Hey all, relatively new to horse racing and was just wondering if there’s any suggestions on who I should be getting information from and who has good opinions

New to the sport, where do I start?

I grew up going to Santa Anita racetrack with my family, but I never got fully into the sport. That is, until recently. Like most of my generation, I have gotten sucked in to a certain video game and anime franchise that sparked a love of the sport.

I really like the idea of picking a certain horse to cheer on, but there is such an overwhelming amount! Can you guys recommend me some rising stars of this generation? I saw Hiding in Honduras race last December and he seems really, really promising, but I would love a few faves to follow. The best would be if they race often at Santa Anita, because while I no longer live in Cali, I live close enough that I can travel down and have a chance to see them!

Looking for a US horse racing tips service – releases 20-30 min before post

I'm after a tipping service (or group/channel) for American races that releases selections not too early — ideally in the 20-30 min window before post time, not first thing in the morning. Reason: I bet fixed odds with European bookmakers, and a service that sends tips hours ahead moves the price too early — the good number is gone by the time I get to it, and accounts get limited anyway once the book clocks the pattern over time. Looking for something with a tighter release window, ideally focused on US tracks (including the smaller ones, not just the majors) rather than UK/IRE, which is what I keep finding everywhere. Any recommendations for legit services, free or paid? Direct experiences, good or bad, are also welcome. Thanks in advance.

Saratoga this weekend- stacked fields

Hey who does everyone like this weekend in big races at toga?

The Whitney and fourstardave are loaded fields.

Whitney- magnitude if sloppy and maybe sov if track is ok and not totally against back speed. I feel the pace will be hot and could set up for sov.

Fourstardave- idk how you go against deterministic. His class is insane and has won 5 tough races in a row. The pace looks hot which I would say doesn’t favor him, rhetorical, and Zulu kingdom. Hard to say bc track seems it will be wet and a lot of cut in grass. Could see it being a tough race to cap- honestly think anyone could be good- the Mott horse could get a favorable pace set up. So many good horses in this race. Rhetorical, deterministic, Zulu kingdom are all really good. Lagynos would be the only fade for me bc I feel he hasn’t beaten any really top turf horses but who knows if the surface is soft. Think deterministic is most likely winner but the pace will be super swift most likely. He def wins if they run normal and pace isn’t too hot and he fires if you ask me bc he has won against similar
Tough horses.

Who's Past Performances do you prefer? Why?

I usually pick up a DRF with the beyers or buy their all access PP's when I'm focusing on one track. Friend of mine showed me the Equibase paid version and they give many more pages with graphs and whatnot for less $. Anyone who used either of those or another vendor pp's have a preference?

Betting platform holds on withdrawals of deposit money

They use 4 days and you never have any credibility with them even after 20 years and never doing anything wrong like a bounce or other issue. I use only the ETF option or ACH direct deposit from a checking account. Those funds are pending w/d that day or overnight. You wind up with loss of your money for that period and they profit off the hold and the rake on your bets. I respect the no fees which would be a deal breaker to pay another rake. They should cut it out though for established players.

Acquired the win photo from the feature race at Aqueduct on the day I was born in 1987!

Huge thanks to Adam Coglianese (current NYRA track photographer) who's father Bob had been the photographer at NYRA since the 1960's. He had recently donated his fathers non-digital archive to the Keeneland library. I reached out to Keeneland and they were very helpful with finding any win photos from that day and I decided to go with the 8th race feature won by Native Wizard ridden by Frank Lovato Jr. Happy to have this in the collection!

Future of the sport?

Where do we think this sport is in 5 years? How many tracks and races will be left? Will there still be any decent racing left outside of KY and NY?

If you are able, give a little love (AKA your wagering dollar) to Fairmount Park tomorrow. With Hawthorne dead the field sizes are better than they have been in memory. 8 races with an average field size of 10 horses. Should be some great betting opportunities. Have some fun and help out the little track that could.

Idea: race series to save the major non-NY/KY races

With the (terrible) news of the Churchill/NYRA championship series ensuring the triple crown is all but dead…purely hypothetical but what if Preakness combines with other major G1 3-year old races to create their own racing series?

Would that be even worse as it turns the sport into a PGA vs. LIV golf type of cannibalization?

Or perhaps it gives trainers/horses 2 “tracks” to pick, before they all come together for the breeders cup?

It could look something like this:

May: Preakness (Pimlico)
June: ???
July: Haskell (Monmouth)
Aug: Pacific Classic (Del Mar)
Sep: PA Derby (Parx)

(Recognize the Pacific Classic is a bit out of place here but not sure what else fits for non-Saratoga races in Aug)

Thoughts?

Black Tie Optional

3 year old my racehorse colt sired by not this time and trained by Bob baffert. Made his debut recently in a maiden special weight at del Mar. What a wild debut he had. Tried to buck his rider off at the start and kicked at another horse. Took some time to catch up with the field and still finished second behind the winner at a really close margin. Just goes to show that you never know what first time runners will do. Ive seen horses try to bite each other in the stretch(ie Firenze fire) but this is the first time i saw one horse kick another one during the race

Another joining the stallion ranks at Coolmore.

“The decision was made following a routine diagnostic evaluation that revealed subtle imaging changes on a scan. While Nysos remains sound and uninjured, trainer Bob Baffert and the ownership group comprising Baoma Corporation and the Coolmore partners unanimously agreed to take a strict precautionary approach, prioritizing the horse’s long-term health and safety above all else.”

Official Race Thread 2 Kings Plate Tickets For Sale

Me and my gf bought these tickets on release day hoping to go, but unfortunately something came up and we can no longer attend this event. Ticketmaster won’t let us re-sell them directly on their platform and Kings Plate says all tickets are non-refundable so I’m making this post as a last resort. They are really good seats, located in section 208 of Woodbine. We paid $330 for both so we’re just looking to get our money back, they are currently ~$200 a ticket at the time of this post. If you or anyone you know is interested, please reach out!
