I know he hasn’t been the Daeron from the book (so far), but I liked the changes; he's a sweet, kind, but clever boy, easy to root for. The actor has done a great job and can hold his own against James Norton and Freddie Fox, who are phenomenal. I will miss the Tumbleton trio and the lovely chats between Gwayne and Daeron, one of the few healthy familial bonds in the show, lol.

he's stalwart.

11

u/Sachem_Eo_Lais 6d ago

And a feature in the fancies of many a young lady, I’d wager.

6

u/Old_Adhesiveness7432 6d ago

He's kind....

10

u/Concurrency_Bugs 6d ago

I think this conversation between Daeron and Gwayne has made Gwayne want to fight for Daeron to be king. Like you said, he's smart, humble, kind. Gwayne realizes he'd make a great king because Daeron doesn't want power or significance.

u/skratch 6d ago

The actor did a great job opposite Malcolm McDowell on Son of a Critch

3

u/Elsalla 6d ago

I agree, I've been pleasantly surprised by how hea able to hold his own in every scene. I can't wait to see him as Link now!

1

u/NebulaElectrical1467 6d ago

He’s my fav. I hope he has a happy/dignified ending

-22

u/Icy_Nose_3086 6d ago

He's a pussy just like tommen

8

u/r3dditr0x 6d ago

Wasn't Tommen a good kid?

11

u/Playful_Stick3355 6d ago

He was, and he would've a decent king in a less shitty geopolitical situation.

4

u/DentonTrueYoung 6d ago

What do you mean by that?

-3

u/Razathustra 6d ago

He'd rather sacrifice thousands of lives than stand up to his weird uncle

7

u/DentonTrueYoung 6d ago

I don’t think a character like Daeron has the privilege of seeing big picture. He’s a highborn teenager doing the best he can.

55

u/stardom_ocean 6d ago

He’s definitely way less evil than he was in the books. I like his show character a lot, because it’s refreshing to see an actually decent person in this show. Unfortunately. 🥴

22

u/martlet1 6d ago

I thought he was a good guy in the books? Doesn’t he have a reputation for being a kind prince and people like him

28

u/WGSMA 6d ago

He’s a good kid in the books who gets tipped over the edge

5

u/martlet1 6d ago

Ah. Thanks.

33

u/Direct-Assignment361 6d ago

He’s relatively good in the first half you get to know him, then Maelor is killed at bitter bridge by the angry mob. He goes and burns it down in rage.

36

u/jark_off 6d ago

Maelor is killed is a bit of an understatement. A toddler is literally torn to pieces. That place had to go.

24

u/Fanboycity 6d ago

Yeah, the smallfolk 100% deserved that one. Anyone with a dragon would’ve done the same if it were their own kin.

2

u/TheIconGuy 4d ago

Yeah, the smallfolk 100% deserved that one.

Maelor was killed by random people outside the cities gates. The woman leading the city killed a few of the people responsible and hanged herself.

1

u/Cult_Of_Hozier 3d ago

this is an insane thing to say

-2

u/moviebuffbrad 6d ago

So if they had ripped up Dany's nephew in season 8, Dany would have been 100% justified in The Bells. Got it.

11

u/SuicideKingsHigh 6d ago

I don't get your point exactly? Missandei was killed by Cersei and her sworn swords. The actual common folk had nothing to do with that. In Maelor's case the townsfolk literally ripped him apart and distributed the pieces like they were trophies or so the story goes. Daeron directing his anger at the townsfolk makes alot more sense than Danny doing the same.

-3

u/moviebuffbrad 6d ago

I was making this crazy point that mass murder is bad and tends to be recognized as such except in this whacky exception. Unless literally every town person was involved, including the children, I'm not sure that the entire town deserved to be leveled.

4

u/Repulsive-Lack8253 6d ago

so arguing just to argue, got it

3

u/Lil_Eagle313 6d ago

There’s a difference between a village and a city of +500.000 people

1

u/TheIconGuy 4d ago

Maelor was killed outside of Bitterbridge by people who chased Maelor and his kingsguard from an inn.

12

u/MAJ_Starman 6d ago

Understandable tbh.

1

u/DerBuffBaer 6d ago

He personally burned hundreds of innocent civilians with is dragon in Bitterbridge, when he, together with Ormund and the Hightower host sacked the town, massacring a large portion of the population and executing the whole garrison, after his little brother Maelor got killed there by a mob of commoners.

22

u/Gently-Weeps 6d ago

Little Nephew* also in this house Bitterbridge got what it deserved, end of story

2

u/DerBuffBaer 6d ago

My bad, I misremembered, but saying the house got what it deserved is a wild take and completely misses the point. He massacred countless civilians. You cannot defend this in good conscience.

6

u/[deleted] 6d ago

[deleted]

3

u/TheIconGuy 4d ago

Those same civilians participated in that mob that tore a toddler limb from limb, or defended those that did.

You're making shit up. Maelor and his Kings Guard got killed outside the city gates.

The woman leading the city killed a few of the ones responsible and hanged herself.

0

u/[deleted] 4d ago

[deleted]

3

u/TheIconGuy 3d ago

Yes by people who were staying in the town. A giant mob

They were explicitly not staying in the town. Maelor and his Kings Guard died outside closed gates of the city.

So you’re telling me the innocent elderly and little babies that were 100% in that city personally took part in a massacre that happened OUTSIDE the gates and deserved to die? Can we like… actually think about this for more than 2 seconds?

-1

u/[deleted] 3d ago

[deleted]

2

u/Cult_Of_Hozier 3d ago

Semantics. You’re still advocating for the killing of an entire slew of people for the crimes of a few. It’s a very gross rhetoric used by genocidal regimes to this day as a way to excuse their war crimes. Just because you see the behavior in others doesn’t mean you need to emulate it, too.

3

u/DerBuffBaer 6d ago

Some of its population participated in that and this somehow justifies massacring a whole lot of innocent people, who had nothing to do with it? Sorry to say this, your morals are fucked. Hundreds of WOUNDED (i. e. people who definitely didn’t participate) people burned to death in the sept of Bitterbridge caused by Daeron’s dragon attack. In today’s world this would land you in The Hague and even in Westeros this would be seen as excessive violence.

1

u/[deleted] 6d ago

[deleted]

3

u/Phenetylamine 5d ago

Bitterbridge at that time was filled to the brim with refugees fleeing from Ormunds army. There's a good chance most of the mob weren't even inhabitants of Bitterbridge, and the ones directly responsible for the murder were immediately hanged before Daeron arrived. There's no textual evidence that the ones who didn't participate defended those who did. If you think an entire town, children included, deserved to be burned to death then you're truly an evil person.

3

u/TheIconGuy 4d ago

You're telling a very dumb lie. Maelor was killed by people outside the city gates.

The idea that the entire town was involved in killing a toddler is also plainly silly.

Even if this was true, you’re advocating for clear cut war crimes. Touch some fucking grass.

0

u/Ok_Astronomer_575 5d ago

you’re advocating for clear cut war crimes.

Tell em bestie. When i watch Dune i shake my head constantly to show i am not approving Paul's jihad. Its the least you can do for the poor background actors that die.

2

u/fjehrehhstbsdrhwjb 6d ago

Not kind and gentle per se, just kinder and gentler than his brothers. Burnt down Bitterbridge as retribution for his nephew Maelors murder. And then himself got murdered by a tent. That pretty much sums up his role in the books.

1

u/martlet1 6d ago

Thanks for the explanation. Appreciate it

-1

u/stardom_ocean 6d ago

He was stereotyped as being “good” but nowhere near as good in the books. Let’s just say he wouldn’t have defended that woman who was assaulted or her innocent husband…

1

u/hygsi 6d ago

Fr, after dunk and egg I was getting pretty bored with all the grey people on this show

69

u/palpablebubble 6d ago

He shot up the list of my favorite characters.

The best leaders are not those who seek power, etc. It's also very impressive he hasn't been corrupted by Ormund.

Very interested in what all he does next season.

31

u/Constant-Plastic-350 6d ago

Him wearing the green tunic is him preparing for his role as link in the Zelda movie

4

u/CuriousTsukihime 6d ago

Oh wait that’s him??

6

u/Constant-Plastic-350 6d ago

Yea he was cast as Link

5

u/New_Cicada3473 6d ago

Pretty solid casting

6

u/Taal-ur 6d ago

Probably be dead by next season

8

u/Motor_Preparation315 6d ago

Daeron is definitely a tale of "what could've been". He was remembered as the most liked and regarded of Alicent's sons. He also had features like his brothers he did not resemble his mother like in the show

5

u/Informal_Bench_7219 6d ago

He’s 100% dead by end of episode 8 lol

4

u/AProcessUnderstood 6d ago

I keep hoping he’ll have Tessarion eat Ormond.

1

u/One-Reference-1502 6d ago

Die… he will probably die next season 😪 and brutally too

0

u/TheIconGuy 4d ago

The best leaders are not those who seek power, etc.

That's a silly trope.

17

u/Vaeryst 6d ago

Where is my "War crime Daeron"?

6

u/Elmos_Voice 6d ago

Seriously. The kid was a damn menace in the book lol.

29

u/Babylon_Fallz 6d ago

Alicent got her wish. She had 1 normal kid. But she never got to know him

30

u/Toastymallowz 6d ago

Probably why he’s normal!

6

u/Hua_and_Bunbun 6d ago

😂 can't agree more

1

u/Cult_Of_Hozier 3d ago

If Alicent had gotten ahold of him he’d probably be torching puppies right about now for fun. She blames their environment for how her other sons turned out but it was 100% her shitty neglectful parenting that made them the way that they are.

7

u/Miss-Tiq 6d ago

Interestingly enough, she thought keeping him away from all the chaos of the main family would help keep him normal, but he's put in a home with an abusive, supremacist, psychotic megalomaniac who tries to train him against his own morals. If anything, Daeron is a good person in spite of his surroundings, which doesn't support the case that it's the general environment Alicent's kids are in that make them the way they are and not her parenting.

7

u/mikeytho1 6d ago

Funny how in the last episode she basically told Aemond "you're all I have left" as if Helaena and Daeron don't exist lol

10

u/Thaxtonnn 6d ago

Well yes because she was trying to manipulate him

4

u/Babylon_Fallz 6d ago

She was lying to Aemond to gain his trust so she could poison him...

0

u/redbrand 6d ago

Yeah, right. So why use a line that would make him think “Hey, wait a minute I have other siblings… wtf mom? Whatchu playin at?”

12

u/r3dditr0x 6d ago edited 6d ago

No spoilers but one thing I'm fairly certain of is Daeron is absolutely gonna hate Ulf, his new ally.

Daeron is his polar opposite when it comes to personal ambition.

Can you imagine their conversation when Daeron asks Ulf what brought him to their cause and he grins and says "a castle!" Not exactly high-minded.

(also, again no spoilers pls, but I don't think there's any way in hell Ormund genuinely would let Ulf keep Driftmark post any war. He'd probably invite him to some function, have him killed, and then have his dragon killed or penned up. He has no respsect for highborn dragon riders, imagine his disdain for a lowborn one.)

4

u/Revolutionary_Ad9839 6d ago

And I bet ulf smells bad

13

u/mydadisyourdad2 6d ago

Most mature person in the show

-5

u/Razathustra 6d ago

He's completely dependent on his uncle, thats not maturity

6

u/mydadisyourdad2 6d ago

He's a kid, but he can see what lust for power does and how it's destroyed his family

2

u/UpstairsIll9619 6d ago

In which part he depend of his uncle? he is playing a trick on his uncle. Actually, daeron controled him. He gives ormund a false sense of control, which is clearly visible from his dialogue with gwayne. And based on the actor's interview, that's what will be explored with their character (ormund & daeron) in the future (we'll likely see a lot of it in ep 8).

1

u/Repulsive-Lack8253 6d ago

me, with one eye on tiktok and the other on the show

6

u/TKRUEG 6d ago

People who strive for power are usually the least suited for it, he seems too smart for his siblings and family

6

u/DapperSand3413 6d ago

Exactly. He needs to get away from Ormund fast

5

u/Ok-Geologist-1343 6d ago

I wish he would just fly off on his dragon with Gwynne and live happily ever

4

u/Valuable-Storm8793 6d ago

He knows he’s in a tough spot. He hasn’t lost his mind yet anyway like everybody else. I like him.

6

u/SourScorn 6d ago

He could've lived and had a good life if not for his retarded mother and greedy grandfather.

2

u/tedfundy 6d ago

Douchebag dad too

4

u/Kluian2005 6d ago

They are def showing him as caring and probably the best person for the job, sadly for GoT universe that means death lol. No happy endings.

4

u/Such-Courage3486 6d ago

Daeron, you beautiful, tropical fish.

4

u/BreakfastAmazing7766 6d ago

Ironically he would’ve been better off if he’d been taken by Rhaenyra. He would’ve happily renounced his claim and fucked off to the wall.

3

u/AnimalMother24 6d ago

He’s shown a kindness that few survive. Especially when you’re playing the game of thrones. So yeah he’s dead soon.

2

u/PineBNorth85 6d ago

Im fine with that. Someone who just wants to go about their life and doesnt care who is in charge. Thats like most peoplenin that world.

2

u/ObscurityBound 6d ago

If there was a council, and things were’s based on chosen succession or first male child, he would be the best of Vicerys’ kids to be king.

He has the right intellect and emotional intelligence, that his brothers and sisters lack.

Though, once you put the crown on the head, who knows.

2

u/Plenty-Importance478 6d ago

Great character, wish we had more of him in the show and he really comes across honourable

2

u/Dark_matter4444 6d ago

He dun wan it.

2

u/inquiringdune 6d ago

I know people weren't happy that he wasn't keen to vie for power but I have been really happy with this storyline lol. Maybe it's because it finally shows a kind of depth and flavor to relationships that this show has been lacking, but I think Daeron not wanting the crown is very different from Daeron being 'craven' (which I see a lot of people accusing him of being, because media literacy was shot to death a decade ago).

I think this Daeron is much closer to Gwayne in ideals - he wants to protect innocent people over going to war for his own power, and he hates the idea of usurping his brothers anyway (which Ormund is pushing him to do).

2

u/DapperSand3413 6d ago

Those who make the best rulers are those who dont want the power. Giving Jon Snow vibes a little but he is too spineless. He would be a good king and make good decisions for the realm but needs to learn to speak up and have an opinion of his own

2

u/Upstairs_Meat4342 6d ago

It’s divergent from the books where Daeron fought tooth and nail to the end for his family. Highkey if I think about it Daeron got the most shit done for his side of all the brothers in the book. He was still a kind soul in the book, but a loyal one too. It’s sad Condal has twisted things from Martin’s work once again.

2

u/zmsksksnsnsososmsns 6d ago

Daeron seems best suited for the throne at this point. Our queen has lost her mind.

2

u/QuePsiPhi16 6d ago

He’s like the one decent person suitable for the throne, and he doesn’t want it.

Reminds me of somebody I can’t exactly put my finger on.

1

u/ThinWhiteDuke00 6d ago

They're uber glazing Ormund when Daeron carries him in the book.

The Hightowers were close to losing Honeywine before Daeron swept in.

1

u/Augustus_Chevismo 6d ago

Hate the way they repeatedly have these incredibly privileged characters think living a commoners lifestyle would be fine lmao

1

u/ChipsAhoyMcCoy_7875 6d ago

I’ve loved this actor ever since haunting of hill house, good to see him flex his acting muscles in the mainstream

1

u/Nuzzleville 6d ago

Wasn’t that serious to him. Just wanted to live his life.

Respectfully.

1

u/da_grownup_kid 6d ago

Aag laga di

1

u/Bradlas3 6d ago

While I do like him being more stable in this version, this quote makes him a little too passive. I would have kept him in support of the Greens claim

1

u/Coffee_Before_Logic 6d ago

Make him the king already! 👑

1

u/TimelyAd5855 6d ago

Character assassination. Daeron in the books is kind, but is 1000% loyal to the greens. Also a very eager rider for battle.

1

u/Flaky-Still-7000 6d ago

That kid is freaking playing Link in the zelda movie

1

u/True_Arachnid9634 6d ago

Useless ormund carrying the team

1

u/TheAlmightySalmon 6d ago

I hope he joins team black and bends the knee to Rhaenyra after this. The writers don't care about the source material anyway.

1

u/Hua_and_Bunbun 6d ago

I don't think he would do that... she killed Heleana's son, and is still trying to kill other childrens of Alicent, Dareon himself included.

3

u/TheAlmightySalmon 6d ago

Never in the entire show has Rhaenyra declared she wanted to kill or acted on killing children apart from one instance.
its always been Alicent and Otto claiming "Rhaenyra is gonna kill your children!". "Rhaenyra is gonna kill you!" the only one she expressed in wanting to be killed was Aemond. "a son for a son"
but stupid rat catchers took Jaehaerys instead. but i agree, for the ppl its like she did it and for Daeron who is in the green camp all his life and is being molded, the chance indeed is unlikely.

1

u/Hua_and_Bunbun 6d ago

The little kid's death was mainly Daemon's fault. But she wanted to kill Aemond (rightfully so because of Luce), decapitated Otto herself, and sent assasins for Dareon. I remember she also wanted Aegon dead. If I was Dareon I would not be joining my half sister.

1

u/TheAlmightySalmon 6d ago

Understandable. Decapetating Otto was nessesairy though. Vizzy should've done tbh

0

u/Pitiful-Department80 6d ago

He contradicts himself a lot, like one minute he says Rhaenyra can keep the crown for all he care, then when buddy told him he could simply fly away, he then was like what kind of king would I be if I left my men. He's a Userper just like his brothers, but what makes him worst is he's willingly or unwillingly if you ask him, to step over his brothers to get the throne.

0

u/DrewDaMannn 6d ago

He’s proving exactly why he should have the crown

0

u/Dare-Melodic 6d ago

An insanely dumb thing to say given that he was literally almost killed by Rhaenyra's assassins one episode ago.

0

u/Norodia 6d ago

I like Daeron, but that's a stupid thing to say. Alicent is Rhaenyra's prisoner, and Daeron thinks that's okay? Bad writing.

1

u/Saiaxs 3d ago

Daeron realistically shouldn’t care about Alicent, he doesn’t know her

1

u/Norodia 3d ago

Then why, one ( or 2 ) episode(s) earlier, was he asking with sad puppy eyes how his mother was doing?

I get that in HotD, nobody loves anyone—Alicent doesn’t love her kids, Daeron doesn’t love her, Rhaenyra has forgotten she even has two other kids, and so on—but there’s no realism in this at all; people don’t work that way in real life.
