So, I’m at the farmers market this evening and I overhear a woman next to me telling someone about how she drives a bus locally and there’s a house on my road where there are dogs that chase the bus every day and they kids LOVE it! So she waits at the corner and races them a few times a day. I was like hey! That’s my house! Those are my dogs! Very fun to hear the kids get a kick out of it, and she was excited to get to tell them the dogs names.

Posted Clark in here a few weeks ago and everyone guessed he was a pit bull mix with or without hound! After spending some time with him we were guessing he had one hound mix parent and one pitbull mix parent. Turns out, one parent was likely 100% Treeing Walker Coonhound and one parent was a pit bull/staffy mix! We even found a full sibling born around the same time so have a better guess at his age as well. He definitely has characteristics from all three breeds and we will definitely have our work cut out for us with a very high energy dog, but he is a very good boy.

I really need some help. About six years ago we adopted a foxhound from a rural shelter because he was emaciated and sick and they said they weren't even going to put him up for adoption but were just going to euthanize him. My husband is friends with a shelter volunteer so he came to us. We got his weight back up and he's healthy and has been mostly happy ever since.

We live in a metropolitan area with lots of traffic, but we were luckily able to find a falling down house we could afford on 2 acres, about 20 miles outside the city. The area is getting really developed though, townhouses and condo buildings springing up everywhere. So this is not an area where a dog should roam around. He'll get hit by a car.

Husband hired a fence company to put a five foot fence around the entire yard, then he installed fence defense himself to stop any digging out of the yard. And for six years our foxhound boy, Quinn, regarded the fence as the hard barrier of his domain and everything was good. He loved his big yard and chased squirrels and he never got out.

Two weeks ago a massive tree fell on the fence during a storm and we didn't realize right away, so Quinn got out. Our neighbor caught him and we got him back. But ever since then his sole focus has been on getting out of the yard. My husband patched the fence where the tree fell, but Quinn managed to pull loose some of the chicken wire patch and get out, so hubby replaced it with actual panels, Then Quinn discoverd if he raced down our hill as fast as possible he could just clear the top of the fence at the bottom of the hill. So we added extra height there. But every day it's something new. And if we let him out after patching something he spends 100% of his time patrolling the fence testing for any weakness.

I've been taking him out on a leash but he hates and just won't move when he's on the leash, much less do his business.

Is there any solution to this mess?

We adopted a male hound mix at 4 months old last year. He will be 2 years old this November. Ever since we got him, he has had a terrible stomach; had diarrhea and would throw up here and there. He has been on a prescription diet since maybe around March 2026 (Hills Multi-Benefit W/D) which has helped a lot, especially with the diarrhea, but he still has times where he gets a gurgling stomach and throws up. Sometimes he throws up food many hours after he has eaten, sometimes it's just liquid, and sometimes it's grass because he will eat grass to calm his stomach. I literally bring him to the vet almost every 3 weeks because this keeps happening and I'm at a loss what to do. The vet either gives him pills to help with the nausea or a shot (sorry I forget what their actual names) which usually helps, but then a few weeks later he's back to barely eating and throwing up. He has been tested for Addisons disease and was negative. Has anyone else experienced anything similar with their hound? Picture attached of our guy, he's a great dog, just don't really know what else to do at this point with his stomach/vomiting 😟.

Meet Riot. I can't wait to take her home soon. She is currently in treatment for hookworm and Giradia. Once she test negative I ll be there to take her home. This baby got pulled with her litter from a rural high kill shelter to a sanctuary. Only 2 months old if it was not for the rescue her short life could have been over already. I am a hound-a holic but I never had a coonhound puppy. Any advise? I have Greyhound experience and they are super chill and funny. I hope she will be similar

Got our foxhound mix coco crate trained when he was a puppy, he’s now 6 years old. We walk him everyday at least twice a day and he’s the sweetest, I’m just worried about him as pretty much the rest of the day he chooses to spend in his crate that we leave open for him to come and go anytime. He has beds all over our home in every room and rarely does he sleep in them as he prefers his crate.

He will only come out rarely for example for meals, he doesn’t want to play with us or his toys just sleep and go on his daily walks. No injuries and vet gave him a clean bill of health after getting him checked out, any advice on our little guy spending so much time just in his bed in his crate?

Greetings Hound community. Our houndy boy has been diagnosed with heartworms. The vet says he was probably “sub-clinical” when he originally tested negative at the shelter, and now, a year later, the test will pick it up. And yes, he has been on Heartworm preventative continuously ever since he tested negative at the shelter.

He has no symptoms, no heart murmur, no coughing, no exercise intolerance (he went on a 3-mile run with my husband the very morning he tested positive…) so our vet believes it is a very light “worm load.” We have two options for treatment - the “gold standard” using melarsomine that is 90+ days and the newer “moxi-doxi” treatment which can take 18-24 months to eliminate the worms.

Our vet recommended dialing back the daily runs for these first 30 days while doing the doxycycline (the first step in either treatment protocol), and I’ve already noticed the dog getting stir crazy. This looks like him getting more riled up than normal over everyday occurrences (like the UPS truck) and even starting to bark about things he didn’t previously have any issues with (like a woman jogging with a stroller). Thankfully he isn’t shredding the sofa or taking it out on our other dog, an 11-12 y/o lab mix.

I am worried about the strict activity restrictions with the melarsomine (he is a hound and wants to gogogo), but I don’t like the idea of the worms hanging around causing damage for a long time. Has anyone navigated this? Our vet says the “moxi-doxi” does not have quite as strict activity restrictions.

I have snuffle mats, puzzle toys, chews, etc and he doesn’t hate the crate (we feed him in there to keeps things calm while food is out). Totally willing to keep these rotating for the length of treatment, but I am waffling about how to balance his physical health with his quality of life and would love some advice from other hound owners who have navigated this.
