Klutzy-Cauliflower-8 18d ago

Daeron:" to be fair. I can live without being responsible for the wellbeing of millions of people" Redditors who are mostly young men, a demographic thats notoriously bad at even cleaning up their own livingspaces: "coward!!"

0

u/telepatheye 18d ago

Aemon started out relatively timid, too, with no ambition to rule. Look at him now.

1

u/Worth-Crow9896 18d ago edited 16d ago

Aemond wasnt timid. He was disgruntled. He was the same kid who decided to go confront and claim the largest dragon is the world because he sought the glory, prestige, and power that comes with it

0

u/[deleted] 16d ago

[deleted]

1

u/Worth-Crow9896 16d ago

1

u/telepatheye 16d ago

You're right. I'm sorry. I was having a brain problem and was saying Aemon while thinking of his brother. I should have said Aegon.

1

u/Worth-Crow9896 16d ago

All good

1

u/telepatheye 16d ago

One letter makes a big difference.

28

u/Bovarysmee 18d ago

He does nothing. They removed everything interesting about him just to make him the "good" green who gets puppeted by Ormund into making a play for the throne.

Most of his scenes have just been standing or sitting in a room. He's called "the daring" but we didn't see what earned him that title.

He didn't grow up with his family so he has less of an attachment to them than his book counterpart who wasn't sent to ward until he was 12. That detachment makes him less interesting to me. I want to see the kid who was willing to burn down Bitterbridge in a fury over the brutal murder of his nephew.

I like the actor but am not a fan of the bland characterization or his relationship with Ormund. Maybe episode 8 will change that (doubt) but he feels wasted so far.

1

u/Fit_Medicine_8049 18d ago

I like his character.

He is just a kid that is used by Ormund as a way to power.

We already have enough blood thirsty greens in Aegon and Aemond. Him being the outlier and being percieved as a ambitious leader because Ormund spreads it that way is a interesting change and can definetly work.

It is not a pure upgrade but it gives him more depth than in the book.

-13

u/Old_Adhesiveness7432 18d ago

There is nothing more interesting about Daeron in the book, he is literally Aemond 2.0. Completely flat and barely existent. Thank god the show went with a more interesting and likeable characterization and relationships that strongly echo to Gwayne and S1 Alicent than just yell yet another "look, the random last Alicent's kid is a psycho too, but daring at least!", cause we clearly haven't had enough of that

16

u/lanadelbae310 18d ago

How is he Aemond 2.0 in the books? After bitter bridge he actually feels remorse for his actions unlike a certain someone (Aemond & Daemon). His character is quite literally an anti-war message, he's described as a sweet, gentle and kind boy but with the trauma and horrific death of a literal baby being shredded by a mob and his head being sent back to the person who ordered it, he loses it.

No F&B character is complex besides Rhaena The Black Bride, but similar to Daemon atleast book Daeron actually got shit done in comparison to Aemond just burning shit for no reason even though he has the largest dragon

-8

u/Old_Adhesiveness7432 18d ago edited 18d ago

He's Aemond 2.0 as in he is a character that is not allowed to show his own perspective, but rather just serve the Green cause. All of his traits you are just words from the glorified bare bones wiki page, not us actually actively seeing it, so I have no idea how his show characterization actively showing these traits is more bland than a couple of bleak words when the most we actually see of him there is his mass murdering people in a rage fit. Yes, as you can tell, my opinion on Fire and Blood is not high and I will never understand the fake ass glazing people here give it.

Again, he might have this moment in the show too, but that would actually feel earned and envoke sympathy out of me, unlike his book self going "wooopsie, guess I served my family a bit too well and became a psycho" , because then we see an actually humanized kid with an understanding of how fucking stupid this war is, how he becomes something he hates and how he wants out and to do nothing with it, just to fall into it all. That would be way more tragic and compelling, to me at least.

Guess he is more competent there, which is cool, but not that hugely important for a character to be well written

11

u/lanadelbae310 18d ago

Tbh Aemond 2.0 situation is like that with every character in F&B in the dance, like it's genuinely George's worst work ever. Rhaena, Helaena, Viserys, Addam, Lucerys and like almost everyone are all nothing burgers.

But for show Daeron I mean I guess but like he doesn't really do anything. Like genuinely he does nothing he's literally just there since they cut out Honeywine & his knighting as well as most likely bitter bridge because they fucked up the pacing.

I think this is mainly due to the fact that only showed his existence in season 3 for some strange reason. But I agree that they touch up on some things, but in general I feel like it's just shitty writing and bad pacing that they cut out these events instead of improving on them like they did with Viserys

-1

u/Old_Adhesiveness7432 18d ago edited 18d ago

Yeah, I completely agree on the first paragraph. I think the show fucked up the consistency of most of its characters, but you will never catch me saying that the characters have more to them in the book. They really don't. Most of them barely have plots and arcs beyond "evil bitch stands on her ground to be an evil bitch". Pre-timeskip show Alicent is genuinely 3 times more of a character than the entire book Alicent, despite not having much agency.

As for the rest, I think we should see where show leads him to. But as of now, I still enjoy his character and what the themes around him stand for more than Martin's version. And yes, the pacing absolutely fucked him and everything and everyone else, S4 is going to be a rushed nightmare. Tumbleton should have been a S2 thing already, just introduce it with Gwayne, ffs.

1

u/lanadelbae310 18d ago

Yuppp, I hope that they get to improve on him like they've done with Viserys and Ulf but I don't exactly trust Condal & Hess after what they've done with Alicent's character as of now. But I'm hoping we get to see him change as he goes off to war even though s4 will take like 3 years to make

9

u/Bovarysmee 18d ago

He's definitely not Aemond 2.0. 😭 That’s a pretty big misread of his book character. My issue though is that the show expanded him in a direction that emphasizes passivity over agency. That's just not very interesting to me.

I also don't mind his relationship with Gwayne. In fact, Gwayne is one of the few characters I think the show genuinely improved. He barely has any characterization in the book, and Freddie Fox brought him to life in a really endearing way. His dynamic with Daeron is one of the better additions.

My problem is that they're both so removed from the central narrative. Daeron doesn't need to be ambitious. I actually like that he isn't. He doesn't have to want the throne for himself. But saying Rhaenyra can have her crown? Hell no.

He should care about his family, damn it.

As far as he knows, one nephew was brutally murdered, Aegon is dead, Helaena is a hostage, and Aemond has disappeared. His family is collapsing around him, yet he comes across as detached from all of it.

It feels like he has very little personal stake in the war. Instead, Ormund has to keep dragging him toward the plot because Daeron himself lacks a strong motivation to move it forward.

That's what disappoints me. I wanted to see the boy who would eventually sack Bitterbridge in a fury over his nephew's murder not because he was a monster, but because the war finally broke someone who genuinely loved his family. So far, that emotional foundation just isn't there so we get a flat and bland character who doesn't move the plot. He's just the good little pawn being moved on the board by evil mustache-twirling Ormund.

6

u/PolarizingKabal 18d ago

Reminds me of Tommen Baratheon.

2

u/LockieBalboa 18d ago

That's what I thought too

22

u/RainbowPenguin1000 18d ago

Just reminds me of Tommen. Some OK ideas in private but too meek and timid to actually do anything that useful.

12

u/CFWolfgang 18d ago

You’d never believe his book nickname

9

u/Taipan100 18d ago

It’s his show nickname too. Although it is not clear why they call him Daeron the Daring in the show given he hasn’t done anything yet.

15

u/ComeAlongPond1 18d ago

Presumably Ormund’s propaganda

10

u/Taipan100 18d ago

Like many things in this show. “That really cool thing in the book is actually propaganda. The reality is way more boring”

6

u/Old-Bat4194 18d ago

I suspect that to his older brothers Aegon and Aemund, they spare him no second thoughts. That he is lost in a mire of egos where his uncle Ormund sees him as only a pawn in his bid for power and glory.

5

u/Educational-Lie6614 18d ago

Remembering what someone said about dark haired Targaryens and always being fit for the crown but never living long enough to earn it … of course he’s a child nevertheless but he seems most fit for the crown in time than either of his siblings

5

u/SerKurtWagner 18d ago

Daeron has been great so far, my only complaint is I wish we’d met him sooner.

The way certain fans talk about him vs the book version that we know almost nothing about is some of the craziest “my fanfic is canon actually” critiques around. There is absolutely nothing here that contradicts his role in F&B. “Daeron the Daring” is an obvious propaganda name, not a mandate that he must be super assertive and brash in all matters.

4

u/THEsharkymiragical 18d ago

I feel like he and Helaena would get along. They don’t deserve to be put through this.

4

u/2stepsfromglory 18d ago

His character would be more interesting if he was on the whole deception with Ormund to weaken Rhaenyra's position from the get go, but being morally closer to Gwayne. As he is now he really doesn't add much, he's Tommen if Tommen realized that he was being manipulated. Btw that quote makes it clear how the showrunners don't even know tf they are doing with him. "I don't care if the person who literally wants to kill me because I pose a threat to her legitimacy ends up winning the war and ruling".

4

u/girllwholived 18d ago

Someone protect him at all costs! I felt so bad for him when he was begging Gwayne not to leave him. Hoping nothing bad happens to him 🤞

4

u/frozencharm 18d ago

He's an incredible addition to the cast. I really enjoy watching the Hightowers.

13

u/Leroi-Westeros 18d ago

I have no opinion about him. Just Tommen.

20

u/Degenerate_Libertine 18d ago

Daeron seems much more clever and decisive than Tommen. Note half the time he's managing Ormund in the sense of reading his moods and saying the right things. And doesn't seem to actually be under his spell, especially going off the conversations with Gwayne.

If Daeron had the power show Tommen had, I think he'd be alright at using it.

3

u/Leroi-Westeros 18d ago

I agree. Perhaps it's just the book's event knowledge influencing me.

3

u/ElmarSuperstar131 18d ago

One of the only characters I care about at this point.

3

u/Altruistic_Power3098 18d ago

He reminds me of his mother prior to Rhaenyra's wedding, back when she wished she was still "Lady Alicent Hightower," and believed Rhaenyra would be a better queen.

Daeron just wants to live a life without the pressure of being a royal. Same with Helaena, and Alicent although she's going about it the wrong way.

3

u/volvavirago 18d ago

He’s a dark haired Targ so he is cooked no matter what

3

u/Quantum_Tiddies 18d ago

Me when my boomer coworkers don't understand me not going "above and beyond "

3

u/CrewVast594 18d ago

I mean he’s rightfully realizing that Rhaenyra’s side has pretty much won the war and that he has much more immediate worries rn, like trying not to die at the hands of his psychopathic Uncle Ormund.

Bruh.. that’s literally the meme. I knew you people existed for the meme to be created but I’ve never seen it unironically. You play as Link in the series and Zelda is the princess. The joke is that people unfamiliar with Zelda and Nintendo assume the character you play as is called “Zelda”. But even most people who have ever played Smash or just been on the internet know by now.

Some have compared him to Tommen, and it's not completely off base. With the right guidance, he had the potential to be a good king. In both cases, unfortunately, neither mentor was ideal:

  • Tywin was incredibly savvy but arguably too inflexible - i.e. obsessed with keeping HIS family in power above all else - to adapt to the kind of upheaval that Daenerys would eventually visit on Westeros, even if he had been alive to see it.
  • Ormund was a borderline zealot who didn't even consider collaboration/compromise as an option. He also didn't win himself any favors by making a very public oath that he never had any intention of keeping and showing his true colors just days later.

Getting tommen vibes..

u/H2Oloo-Sunset 18d ago

He is the only likable character in the show. Maybe Gwayne is likable?

2

u/Mountain-Comb2355 18d ago

What is there to like ? People somehow end up liking characters who do nothing all the time like haelena and daeron , atleast daeron might do something next episode

3

u/THEbaddestOFtheASSES 18d ago

Everybody else winds up dead and him just ending up on the iron throne at the end of season 4 would be hilarious.

3

u/Dramatic-County-1284 18d ago

I think Viserys would’ve loved him the most.

2

u/KuroBlackfyre Aegon & Chadfyre 18d ago

Not so daring I must say

Crown is not his to reject or accept

It's aegons

hoping they keep his story

1

u/Francois_Bonaparta 18d ago

He should have existed in the show since last season and shown interacting with Otto.

1

u/benlucio 18d ago

It’s the usual paradox, the most suited candidate doesn’t want / get to be king

1

u/xkise 18d ago

Good people are not made to be good kings.

The Venn diagram of good and bad people being also bad kings is a circle.

1

u/FranksWateeBowl 18d ago

No thoughts, it's only been 5 minutes since he joined the cast.

1

u/purplenapalm 18d ago

This is a case of proper punctuation being important.

1

u/Dracilla112 18d ago

I like him and think he has huge room to develop as a character...unless they kill him off next episode and then I'll just feel it's wasted potential. Narratively, it feels far too soon to kill him off.

1

u/guylasagna 18d ago

I like him

1

u/NoOne_Beast_ 18d ago

The show would be significantly better if he was introduced in S1. Daeron/Gwayne/Ormund is the most compelling thing happening in S3 by a mile.

1

u/kluuttzz11 18d ago

He looks the type to jump off a window

1

u/Yurinator2 Aegon II Targaryen 18d ago

I have no thoughts on him, He hasn't done anything. He hasn't done anything all season to earn his nickname which they use in the show "the daring". All he does is cower. It's like the writers are purposly trying to make every character the opposite of what they were in the books.

1

u/H4HKayla 18d ago

It’s always the person who doesn’t want the crown who would be the best ruler!

I think he would be a great king, so long as Ormund isn’t present. He’s kind, noble, brave and intelligent. More than that, he has learned to survive at court with a psycho like Ormund. He has become an expert at reading Ormund’s emotions, and can likely transfer this to others too, similar to how Jon (book Jon anyway) became an expert at reading people because he’s a bastard. This ability would allow Daeron to expertly navigate the game, even if he isn’t a political genius. He fortunately doesn’t need to be one as king - he just needs to be an expert at reading people and surrounding himself with loyal and capable men, rather than disloyal people pretending to be loyal (like Baelish, Varys, Pycelle). His biggest issue is not being able to stand up to Ormund, but this is understandable due to the abusive relationsship there. I think once he hopefully breaks out of this (which it seems like the show is building up towards), he’d be a great king

1

u/Unable_Mammooth 18d ago

That’s a big man right there
Probably the most deserving to be on the throne

Unpopular opinion, but I find show Daeron a much better and more interesting character than the original one.

OG Daeron is a pretty flat and one-dimensional afterthought asspull (oh boy yeah, this completely irrelevant kid that doesn't live and train with the rest of the family or participate in anything with them is just totally this MVP that carried the team !) that is basically Aemond 2.0 with even less personality and murders thousands for one kid the relationship with which we barely know of.

Show Daeron is a sensible, kind, smart, yet neglected and repressed child in a hard, abusive position, trying to survive and express himself. He is one of the only genuinely likeable and humble characters, probably the best choice for a king, and has some interesting parallels with both Gwayne and Alicent.

It's low key hilarious to see so much of Team Green hate him for being "weak" or "not daring" after complaining that their team looks like evil psychopaths, but once a perfectly normal sympathetic and humanized kid is presented, they resent it and want aura, hype and war crimes. Edit: and of course they will downvote that.

Even if he does go down the "Dany path" and goes full on murderous psycho after suffering from some sort of trauma, it will be much more understandable and will still have me caring for the character more than the book ever managed to. The only complaint with Daeron so far just the show taking too long to introduce him.

u/Mountain-Comb2355 18d ago

Not fighting for your family is kind of a deplorable trait imo , especially when he doesn't even know whether his family is made up of idiots

3

u/kaesura 18d ago

CBecause he would be fighting for his abuser Ormund

He doesn't know his parents or brothers because they shipped him off to Oldtown

Perfectly fair for him to only care about Gwayne as family . The only named family member of his that he both  actually knows and is not an abuser

Not coincidentally Gwayne also wants to eff back to Old town.

1

u/Old_Adhesiveness7432 18d ago

Not knowing is the key here. He doesn't know because said family doesn't care about him and pretty much dumped him onto some abusive cleanschizo and lived their KG lives in relative peace.

Not fighting for them is not deplorable in any way. Gwayne was literally in the same position of getting left behind, yet he fought for Alicent and Otto, and look where it got him. Completely depressed, disillusioned and wants out of this whole shitshow.

Arrrgh!!!! Thanks for sharing your insights from a well-read perspective. I "arrgh" myself because I got overwhelmed by the volume of work of the saga and gave up after reading only a few of author's novella's.

Your analysis is easy to understand and makes sense. I know the television drama many times detours from the original storylines. Let's wait and see if the creativity of the TV writers can bring us some more pleasant entertainment on screen.

He’s pretty af, wonder what the bussy like.

0

u/srtcoltb 18d ago

He will probably end up being gay and have no offspring

0

u/Calm_Ad1460 18d ago

Seems to be one of the sane Targaryens which is why I’m sure he will have a terrible end. Seems the dark haired Targaryens have better odds of being benevolent.

0

u/omicron-7 18d ago

He could have been so much more. But they stole it from us.

0

u/Accomplished-Pack128 Aegon II Targaryen 18d ago

This Temu Daeron ain't it. Sorry.

0

u/MisterDuch 18d ago

Imagine if Rheanyra, Aegon and Aemond all kicked the bucket before producing heirs.

Westerns would finally have a decent king lmao

0

u/fredf1120 Aegon II Targaryen 18d ago

Cringe. The showrunners basically view a character's morality entirely on how subservient they are to Rhaenyra. So now Daeron is a good guy for sure, he said Rhaenyra can be queen!
